4 of us went to see this film and we all loved it. Casting was spot on, soundtrack brilliant, loyal to the book and great scenes. Disagree with all the people on here saying it needs subtitles and had no plot - so all films end with all loose ends resolved? Don't think so. Use your imagination - it's clear he's survived, with his family, that's the point.

Idris came through. Yardie painted a nice picture of the struggles of Jamaica and being Jamaican in 80s London was like. I enjoyed it and would recommend.

A bit of a mess of a film, really. Doesn't really follow the plot of the book and is of limited appeal to anyone not well versed in the patois used in the film. I spent most of it wondering what the hell was going on.
For enthusiasts only.

As a fan of Idris Elba, I expected his directorial debut to be an exciting and entertaining film but the BBC Films and BFI logos at the beginning did not promise a great film, given their tendency to support politically correct and usually tedious projects. Sadly, Yardie fails to achieve the gravitas that it aspired to and is hampered by almost incomprehensible dialogue spoken in a Jamaican patois by even white Londoners. Stephen Graham does his best Gary Oldman impression of a psychotic villain and virtually every character is unpleasant and unsympathetic, leaving it difficult for the viewer to identify with or root for anyone on the screen. Hopefully, Idris's next project will be more entertaining.
