A Man Apart_360P
I saw this movie this week and Vin Diesel did another great job. He is producer of this movie as well as the star. Larenz Tate did a great job as his partner and the action keeps you on the edge of your seat. The love story laid into the story will also keep women watching.
Interesting events interesting story
Good acting nice actors
I extremely enjoyed the loyalty between Sean and Demetrius.
I enjoyed the revenge were sean punched a guy to death. And also the ending were he made the gang boss feel like hes safe around his guards but the guards were on sean's side.
It's not a 10 out of 10 because I liked his relationship with his wife. But she got killed.
And the ending is satisfying he got his revenge but I wish it was an epic one.
Vin Diesel stars as Sean Vetter a DEA agent who turns vigilante after the murder of his wife in this dull actioner which features Diesel in auto-pilot mode as the action piles up. Production values aside, Diesel just isn't Charles Bronson (Although at least in his favor Diesel's no Steven Seagal either.) and once you see a Dirty Harry or Death Wish movie you've seen what this formula has to offer. And this is no exception.(Look to The Punisher or The Crow to see a vigilante actioner brought over the top well despite it's story limitations.) A Man Apart unfortunately contains no imagination and is a trite excercise in tedium.
OK, everything in this movie has been, one way or the other, seen in many movies before and after. Even the "twist" (which should not be surprising if you've watched carefully, which you won't, of course), but it's somehow relaxing and simply good made in every (technical) aspect. Casting is good (Diesel and Olyphant stand out a bit, which was also to be expected), directing, editing... Everything done with some sense of measure for a story. There's a head and the tail, and a good balance in-between (especially in the matter of black/white presenting of the characters). However, clichés could be assembled in good, bad, awful and so on kind of fashion. This time it was good and I recommend it as a relaxing 100+ minutes after a working week.
This is basically just another episode in the upward spiral of Vin Diesel's career, and it's a relatively logical choice that allows him to pander an emotional side to the beefcake posturing he's generally known for. For what that's worth, he's able to manage it well enough to broaden his appeal. But this hackneyed, cop-vendetta project is so trite that the emotional issues are as mechanical as the action sequences. There was no need for Diesel to do this one; we all know he's a built guy from the hood who cares; and most of his fans already assume he can kill a guy with his bare hands when pissed off. This is Vin in a time-killing Charlie Bronson vehicle.
Sean is a man whose life is destroyed after he captures a drug lord. So he decides to avenge the death of his wife and goes after the drug lord who he imprisoned..Only to find out it is not him...In fact another drug lord has taken over...One far more dangerous.
Okay the acting is not Oscar material, but Vin Diesel carries it off..with his larger than life, broody and moody attitude.
The action is satisfactory and after all it is an action movie... The film itself is very glossy and shows the 'Hollywood' perception of how Cartel's live their lives...Which was a disappointment.. But all in all a good action movie..
Saw this in a Sneak Preview in San Francisco tonite.
Look, I love cheesy action movies like XXX or Fast & The Furious, that deliver exactly what they promise - good stunts, white&black characters, good action, etc.
This movie attempted and failed for that. It sucked. And it made no sense. The action was weak, so the director fell back on gore. Acting was terrible.
And the final plot twist made absolutely no sense at all on any level.
Don't see this. Ever.
The plot of this movie was very weak, and I found myself bored at some parts. Also, they tried to mask over the stale and dry plot with gory battle scenes and images of people brutally tortured and murdered. They really went over the top when Sean and his friend went into the house to find the three dead men, one with his tongue pulled out through his throat, the other with his back entirely carved up, and the other....well, I didn't really know. The action sequences were well done, however. The acting was also very weak again from Vin Diesel, not being a big fan of his. Too much bloody violence. I suppose that with all the problems this film had, I shouldn't have expected much. 5 out of 10.
When you walk to a move theatre after paying $7, you expect it to be at least 'alright'. Even if your seeing 'Piglets Big Movie' you expect it to be at least worth $1 out of $7. After you see "A Man Apart", you walk out of the movie feeling like the movie itself owes you money. From start to finish Vin Diesel proves once again that his acting skills pale in comparison to Ja Rule. I wish I could have stayed home and watched the Spanish channel for 2 hours, which would have entertained me more.
If your looking for reviews of this movie to see if it's worth seeing, you'll read the same damn thing over and over about how it sucks.
Just dont see, save your money.
