A weekend getaway takes a dangerous turn when a mysterious nightclub owner known only as 'The Man' introduces a group of friends to a new designer drug.
Stripped of their inhibitions, they start living out their wildest fantasies.
but what starts out as a night of partying quickly turns deadly, as the island paradise turns into a psychedelic nightmare.
Brosnan more or less plays a human version of the snake in the garden of Eden, warning the users to use the titular drug only once. But like Adam and Eve, they choose to ignore his warnings and take the designer drug as many times as they can.
Which turns Urge very urgent for them. Every time the group take more of the drug, we, the audience experience subliminal flashes that may or may not have connotations to the films meaning.
Many have dismissed the film as nothing more than a wannabe cult movie in the making, but there is so much more when you think outside of the box. Why are they there, why does Brosnan supply a drug that can only be used once, but then again, does he have some ulterior motive, using reverse psychology, knowing that they won't heed to his warning?
The cast are nothing special, but they are fine in what they are doing, waking up in strange places wondering how they got there and losing their inhibitions over and over, and a little more severe each time.
But the film has a penchant for using psychedelia to get it's message across. The colours are vibrant and vivid, which makes the character of The Man even more mysterious as he is all in white. Is he the puppet master of the subconscious? The Willy Wonka of the sublime?
The more I think of the film, the more and more I want to see it again and again, to try and get more from it's obscure narrative.
And the fact that it has one of the most out there post credit sequences I've seen in a long time, makes the film more of a curio- so piece.
Destined to have a solid fan base in years to come.

"This weekend's gonna be epic."
How the hell did the makers of "Urge" convince Pierce Brosnan to join them? Pierce Brosnan, better known as the legendary 007 and his participation in light humorous romantic comedies. And sometimes he even tries to showcase his musical talent, as in "Mamma Mia!" for example. But I've never seen this top gentleman as devilish and evil as here. The acting of Brosnan is also the only positive part in this movie. And also the only thing that fascinated me.
Neil (Danny Masterson) is a young, wealthy entrepreneur, who's used to a life where he gets everything. An arrogant guy whose group of friends probably consists of artificial friendships that live off his amassed fortune. One day he and his so-called friends Vick (Chris Geere), Danny (Nick Thune), Joey (Alexis Knapp) and Denise (Bar Paly) go to an island to enjoy a great weekend together in his ultra- modern villa. This could well be an epic weekend. That's what he promised his secretary and semi-lover Theresa (Ashley Greene). However, there are two surprises awaiting them. The first in the form of Jason (Justin Chatwin), the uninvited would-be artist and infant terrible, but yet Neil's bosom friend. And the second surprise is the drug "Urge" which is presented to them in the exclusive nightclub Volcano.
Clearly it's not a typical night club. There are eyes projected at the wall and randomly they choose someone to grant him exclusive access to the club. Once inside they are welcomed by a kind of Oompa Loompa person. And the audience seems to be under the influence of some chemical drug. The moment Jason meets the charismatic and Delmore Schwartz citing owner, who's known as "The Man", he's offered an exceptional brand new drug. A unique experience will await him and his friends. Provided they only use it once. Too bad for Jason. Seems like it has no effect on him.
It will come as no surprise that this gang of idiots will break the golden rule. The result is complete hysteria with everyone's deepest desires and bizarre fantasies taking an unrestrained form. With all its consequences. An outbreak of violence and sadistic savagery is the result. A kind of "Clockwork Orange" frenzy. And this hysteria takes over the entire island. It seems as if the entire population has consumed a bit to much "Urge" and forgot about that important rule.
Afterwards I was wondering what the ultimate message was behind this story. What was it the creators wanted to show? The decay of our society? The danger of hallucinogens and other chemical mess? Or were they trying to prove that each individual has a dark side? Actually, I expected a kind of sado masochistic story after seeing those ladies with delicious curves and dressed in red latex in the beginning of the movie. Ultimately, "Urge" is like a space cake without space. Or a mushroom that should give you hallucinations, but turns out to be an innocent champignon. Nothing mind-blowing or exciting. Afterwards you'll get a sort of Machiavellian interpretation, but the meaningless and disappointing ending spoiled it somewhat. It would have been sublime if a package of "Urge" was being delivered with this film. Just to keep an open mind, while watching this rather disappointing film.

