Terrible film, I mean terrible.
First of all, it's a waste of time. No one cares about LE NORD and we don't care at all. Secondly, french teachers always show us films we don't want to see, thanks a lot. And lastly, WHAT KIND OF COCKY DIRECTOR CASTS HIMSELF AS THE MAIN CHARACTER?

I may have watched this movie over 10 times. It never gets tiring.
Actors are very good and the story line if somewhat very funny.
It is about a French Post Office director being muted to Northern France.
They portray the norther side as horrible, however, soon enough he realizes the people have a great heart.
As a french speaking person, it is very funny as the North speaks with a strong accent and somewhat language variation from the rest of the country. And the misconception that outsiders of this region have makes the movie very funny. However not sure if it is as funny with the English subtitles. To my opinion, it is almost impossible to translate/transmit the funny side of the movie with the subtitles.
Good movie. Cliché yes. But funny.

Most non-French people might consider the success of the movie to be a hype, nevertheless it is a truly hilarious movie that successfully depicts the Northern countryside of France (the language, the weather especially!)
Some conceptions are wildly exaggerated. Features Kad Merad (from the comic duo Kad et Olivier)and Danny Boon.
The plot in itself is very simple: a "cadre" from the Post office who's been sent to the north as a disciplinary sanction. Viewers will soon see why this mutation is considered as such!
Will definitely buy it when it comes out on DVD.

Bienvenue chez les Ch'Tis is a French comedy film about a dishonest post office manager who is sent to the "dreaded" north of France for a job transfer. The movie focuses on stereotypes as Philippe Abrams, the main character, slowly warms up to the region and its people.
While this movie does have some chuckle worthy one-liners, there is not much else to make this movie likable. The characters are meant to be charming, but they tend to fall flat due to poor acting and a bland plot. Most of the jokes are based off the main characters being drunk, while the rest of the movie is predictable and cliché- at almost every scene, what is coming next is as clear as day. The actors didn't have good dynamics with each other, and it seemed like the romantic leads were just paired together with no thought to on-screen chemistry.
Overall, this movie is not worth watching despite its occasional amusing moment.

OK, this isn't a masterpiece but sure is a pleasant surprise and reaches something rare: it entertains the spectator during it's entire content.
There are movies that sometimes loose their balance and consequently bore the viewer making it become then a flop. However this piece of french film-making, that is to the date the most viewed movie in France, maintains a positive balance that comfortably puts a big smile on the face of those who watch it.
A Portuguese critic said that this is commercial cinema, sure, but the best of it. Good performances, funny plot filled with hilarious passages and a confident directing make this a must see french 'feel-good' gem that achieves the mission of making the client happy - 7/10.

This is one of the most stupid and lazy movies i have seen in many many years. . ! Where to begin? ?
1) the acting is very mediocre and even terribly bad at times.
2) the script is a bunch of clichés.
3) the stereotyping of the people in different regions of France is utterly ridiculous and even offending at times.
4) if you don't understand or speak the French language a lot of the (so- called or so- intended) humor will make no sense at all and that's because the humor consists mainly of word games.
I don't want to waste any more time in writing this review; but i'll give you one advice: avoid at all cost!

A year ago, exploring northern France after attending a 2CV rally, my wife and I came across the charming town of Bergues. 'Bienvenu...' had just been released and the town was swarming with tourists and advertisements for the film. A few weeks later we caught the film in England, when it played at our local 'art' cinema. The film's a delight. We've just borrowed it on DVD and it again reduced us to tears of laughter; a warm, funny film about the destruction of pomposity and prejudice and the value of that most important of human relationships, friendship. Great slapstick moments and English subtitles that reflect the word play arising from the interplay between the slushy local dialect - Ch'ti - and French. See the film, then visit the town - both are delightful.
