I must say that I knew nothing about this film, all I saw was a teaser trailer on a small screen. But I had a good feeling about the film, although to be honest, I expected something different.
The film is set in Norrköping, Sweden, in the 90s and follows a smart but headstrong teen girl who has lost her father. Yet, there's a possibility he's alive. Intent on finding him and uncover the truth, she visits her father's old colleagues and friends at 'UFO-Sverige,' aka UFO Sweden. Which is, by the way, a real organization founded in the 70s.
This is the kind of film that I am missing in the american cinema these days. The screenplay definitely has an american influence to it though, and by that I mean the good ol' (late) 20th century america. For the most part, the story surprised me in a positive way.
I was also positively surprised by the cinematography. Despite being a relative newcomer to feature films, Victor Danell did a splendid job as a director.
Inez Dahl Torhaug and Jesper Barkselius were both great in their roles, and the supporting cast was solid.
(I see a bright future for Victor Danell and Inez Dahl Torhaug in the film industry!)
If you want to see a fun sci-fi themed film that is easy to watch, I'd recommend this. I rate it a strong 7+/10.

Underestimated movie with good acting, excellent decoys and budget as for non-hollywood movie, strong stranger things/x-files vibe. Few x-files references could be spotted. Movie also didn't end where many movies could have ended, but story was told entirely. Movie was entertaining but also kept surprising you. There are some minor goofs and unreasonable character acting but that doesn't stop you from enjoying the movie! 90s presented quite accurately, I also live in the nordics. I truly don't know why rating average is so low, if you enjoy Stranger Things, you will also like this! High recommendation for any sci-fi fan out there!

Finally, a movie that was worth watching this year... and it didn't come out of Hollywood. The pandemic must have put a real damper on movie production the past 3 years, because I haven't been able to find a movie that I can rate over a 5 out of 10, until now. I didn't invest much hope when I first sat down to watch this sci-fi gem, but was captivated all the way through. It has a sprinkle of Spielberg, mixed with a dash of Interstellar inspiration, but I did not mind, because the storyline was fresh, the acting good, and the emotions real. It contains a mix of serious realism and good-natured humour.

The movie was entertaining but mediocre. I would have given it more stars though if the main character Denise hadn't been so extremely unlikable. She was selfish and mean. She caused a car accident and just left a woman there to die among other things. Yet everyone forgave her all the time. Is it really impossible to create a strong young female character without making her a sociopath? After the first 30 minutes me and my friends were team Gunnar and just wished Denise would fail or at least have some consequenses to her actions. It was obvious though that the movie was on her side and it was frustrating.

Crazy Pictures, the people behind The Unthinkable are back with another example of how little they actually care about the craft of fimmaking. UFO Sweden is the big budget equivalent of when those cool guys you knew in high school made action packed short films that everybody thought was awesome. In fact, that's probably how these guys started, but when they got older they never realized what actually makes a good movie. This is all about cinematography and special effects. Not once during this production did somebody care about creating believable characters, writing a good script or directing actors. Undeveloped, adolescent crap. Don't waste your time.

Wow, what else is there to say. Crazy Pictures does it again.
UFO Sweden is already a classic. It is a must-see movie masterpiece. It combines both fantasy, action and sci-fi, all in one. The cast is amazing, extra cred to Inez and her amazing performance. A rising star with a bright future a head of her.
The rest of the cast is amazing too, nothing wrong there. Matter of fact, they all make UFO Sweden the brilliant movie it actually is.
Volvo, UFO's & good actors, what else is there to ask for?
Do yourself a favour, go to the cinema and watch it. You will not regret it!
Without a doubt a 10/10.

I had no idea what i expected from this movie beforehand. But my expectations were not too high.
I don't watch a lot of Swedish movies anymore. Mostly because of the fact that, they're usually not entertaining. But I've seen some of "Crazy Pictures" earlier work and always enjoyed their humor. Which is why I gave this one a shot.
You can say a lot about this movie, that it's unrealistic, not too much character development and predictable.
But with a good soundtrack, likable/quirky characters and impressive special effects, this movie will probably win you over. It's fast paced and with comedic elements, which will keep you watching.
Honestly a good watch and a step in the right direction for Swedish cinema.

6.6 on Imdb does not make this movie justice!
This is a gem that deserves more attention, as it, contrary to many Swedish movies, has fun characters, it is well played/acted and manages to take you back to the 80ies and 90ies. Their attention to detail was great, with a lot of props and other things relating to actual 80ies and 90ies, action scenes were fantastic and special effects were tasteful and very well made.
I was very surprised how well the action scenes were made, with intense car chases and hard-to-make fast scenes - super cool to see in a budget Swedish movie.
It made me laugh and wanna see more!

Do you want to see Interstellar, Stranger Things, with characters thought to be funny - but lesser developed than in the Police Academy? Then this is your movie.
A review by a swede, watched in the original language
They say imitation is the highest form of flattery - but this is at times just theft.
Now, I don't want to cut it down by the ankles straight up. There are good things worthy to be mentioned first. I do want to applaud the production company's, Crazy Pictures, wants to do something different here - in this country that otherwise doesn't want to stick out it's neck. UFO:s in Sweden is a nice idea for a movie, there are good actors in it (though highly flawed due to the lacking script), and the imagery is actually really nice at times. Soo nice that it actually triumphs the movie entirely - which is a bad thing. Music is at times nice too, although both of these things seems to lean heavily on, or to be near upright stolen (!) from Stranger Things, Interstellar and Hans Zimmer himself.
There are American ambitions with this movie. Intensity, quirky characters, action, but it all falls flat (besides it's copyright/originality issues) with the fact that borrowed parts of imagery, music, nice footage, doesn't make for a movie. There is a need for direction! (-Which by the way, why was there no director attached to this movie's end credits?) There's also a need for a script, plot, character development and developed characters to begin with. The basics. - You know, the flower in a cake.
Instead, Crazy Pictures seem to have aimed for the icing of the cake: the sugar, the decoration and the food colouring - making this look good, but have no real substance. Not until it's last 20-30 minutes or so does it get interesting and with some actual thought as to how it's all tied together (which is rather interesting and nicely done, I must say!). However, this one original idea that actually holds up needed to woven in much earlier. Instead of watching them write down forms - which is ludicrously boring even for a swede (!) - they could have opted to explore this precise core of the movie much earlier, instead of waiting with it until it's end.
With this said, it do lends up for a sequel. It has the potential to be developed further. But then it actually has to be Developed further. I'm not sure if this was their plans, but I hope they do take all the lessons they can from basic movie making, and implement it into their further works.
Because then, it could actually be rather good.