When the trailer first came out I was thrilled, like expectations through the roof... The flick came out and so did the bad reviews... Still, I decided to take a shot... Maybe the "Urge" would kick for me like it didn't for anyone else... (awful joke! Mea culpa maxima!)
Please, allow me to be gentle... Lets begin then... Great premise, not that much original, but if drugs are involved, also am I, in the best of times... The first act was fine or even very fine... The second one was interesting, kind of thrilling... The final act made the movie a zombie flick and sucked!
There wasn't a development of the characters, but I don't feel like that was important... In my POV, they were just that kind of people that you know and you meet casually in a party... You may hang out with them for a while or even all the night, but you wouldn't remember their names if your life depended on it! It feels like, although, that many characters background and "important inter-character moments" were lost in the editing room. For example, the graffiti... Neil died thinking that Jason did it... And it was a big deal, worthy a toast with a 62 years and $100k whisky. And just like that, it didn't matter... That kind of stuff happens when you work a script in eight hands... Or it didn't got into the final cut...
Talking cuts... Way too many cuts... Way too many unnecessary cuts... For example, the "cake-*" scene (I don't believe I wrote that, meaning to write that!)... I was OK with the back and forth cross-cutting... I wasn't OK with the number of inserts in the master shot, that didn't even changed the angle of the shooting. Made it looks like they were trying to put together the best bits of performance of their many takes. It was Kaufman's directional debut, but that was just messed up.
Good parts... It had many good parts... The dialogue, I loved the dialogue! Simple and believable in casual moments, clever in its jokes, and interesting in its philosophy. Actingwise, Nick Thune was the best hands down! His character going crazy is mesmerizing. But the movie is made of good moments. Like at the entrance of the Volcano, with the eyes in the wall, how cool was that?... Or the beginning of the party... Or Theresa going kinda dominatrix on Neil... Or the cake- * (I still can't believe!)... Put it all together it doesn't sounds like much, but those moments, and others, are quite awesome by themselves.
007wise... I liked the Man... Pierce was good, not as much as Thune, but still good... But they screwed him in the last scene... A villain without a goal can do anything, is f*ckin' unpredictable, interesting... In the other hand, a villain that aims for the Apocalypse is boring, and can go just as far as the end of the world... And in the movies, the end of the world never is a end of the world... BUT HE GOT SOME GOOD LINES IN THE TWO FIRST SCENES HE WAS IN!
Bottom line... The first two acts are quite decent, just a couple problems with the writing and some execution issues... The third act is where things go sideways and the movie losses in it self... And the end credit scene is so generic that could be of any zombie flick ever made. WOULD FIT ANY ZOMBIE MOVIE, MORE THAN DID TO URGE!
Give it a try... Won't hurt... You may even have a good time... In the end you will at least know what not to do when making a movie...

This review might contain a mild spoiler. Read it at your own risk. It's a decent thriller. Not that terrifying, yet not boring enough to make me fall asleep. The acting is quite natural if you ask me. The plot is rather predictable. The gore is plenty, yet not hardcore. The sex scenes are what I can only describe as striptease only. Zero excitement on this part. The only downside that I felt is the lack of explanation of who Pierce Brosnan's character was supposed to be. God or the Devil? I mean I get that this movie is about the 7 deadly sins and how they can bring humans to their grave end. But if he (Pierce) was meant to play God, then this movie is one hell of a sick and twisted interpretation of God. I can only make assumptions of my own. I think I'll go with him as the Devil.

I am a huge horror enthusiast and was excited about this release when I heard about it. Urge (2016) is about an obnoxious capitalist that goes to some weird island with his spoiled friends and unlikely girlfriend/secretary to drink expensive champagne and fool around. Instead they find a sinister night club where they are given a new drug that takes away their inhibitions. This premise sounds interesting because the drug, contrary to alcohol, doesn't turn people into drooling idiots at the same time...
Alas, this is an amateurish project that looks, sounds and feels like something out of a lower grade film school. This project would not have passed the final exam. I feel sorry for the director and people involved – especially Pierce Brosnan who is obviously desperate for work now. It is a dreadfully made movie that just oozes of cheapness and bad writing and acting. None of the characters seem real or even possible to accept as characters. It is all so unrealistic and trivial at the same time. The title role should say it all: Danny Masterson! And consider the fact that the club was supposed to seem cool, when it just seemed like a sleazy * club. The whole thing is so misdirected and lame that I couldn't even finish it. And I have finished some awful movies in my time, believe me. I have even seen all three Human Centipede movies from back to back, for example. So what does that say about this one? I am sad to say this: I give it one stars out of ten possible.

Not going to say much more about this movie which hasn't been said yet.
Only this!
It has an easter-egg at the end and even that part they where able to run into the ground.
Wish there was an undo button so I could wipe this movie from my mind.
The worst thing of it all is that IMDb forces me to write 10 lines about this movie.
It's not worth that amount of lines.
It's a waste of the carbon emission of the energy spent to write these extra lines
The worst part were the bed scenes. And also the swimming pool scene was horrible.
And come on smoking getting out of nostrils after snoring the drug was infantile.
This was more then enough comment! Run while you can.

Without a doubt the worst film I have seen this year so far. It is almost worth watching for 2 reasons :
1) Just to have something to compare other awful films to. 2) To see how low one-time A-listers will stoop to get a pay cheque.
Awful.
If you have to make a choice involving this film or literally any other film ever made, choose the other film. Even if it stars Nicolas Cage post 2012.
If this had been better I would have turned it off after half an hour, but through sheer morbid curiosity I watched it until the mental, deranged, senseless, rubbish ending.
Don't say I didn't want you.

I'm not sure why I even gave it the score of 2. Perhaps because I've seen worse. So, this is not the worst, but goes in the categories: "waste of time", "should have never been made", "why and which audience was it made for" and alike. The story could have been intriguing and interesting, but the director got very lost in telling it. It's your typical: friends getting together desperate to have the best time of their lives and guess what? Something goes wrong. Just like the summary says, but fails to evoke the plot holes, unfinished scenes, no explanations, no consistency. Oh, it's a mess. You expect orgy, but nothing is shown. And in my opinion, Ashley Greene stands out as doing the worst job in acting. Actually, when it starts, it looks like the beginning of a * movie. Acting and script are that bad. I really wanted to see what will happen, but as it became more and more predictable, I just wanted it to end. And boy, what an end??!! There's nothing to enjoy: acting, script, dialogues, story, direction,... I guess you have to see it to believe it.

Although almost turned off by negative reviews at first, I am glad I stuck through with this one. The beginning is humorous, but slowly gets darker and darker. It was interesting, had me on the edge of my seat, and seemed to provide a parallel to the realities of drug use. Character performances were for the most part skillful. Enjoyed it!
