Universal Soldier: Regeneration is a sequel to the previous Universal Soldier movies, i never saw Universal Soldier: The return, but according to some reviews, this is a HUGE improvement from the last movie. The violence is brutal and bloody, that's a good thing and it was a "surprise". The cinematography and the direction of John Hyams is superb (his father, Peter Hyams, directed Timecop, also starring JCVD). The tone of the movie is darker than the previous movies, also the plot is more "realistic" and "complicated". Jean Claude Van-Damme and Dolph Lundgren where better than ever and they delivered awesome fight sequences. Too bad that the main audience was too busy for get their pants wet for Terminator Salvation, this is better than any "sci-fi action" movie of the last 10 years.

Take ALL the charm out of the first movie, forget JCVD who is the only reason the first movie was so great, go stingy on the musical score to the point the movie just is sterile. Even with the bits of "much needed" Russian or whatever language dialogue it's an incredibly boring movie.

No substance, predictable, and poor acting. It's just another Van Damme flick. I guess if you're 16 you might enjoy it but at any other age you might want to be entertained with substance and a plot that stimulates the imagination. It seems a waste of film and resources to me to make this type of movie. Perhaps if he took some time off from the Gym and took some acting classes he might have a chance to make a film that may be remembered instead of filed away in the teen B flick martial arts section. Why cant he do a movie with substance like the Professional with Jean Reno? Is it because his only talents are looks and a kick? and even his looks are fading fast.

I'm very surprised about the other comments here - maybe I was watching a different version or I don't know, but this movie is very poor and way below Van Damme's average. Plot sucks (very week, probably was created in a 5 minute brainstorm meeting, like: 'shall we try to squeeze out a little extra by making the third part?' - 'Yeah, sure, just make sure budget doesn't go over 1 million USD' - 'okay'), acting is awful if there's any (random people from the street could have been better), no special effect...but the worst of all: no more good fight scenes, no more Van Damme moves. He is old, that's the fact and shouldn't have gone for this movie... If you wanna go for a watchable movie with ex-action stars, should rather watch Rocky 6.

I didn't care for this at all really. SAw positive reviews so was expecting to be better then the 2nd movie but it wasn't. I'll still try the fourth but I'm not overly optimistic about it.

Sorry for bringing that, but the film is overrated. 7.8 for this "downmarket film" , you got to be kidding me . The film starts , and big surprise , I hear some Bulgarian ( I am Bulgarian ) . My first thought : another stupid American film Made in cheap Bulgarian environment . The plot is quite stupid and banal ( I am measuring my words ) ,the acting is mediocre , the cast is OK . This is a low-budget film ,decor is from the Flinstone era. It is not worth seeing .Do not waste your time . Do not get impressed by the cast, JCVD and Lundgren . One of the dumbest films I've seen this year . How come JCVD and Lundgred agreed to play in this "joke" ? They should change agents , especially JCVD .

One reviewer liked this movie. (I think he gave it eight stars!) But he said there was nothing funny about it. He is wrong. The terrorist leader pointing next to the WWII poster of Lenin; the rambling monologue by Dolph Lundgren, the Don Knots looking doctor. Even the nonstop carnage has a wry quality. This flick qualifies as a dark comedy, in a way. Especially, the macabre ending. If not, it's fun action; with kind of wacky players.

First of all: This is not a bad movie at all. But it certainly isn't great either. All the way through, I just felt that it lacked something. I'm not quite sure what it was. Maybe it was the fact that it's DTV, hence the limited budget. Maybe it was van Damme, who is way beyond his action prime, and who looked bored all the way through. Maybe it was the fact that it's the 325445325756855432th movie or so with an Eastern European backdrop simply because it's filmed there. I'm quite tired of that. On the other hand, there is a lot of action in the movie, and the scenes aren't that bad. Lundgren was a welcome addition, his part was great and he added something positive to this flick. Overall, this is another mediocre DTV actioner with some good parts.
