I used to be a very easy grader, till I've seen too many Horror films that simply didn't do the genre justice. So I've found myself rating many films 4 - 6, and too many times unimpressed. In this case, however, I must say I think this film is a little underrated... The beginning and build up were absolutely fantastic in my book. It's become rare to find this kind of original screen writing, and being the Horror freak that I am I've seen many many horror films. The idea of a killer walling-in his victims? Simply awesome! As the film continued, however, I've found too many aspects resembling Toolbox Murders, although they all changed and became their own ideas towards the ending. Same goes for the twists - I always like playing the guessing game in these kinds of Horror-Thrillers, and I love it when all my guesses are wrong! I've actually seen many complaints and critics talking about plot-holes and bad screen writing, and I must say I simply don't understand why... have I missed something? There are many aspects on which the film could have improved, but plot-holes? The acting and cinematography have also been just right if you ask me. As for the ending - a little anticlimactic, but that's the main problem in most Horror films of the pas decade or so. Also, the build up is better than the ongoing film, so the great potential could've been lived up to better. Also - the things that bothered me the most - the homage to the Freddie Kruger "One, two..." song. Out of context, out of its league, and simply wrong! All in all - I liked this film a lot more than Toolbox Murders, and I think it's definitely worth watching. It might not be a masterpiece or one of the best ones, but very few are. In general - never trust the critics, or the reviewers. Always watch and judge for yourself!

***MAJOR SPOILERS*** Right from the very start, as soon as I laid eyes on it, all I wanted to see in the movie "Walled In" was that ugly and depressing looking Malesrazza Buliding blown to bits! Which is exactly what young and pretty building demolition expert Sam Walczak, Mischa Barton, was planning to do. Instead I got this crazy serial murder mystery involving the building's deranged architect Joe Malestrazza, Pascal Greggory, who's been on the lamb from the police since it was discovered in his monstrosity, the Malestrazza Building, some 16 tenants who were entombed by him , obviously for being late in paying their rent, in its walls. One of Joe's victims also happened to be the building's caretaker the creepy looking Mary's, Deborah Kara Unger, husband. The spaced-out looking Mary together with her even creeper looking 15 year old son Jimmy, Cameron Bright, have been living in the building since Joe, with the police hot on his tail, checked out. Sam showing up at the building to get everything ready to blow it sky high finds that not only Mary and Jimmy live in it but also disabled army veteran Burnett, played by former Tronto Argonaut offensive lineman Eugene Clark, and the somewhat senile Denise, Jane Hedlyon, as well! Jimmy who's sick and tired of taking orders from his overbearing mom Mary tries to hook up, even though she old enough to be his big sister, Sam and finally leave the place and start a life of his own. ****SPOILERS*** It's then that we, and Sam, get the surprise of our lives in finding out that the elusive Joe Malestrazza has been living in the building the entire time he was supposed to be on the run from the law! Joe's been kept under lock and key,in the buildings top floor, by Mary herself as punishment for not only doing in some 15 or so former tenant but her husband-and Jimmy's father-as well! The rest the movie centers around poor Sam, who ends up being locked up together with the mad as a hatter Joe Malesrazza, having to put up with Joe's craziness that almost drives her to the brink of madness! Joe seems to want to be done in for all the hurt he's done over the years, like having his god-awful Malesrazza Buliding built, and wants, for reasons he only knows, Sam to be the person to do him in! This all would have been good and well if Sam, by knocking off two monstrosities with one blast of explosives, would have finished off Joe together with his unsightly, that looked like a modern version of Hitler's Bunker, Malestrazza Building! It's just too bad that the movie, due to its lack of imagination and sense of justice, didn't end the way we expected, and hoped, it would! With a great big Bang!

This movie showed a lot of potential, with a compelling premise. It features an imposing edifice, which is beautiful, simple, stark, magnificent, puzzling, and foreboding. And, what turns out to be a mad genius architect. What could go wrong? From a time perspective, nothing meshes. The mother was pregnant when the murders were committed. Then, we learn that the murderer has been imprisoned for 11 years, when the police arrived. However, the boy, is now a teenager. He has the dog (his best friend)of one of the victims. How old is that dog? Not only that; but, this victim's family's apartment is undisturbed all this time? It just didn't make sense. Add to that the rush to resolve everything; and, the ending just collapses on itself. Unlike the building.

I saw The film Walled In last night, and thought that i was a good horror film. It is about a young engineer Samantha Walczak, who on the day of her birthday she is assigned by her father to do a structural analysis of an eight-floor building. One hundred and twenty units are located in the middle of nowhere and they require demolition. Sam finds four tenants, having received the eviction notice, but are still living in the building, the caretaker Mary and her teenage son Jimmy, Burnett and lady Denise. Mary lets Sam stay in apartment 208. The room is already furnished as the former people who lived there have never collected their furniture. Jimmy becomes friends with Sam and advises certain "rules" to be done. Sam is haunted during the nights by ghostly noises and discovers that the building has dreadful secrets. She investigates further and finds that the architect, Joseph Malestrazza, built the place following the work of the Egyptian pyramids. Twelve years ago, one worker walled people in, including Mary's beloved husband, entombing the victims in cement. I thought that the ending could have been a bit better but is was a good film.

The talented and beautiful Mischa Barton is a good actress well above the usual CW standard. She deserves to make it big on the silver screen. However she seems to be doing a lot of bad b movies recently especially badly written horror movies. This movie was interminable, unpleasant, not very scary and overall a waste of time. Set in a gloomy building set for demolition, Mischa plays a demolition expert sent to assess the building and she encounters an even gloomier cast of characters there. The pace is glacial and the situations are just boring. Cameron Bright of the Twilight sequels isn't quite enough to carry the movie as supporting cast either. Unfortunately even as a fan of Mischa, it was a struggle to finish this boring dud.
