Even if you know nothing about tabletop games (Dungeons & Dragons, Illuminati, etc) or LARPing, you'll still love this movie. For us nerds, this movie is a multi-layered laugh out loud "thank you" card. For the casual movie-goer, it's a quirky trip through the looking glass of nerddom. The story is what truly drives this film. This movie has heart at its core, and the actors embrace the heart of the material. Everyone involved appears to have been perfectly cast. The beautiful love-interest, the jerky brother, the evil antagonist, and even the bit players with just a few lines (or none at all). Catch this movie when you can! This is the humor of Napooleon Dynamite the triumph of Little Miss Sunshine, and the heart of The Help. You have to try very hard NOT to enjoy this movie.

This is a very funny film. Don't be fooled by the title or that it was made in Utah. There's only one scene with Unicorns and Utah is only vaguely referenced. It's about Dungeons and Dragons trying to be made real only much funnier. You don't need to know anything about that either to find the humor. You just have to know nerds play this game. The centaur steals the show though. The film has heart too but every time a joke is needed there is one to be had, especially from the Centaur who's name is Rhubarb. Also I was told Uncle Rico was in it, but he unrecognizable. Believe it or not he plays the villain. A worthy effort from local film makers. Help make more movies like this get made by seeing it!

I saw a screening of this film, Unicorn City! Run, don't walk to your theater and see this film......Amazing and wonderful!!! Unicorn's are magical and so is this film! I think the DVD AND Blu-Ray are coming out soon and I suggest you buy it:) It's a lovely comedy. A cross between Napoleon Dynamite and Monty Python! Great all around! If you are a gamer or LARPer you will fall in love with this film. Even if you are not into the gaming thing you will still love this film. It's also great for the whole family. Good good good stuff! If you like a good comedy and also a love story with a sense of humor than this is the film for you.

Typically I am not a big fan of any movies that my kids like (unless it's a Pixar film). Most of the films I enjoy are not appropriate for my kids. But Unicorn City has something for EVERYONE! Funny, sentimental, crazy, sweet, and witty... This movie will put you in a better mood after you watch it than when you first sat down. I knew a little bit about LARP'ing because of family members being involved in the game MAGIC, this gave me a little better insight into that chic geek world. The great this about this film is that you don't have to be a gamer to get the little nuances and inside jokes. My kids, ages 5-11, loved the film as well and have seen it multiple times in the theater. Great, light film and good for the whole family.

My husband was out of town so I had to take my 2, 4, 8, and 10yr old with me to see this show. I was afraid that this show would be too "adult" for it to be any good to my kids but I was pleasantly surprised that my 8 & 10yr old laughing so hard to the point of tears. Of course my 2 younger ones were bored. As for me... I thought the show was hilarious. I'm not big into role play games but even I could appreciate the plot. Definitely will be getting the DVD when it comes out and making my friends and family watch this great and funny show. I recommend this show to everyone who loved shows like Hot Rod and Napolean Dynamite.

Building a Utopian society for gamers where they play their characters in real life…classic! This was a quirky movie, and given the storyline and characters it was exactly what you would have expected. The pacing was good and kept the laughs coming. It should be a gamers cult classic. Not being a gamer myself I think some of the humor went over my head, but it was still fun. I have no idea what psyonics are. I would totally let my kids watch this movie and they would probably love it. I cringed with delight as I watched the romance of the main characters. I loved the Centaur especially and at the end when he fell over I cried I was laughing so hard. Spoiler alert, I think Vos should have taken the job.

Unicorn city is a comedic tale about "gamers". I'm not usually a "laugh out loud" kind of person, but you could hear a lot of laughter coming from my seat as I watched this film. I am not a "gamer" but I was still very amused by the witty dialog and great comedic timing of this movie. You don't feel guilty or mean when you laugh at the characters. Unicorn City doesn't ridicule "gamers" but rather embraces their ridiculousness. I felt like I could relate to the characters and towards the end I wanted to join them in their "LARPing". The inviting playfulness of the film leaves you feeling good, optimistic, and rejuvenated. This film manages to handle often repeated themes like "down and out guy tries to make it in the world" and "girl nurtures an unrequited love" in a way that isn't stale and cliché but reminds us of how well these can work when done properly. Roll the dice and go see this movie which is sure to be a "Critical Hit"!

I am a gamer and so I expected to be disappointed by Unicorn City. Pleasantly, and unlike so many other films, Unicorn City is able to be humorous without becoming mocking or condescending. This alone puts it ahead of the majority of similar films. The story does start slowly with the character introductions but the humor comes before you start getting bored. Additionally Unicorn City doesn't use up all its humor at the beginning. Some of the greatest moments of the film come later on when the characters have all been introduced and the audience feels it has become part of some inside joke. The only flaw (and thus a 9 rather than 10 out of 10) is that the main character is rather unlikable throughout the vast majority of the film. This isn't a major problem though because the bad guy is more unlikable yet. Over all this is a great film with excellent writing and humor reminiscent of Napoleon Dynamite. I highly recommend seeing it.

Whether you are a game or not Unicorn City is packed with scenes we can all relate to at one level or another. Unicorn city is a comedic tale about "gamers". But even a none gamer can sit down and enjoy this movie (my wife). Unicorn City is filled with amusing and witty dialog along with great moments of comedic timing that will have you laughing in your seat. This movie allows you to embrace your inner geek as it has you laughing without guilt at the characters on screen. The great thing about Unicorn City is that it doesn't ridicule "gamers" but rather embraces their ridiculousness. Brining the movie goer to a place where they can relate to the characters in many ways. From the guy that just doesn't see whats right in front of him, to the love sick girl next door, and the ever faithful brother. Each of us can relate to this movie in some way. The inviting playfulness of the film leaves you feeling good, optimistic, and rejuvenated. Devin McGinn plays Voss, the ambitious gamer trying to find his place in the world while being plagued by the power struggle with the tyrannical guild-master, Shadow Hawk (played by a brilliant Jon Gries). Voss also has to deal with problems at home dealing with the unwanted wrath of his impatient older brother (Kevin Weiss), who bullies Voss about being jobless. After an amazing and hilarious dream sequence Voss discovers a way to both rid himself of Shadow Hawk and get his dream job with a prestigious gaming company, and Voss, along with his hilarious gamer friends, take camp in what becomes Unicorn City, "A Utopia for Gamers". Meanwhile Marsha (Jaclyn Hales) the sweet, beautiful stuck-in-the-friend-zone fellow guild-member, offers to help Voss on his quest and perhaps finally change their friendship into something more. This film handles the often repeated cinematic themes of the "down and out guy tries to make it in the world" and "girl nurtures an unrequited love" in a way that isn't old and cliché shows how well it can be done in a way that will have you wanting to go high five a gorilla!! So grab your staff, throw on your cape, and roll your twenty sided die and go see this movie which is sure to be a "Critical Hit"!
