Cringe humour doesn't mean that the movie is bad or something. Sometimes (like it is the case with Watamote and some monty python skits) it can also mean a humour meant to make a fun of a a certain subject, whether it is the character or a television/film trope
WEIRD does it with typical clichés found in modern biopic films. And it does it so damn well. Many people (including me) find a lot of biopic films cringe and what this movie pretty much does is turning that trope into a hypebole, a caricature of sorts. I think that the fact that scriptwriters did 0 research on Al's life makes it 10 times better
I won't spoil the film, just go and watch it you won't be disappointed.

I have loved Weird Al, since I was a kid, and that love hasn't died. He has been called the "Court jester of rock 'n roll" and that title is well deserved. And this movie extends that title to film as well.
Just know that this movie is NOT a real biopic, it is a parody of biopics. A few nuggets of truth find their way into the script, but 98% of this film is made up for comedic affect.
The cast commits 110% to the absurdity and plays the comedy straight which heightens the jokes. Daniel Radcliffe embodies this fictional Al with bravado, pathos, machismo and sex appeal. Seriously.
Evan Rachel Wood commits wholeheartedly to her role as a very broad characterization of Madonna (which she knocks out of the park) making her character the quasi villain of the movie (no spoiler since Al mentioned that on a TV interview) and the rest of the cast fits perfectly into their respective roles.
And the pool party scene is a laugh riot between the cameos and the dialogue.
Eric Appel directed the film incredibly well for his first feature film from a script that both he and Al wrote.
Even if you are not a die hard Weird Al fan (like myself) but appreciate broad and silly humor (Monty Python, Zucker Brothers) you will LOVE this.
Truly a great comedy that should've had a theatrical release. Thank you Al, Eric, Roku and all involved for creating and releasing this.

Weird The Al Yankovic Story (2022) is the true cannon story of Al's life, a wild ride though the ups and downs of being almost the best accordion player of all time and the number one in a very limited catagory. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll laugh and cry and maybe hicup just a bit and then you'll feel a way you have never felt before a strange feeling, as if an existential dread was about to be revealed to you, but you found the way to seal the gate just in time with that elder sign that your estranged half uncle gave to you in the back-ally on the night of the 27th, and it was quite lucky that the camera was on because it cleared you of that murder conviction! Anyway, so its a pretty great movie I rate it 5 out of 27 twinkey weener sandwichs's.

Really? REALLY? I don't see how those two statements could possibly coexist. "I wanted Weird Al's real story." Okay, go look on Wikipedia I guess? Eh, just kidding. I can totally relate: I took my 4yr old to see Silence of the Lambs and that one didn't fit up to my totally bizarre expectations either, so I gave it a 1/10 review too (I kinda hope someone actually checks). I grew up in the 80's. I loved Weird Al. If this has been a serious movie now THAT would've been weird. I trip out we're all on the same planet with the same physics and everything sometimes. Crazy life all works out as well as it does all things considered. Enjoy.

I really wanted to enjoy this movie and even tolerated the minute Roku commercials but just got way too silly. Really felt I was wasting my time. I have my doubts about the Madonna relationship and the nonsensical Madonna kidnapping by Escobar. Too much and just not interested in all that. Fun actor cameos and supporting cast, Rainn Wilson and Julianne Nicholson. Daniel Radcliffe played a somewhat convincing Weird Al however he's much shorter than Weird Al himself. Quinta Brunson was a fun Oprah. That's really it. Somewhat disappointed and expected more. Not really much to laugh after the first half of the movie.

Daniel Radcliffe is brilliant in Weird Al Yankovic's parody of biographical films. It's a fictional account of his life. It gets absurd at times but it is supposed to be. There is a lot of fiction here. It's really a comedy.
We all know it's not real. The cameos are numerous with so many familiar faces in such small roles. Weird Al is very beloved in the entertainment industry. Everyone looked like they had a great time in filming it. Like most musical biopics, Al has an estranged relationship with his parents even after his success.
He struggles with drinking and drugs onscreen. He becomes too much of his own success. He lives in big mansion. He hits bottom too. Madonna becomes a toxic girlfriend. Of course, the fun of the movie is that it's a parody of musical biographical parodies. I love parodies and Weird Al who parodied popular songs to the absurd like "My Bologna;" Eat It;" "Like A Surgeon;" And more.

Was hoping to see the real life story of Weird Al, but this is made up rubbish! If you are gunna make a parody movie, make it about a made up character or at least don't say the description that its a biopic. Was believing it all at first, but after a while I started to question it's validity. Then it just gets ridiculous and tiresome. Cant work out what the point was in making this crap - to mislead, confuse, or just to annoy and waste people's time. I have always loved Weird Al's work and still will. I was so excited to find out about how it all started, but I just feel cheated. Couldn't see it through to the end! Why bother? Not funny!

Some funny parts but the idea wears thin after the 20 min mark. There's enough rea life truth in this movie that I'd rather have seen a REAL bio-pic WITH comedy. Hearing Al's voice out of Daniel's mouth is just weird to me. It's a so-so comedy with a very THIN premise. A one note joke - at least the cast was 'good' and there are a LOT of comedy faces in this - Toby, Thomas Lennon...etc Giving this movie a 10 is just absurd. I've been a lifelong fan of Al's too but this fandom nonsense has to stop... This movies isn't a 10 JUST BECAUSE you like Weird Al. What happened to people, where did their brains go?
