This movie doesn't leave you with any shred of satisfaction. This is a 2 hour long movie and apart from the last ten seconds it's all about how culprit with the smirk is set loose repeatedly despite innocent people keep getting brutally maimed, raped and mangled.
The most surprising aspect is the writer/director of the movie Park Jung, the same person that wrote the story/screenplay for "new world". Gory movies are perfectly fine as long as they are done right, "No Mercy" for example, leaves audience with satisfaction, "the outlaws" even though less gruesome,is still fine. But in this case there's no penance, infact it's everything opposite of revenge, to the point it becomes comical. They catch the perpetrator, then are forced to let him go, the catch again and again has to let him go, this time he puts the first protagonist to coma, and then caught again and this time puts the second protagonist to eternal coma, keeps killing/raping for 2 years.

South Korean movie industry produces one of the finest movies, especially action thrillers and this one is no exception. Even though a one time watch, offers one of the best action scenes, screenplay, direction, dialogues. Nail biting thriller you are looking for. Highly Engaging and serves the purpose that is entertainment.

I went into this movie having absolutely no expectations and yet I still came out disappointed. Despite the efforts of a star-studded cast, including the international star Peter Stormare, this was an utter waste of a movie. The only engaging character was Chae Yi-Do, all others were so stiffly written they could have been played by extras instead of so many well known actors of Korea. The plot was a total mess, carried by one gory scene to the next with very little connecting them other than a "super evil" serial killer. Lee Jong-Suk is convincingly evil, but because he was given very little to work with he just feels like a caricature of what a serial killer should be.
This movie might have worked with a script overhaul, perhaps with Detective Chae suspecting Kim Gwang-Il, chasing him for a bit with Jong-Suk playing the good boy, and then finally dropping the pretense at the end? I feel that would have been more engaging at least!
Overall I wish I hadn't wasted my time, as a huge fan of Lee Jong-Suk I was both disturbed and let down. The overall rating for this movie is much too generous.
