I do not agree with the Imdb people on giving a 5 out of ten for this beautiful movie of romance. One of the best in 2003. Actually I do not like soap operas & avarage romantic comedies, but this one stunned me. Both the movie, the soundtrack is soft and fun. Gwyneth Paltrow is successful and on her good days again. I've watched the movie twice in DVD and though I don't like Mike Myers a lot ( he's been in some silly comedies for sure. ) he is also very good in the movie. He's found his way out. I advise this movie to everyone who likes romance. 7 out of 10.

It seems that too many people watch this movie with wrong expectations: first of all, it is supposed to be a mindless, silly comedy, and in that sense it does not fail. The very beginning of the film shows it clearly, so adjust your expectations accordingly, you Ms. Paltrow included :) I mean, there is Mike Myers in a role of an absolute idiotic instructor teaching flight attendants how to pronounce "assess" so it does not sound like "asses", and Gwyneth Paltrow in a role that takes full advantage of her good looks and portrays her as an unambitious (dumb?) blonde (in the first third of the film)... so if you are expecting some Kurosawa, or Bergman type depth, you are being delusional.
View from the top does have some shortcomings: first of all, it was being made just as 9/11 happened, and from what I gather, that influenced the story, editing and release quite a bit. Then, there is the strange cameo by Rob Lowe, which leaves an impression that it was meant to be more than just a cameo... but it ended up being a loose end. And there is a strangely inconsistent accent by Gwyneth Paltrow who usually gets it right ("Sliding Doors" comes to mind), so that leads me to believe that there was some serious amount of re-shooting which made for those inconsistencies...
Even with all that, the film comes loaded with good laughs, my favorite being scenes with Mike Myers who just nailed his role (but I understand that "haters gonna hate"), and even Gwyneth's reactions to his lunacy are priceless.
So, if you are expecting a terrific plot that would make Hitchcock jealous, move on, this is not that type of film. But if you are in for some guilty pleasure of silly laughs with some seriously good acting by the main actors (Gwyneth Paltrow, Mike Myers and Christina Applegate were all great), then you have come to the right place.
This film is really not as bad as people are making it to be. There is nothing wrong with using actresses good looks to make a funny film especially when the film has no pretenses at being another "Seventh Seal". If anything, we need more joy and fun in this world, and this film provides plenty of that.
p.s. Watch this film carefully, there are plenty of jokes that would be easy to miss if you are too busy eating popcorn.
p.p.s. BTW, Christina Applegate just proved again what a terrific actress she is! Wow!

How to make a movie about nothing...well, if you want to see how it's possible then you have to see View from the top. A very weak script and no humor. I went to see it because I thought it will make me lough, but no, it did the opisite thing...I went out of the cinema wondering, why is it on the big screen?!?!?! Paltrow and Myers couldn't save it also.

I usually like Mike Meyers and have enjoyed his Austin Power movies. I knew this was supposed to be a silly comedy so I did not expect real 'value' by the movie experience other than entertainment. I was thoroughly disappointed. I don't remember laughing once. I was annoyed at the stupidity. The acting was over the top. Gwyneth does not have acting skills - I still wonder how she got that Oscar! Don't waste your money on this one.

A warm hearted small town girl played by Paltrow is a wannabe stewardess.Paltrow's character (if you could call it such) struggles to get to the top in the fast paced world of stewardess school.Oh my,what excitement.Mixed in but utterly insignificant is a love interest (Mark Ruffalo), comic relief provided by Mike Myers (a.k.a. Austin Powers), a jealous friend (Christina Applegate), & Candice Bergen as Paltrows mentor.
This movie is filled with cheap cliches that encompass all other cheap cliched movies.Don't waste your time unless you want to see a short cat fight between Paltrow & Applegate (sorry boys,no clothes ripped off or sweats broken).
Stewardess School from 1986 had more entertainment value then this crap,at least I could mock that movie. This movie was sad for the wasted talent it used.

I think we are not stupid enough to confuse a movie with real life. If we didn't mind watching airplane crashes, terrorists, bombs, war, death and violence before all the tragedy that has currently happened then we should be able to take it now. Movies have been hacked (as this one and its best scenes tacked haplessly on at the end), re-arranged script, even canceled due to what they think the public can or can't handle after 9/11 or during the war... I would personally rather see a great movie than an obvious cop-out. For example "The Core" and "Phone Booth" are not getting enough advertisement because of everything that has happened.
"View from the Top" could have been good. It was just ok merging on not good. The funniest scene is when (always reliable) Christina Applegate goes bitch on Paltrow. Applegate is a very under-estimated actress, I can't wait to see her gain the success she has deserved for years. There should have been more funny moments than just the obvious airline jokes. The plot was extremely messed up, it felt like the movie went on and on trying to find more story line because it ran out of fuel. And Paltrow's boyfriend had no reason not to go with her to NY and that was totally unbelievable.
Mike Myers was also jarred a with blah role. He seemed forced and not let free to do what he wanted with his character. He was best in "54" (an Oscar snub of Best Supporting Actor if there ever has been one) and "So I Married An Ax Murderer". And what the hell is Stacey Dash doing thrown in a mute role like that after all the talk she got in "Clueless". WHY ARE PEOPLE BEING GIVEN THE MONEY TO MAKE THESE MOVIES FILLED WITH GREAT ACTORS AND A POSSIBLE GOOD SCRIPT ONLY TO TOTALLY SCREW IT UP?!?!
I was so eager to watch this movie because it seemed like it would be sweet and it seemed actually different because it was about flight attendants. There should have been alot more about the attendants being trained. A scene where the plane-simulator goes haywire would have been hilarious like throwing everyone around and no one knowing what to do. Also a pervert on one of the flights would have been funny... sex in the bathroom? What about a fat woman wanting more peanuts and going wild? My god I could come up with dumb-funny bits right off the top of my head!
Its ok producers.. scoop this one back up and fix it. We will let you... we're not scared to watch it again.

in most movies, the girl wants to be famous in Hollywood and making millions. in this she just wants to be a flight attendant. its nice to see that and thats why i liked the movie so much. Gwyneth Paltrow was so good in this movie and had a great innocent charm to her. she just wanted to get out of her small dumpy town. the supporting cast was good as well, especially kelly preston who tells Gwyneths character about the top flight attendant company or whatever. Christina applegate, candice bergin and mark ruffolo are good as well and a great cameo from rob lowe. my only small problem with this movie was mike myers. he was funny as first then the whole eye joke got over the top and kinda stupid but none the less he was funny for a minute or so. view from the top is typical and u know whats gonna happen at the end, sort of. you know that shes gonna be happy in the end with her man but in this movie, the heroine's big dreams are simple and thats why i loved this movie so much.

It's not too often that a movie comes along that is so bad it makes me angry... but this is one.
I kept waiting for a laugh that never came, and was further insulted by the non-committal soundtrack. Was it supposed to insinuate girl-power? Maybe if you like country/rock uplifting go-girl artists... maybe its just me.
Mike Myers absolutely stole the few scenes he did appear in, but wasn't enough to make this movie bearable. And although it was painted a la Down With Love, it did nothing to uphold the style statement it seemed to be trying to make.
ooooh pink and blue! It stunk.
