It starts off with a combination of good setup and a suggestion for something deeper (The Furies of Greek mythology). However, the last 2/3 devolves into music video land with cool visuals, but non-existent coherence. It also abandons any semblance of the story when this happens. Did you like how Lords of Salem gave up on itself towards the "climax"? Are Steven Seagal movies too complex for you to follow? Let me state, once again, the visuals and style were cool, but could've been served by chopping up the ending with a good song. Everyone knows music videos doesn't need coherence either. Blech!

If you are looking for an art-drama- Ancient Greek horror, this is your movie! Maybe you will like it, maybe not, but still, it's original as it gets. Even if i was not a Greek, i would still like it. There is a 70's aesthetic, great cinematography, it's a stylish and "sophisticated" movie but its not pretentious or artsy in a bad way. I have watched many "style over substance" movies, this is not one of them. But if you prefer your horror movie to be more straightforward, scarier or grittier, maybe you won't like this one. First part is intense though, more "traditional horror". But the second part is something else. It gets crazy, weird, bizarre, original and creative, paranoid, like a hallucination. Josh Ruben's acting seems kinda awkward but it's exactly as the director asked from him. At least, i think so. In a way, this weird acting fits perfectly in this weird movie. Lind is great, too. I am not saying that it's a perfect movie. There is a thin line between originality and ridiculousness, and balancing in this line, is difficult. There are many people that won't like it because they will find it nonsensical, ridiculous, artsy. I can see why this is polarising. As i said, it's not an easy balance. In my opinion though, this movie succeed. And there is the most strange/unexpected ending i have watched recently, but i like it too. In any case, it is satisfying.

I had no idea of what was going on after the halfway point in this film. The first act was great. Nice premise, great acting, good environment, and setting up to be quite the thriller. The second act however goes completely off the rails. I'm not sure what they were thinking. It turns into a 1970s psychological drama and you can't determine what is real and what is not. This is one of those films I wish they had tested with audiences before completing the entire thing because I'm confident most who watched it were equally confused by the end. What was the purpose of the owl? How did these people come to life?

Thoroughly enjoyable. The set up of strange goings on outside the 'weekend retreat' mixed with the "date's" (who you know has already murdered someone) narcissistic language and behaviour was a good tension builder before the inevitable rampage of Feminist tormenting revenge psyching out upon the toxic masculine 'villain' leading to hallucinatory breakdown. With an 'acting out' at the end watched on a by a stone cold killer. An exploration of trust issues in dating, and issues of what is and isn't vulnerability taken to torturous extremes for silver screen (and/or home video entertainment) extremes. And outstanding performance from Sarah Lind, Josh Rubin and Malin Barr. Fun!

To being a really good movie. I loved the Giallo look and feel of the movie. The first act really grabs the viewer with tension and some genuinely creepy moments. Act two is where things come apart a bit. Goes into overdrive with horror art, then the wheels completely fall off with the pretty ridiculous ending. I know what they were going for, but it just didn't work. The effects range from intentional 1970's bad to pretty gruesome and bloody, for those that like that sort of thing. Good performances and again, the way it was shot, to give a 70's feel, is pretty awesome. I'm sure it's a movie that I'll revisit again in the future, and I may even add it to my home BD collection if it gets a release. Not for everyone, but I do recommend to at least give it a watch and decide for yourselves. Last thing, as another reviewer here stated about this movie and that it's what Barbarian should have been - I wholeheartedly agree.

A harder taskmaster would have spun three decent movies out of this mediocre mash up. The build up shows a neat idea: throwing a 'third (wo)man' in between the usual intimate thriller duo. The 'art horror' setting, duly minimalist, had the potential to bring out the best from this simple idea (and having found I Love Dick terribly boring, hoping all along for Kevin Bacon to be revealed a murderous psychopath, this would have indeed been *cathartic*). Unfortunately half-way through the script changes gear and attempts a hallucinatory psychological thriller. They don't have the budget nor the team to meet their own expectations, and furthermore, cannot decide between two ideas which, taken separately, were interesting enough: turning Carrington's visions into Clive Barker-style monsters, or sticking unfolding the horrific potential of classical tragedy. La mayonnaise ne prend pas. The visuals are neither mad enough to justify the bargain bin quality of their effects, nor are the actors up to the self-involved monologues flaunting cultural references (despite having performed very well in the first half). The whole thing seem rather amateurish and pretentious, and the awkward conclusion remind us that the feminist vengeance flick, however exciting it once was, is fast turning formulaic.

It started good and interesting until the paranormal stuff started happening. I just wanted to see her trying to escape this derranged serial killer, not a bunch of cliche scares and ghosts made out of blankets. I liked the art in the movie. Also contained several illogical scenes. After "part two" had to stop watching as it started to get silly. Maybe the dude was hallucinating. But i didnt want to waste any more time. The acting is alright and gory stuff looked real nasty. Maybe 5 is too generous for this movie but it at least deserves a 4 for the potential it made me feel this movie had. Or maybe i just missunderstood it.

It is how it is. Cabin in the woods. That is oc where normal serial killers have their parties, This one here is like a psycho trip, of what happens when your chosen victim gets first to you and hits you really nicely on your head. You loose part of Your Brain in the process and You are fighting against Your own Demons which make You do this horrible serial killer things in the first place, I ask myself why they require me to make such a long review. It is clear to me, that this way giving away some spoilers seems rather impossible, so I will write around until the required 20 more characters are met. NOW!
