This follow up to the first Ultimate Avengers movie benefits from not having to incorporate origin / set up material. It leaps head first into its story, albeit the story follows on from the end of the first movie. This time the key plot factor is that the Chitauri aliens from the first movie are after the vibranium deposit in Wakanda, which means we are introduced to T'Challa, as well as Captain America's old foe Kleiser, who turns out to be a Chitauri. There is as much soapy stuff about the characters' problems and interactions as there is action relating to the main plot and, to be frank, I could have done without that - I like my superheroes to be heroes. But I appreciate it for what it is. The animation is no better than Saturday morning TV animation. But it's not bad.

With ultimate Avengers 2, i can see that Marvel is moving away from just doing another animated adaptation of "The Ultimates"(an excellent graphic novel miniseries by Mark Millar) but rather, establishing the "Ultimate Avenger" universe as a separate animated universe altogether. The Black Panther is introduced here and the whole Chitauri arc from the first movie is carried on to a satisfying conclusion. Overall better than the first movie but my main beef is that IT'S TOO SHORT!!!! A few points good and bad 1) The violence. Its been taken up a notch with the movie starting off with the bloody death of the original Black Panther. Every punch, cut, and hit that the characters take are presented very intensely. Not overly violence as, say, SPAWN, but sufficiently bloody to not want to let 11 year olds and below to watch. 2) The story. Definitely better than the first since it doesn't have any prior graphic novel to live up to. the story does sufficiently well on its own, only problem is that its too short. 3) THe characters. Give and take. Some characters like Captain American, Black Panther and Bruce banner are developed very well here and you get to understand their full intentions and purpose on why they do what they do and why they are who they are. I expected more from Hank Pym(Giant Man) though, *SPOILER*seeing as how he dies at the end*SPOILER END* 4)The animation. Got better i must say. THe matte backgrounds are definitely more stunning and less "flat" compared to those in the first movie, especially the external jungle and Wakanda scenes. However, the inconsistency is still there. Great scenes like Black Panther's first battle with the Avengers + Captain America and Black Panther's final fight with Klaiser all are very detailed, very smooth animation with high frame rate and no "short cuts". However, the "big" scenes like the aliens worldwide invasion and the Wakanda alien big battle look terrible. The move to do everything in traditional 2D is a noble one in this day and age of overly used 3D animation, but a good blending of 2D and cel-shaded 3D would have been better for the big battle scenes. The animation is still not up to MOVIE standard but will suffice as a TV show. Once again, if Marvel had combined Ultimate Avengers 1 and 2 and Marketed them as, say, a 8 episode miniseries? I'm sure people wont be so quick to criticize. But alas, they marketed them as 2 movies and thus making the public expect MOVIE quality animation and story. What we have is a top-of-the-line first few episodes of a TV series, or good OVA miniseries, or sub-par movie.

'Ultimate Avengers II (2006)' doesn't stick as close to its source-material as its predecessor, instead introducing Black Panther and having much of the action take place in and around Wakanda. Its changes aren't necessarily detrimental, however, and it feels like a unique sequel to the first film. It still keeps the spirit of the comic-book intact, providing the great characterisations you'd expect from an adaptation of it. It makes a couple of risky decisions, only one of which is seemingly slightly - and only slightly - neutered to fit its 'kid-friendly' status. The flick ends up being just as enjoyable as the first, even if it is slightly sillier and isn't quite as well-rounded overall. The pacing is much better this time, though, and there's never a dull moment. The plentiful - and sometimes surprisingly brutal - action is often compounded by tangible stakes, which makes for an experience you constantly care about. It really is remarkable how character-focused the flick is, even during its brasher bits. The set-pieces can seem a little segmented at times, however. The animation is bloom-heavy and sometimes stiff, but it is more than serviceable and allows for the quieter moments to work as well as the loud ones. In the end, the movie is a breeze to watch and a blast while you do. 7/10

Being a fan of the marvel superhero cartoons of the 1960's, I enjoyed seeing Captain America, Thor, Hulk and Iron Man together in this 73 minute gem. I enjoyed the violence and action. If you enjoyed this as much as I did then check out other classic animated superhero flicks, Hulk Vs. 2009, Batman: Under the Red Hood 2010, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths 2010, The Transformers: The Movie 1986, G.I. Joe: The Movie 1987, Batman: The Killing Joke 2016, Batman: Assault on Arkham 2014, Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay 2018 and Superman/Batman: Public Enemies 2009. If only Sam Liu would direct a 2 hour R rated blood soaked epic flick featuring all animated superheroes in battle against each other to the death.

for my money, this animated movie is as good as the first Ultimate Avengers movie.the storyline is almost the same, but there is an interesting sub plot which works well and ties into the main storyline with ease.this is is just as action packed, but more intense and may not be appropriate for under 13's.this movie also has some funny moments, which i didn't notice too much in the first one.like the first one, this is a short feature,at just under 75 minutes, but again, there is a lot packed into the running time.as i mentioned earlier, this movie is as good as the original.if you liked the first Ultimate Avengers movie, you should like Ultimate Avengers 2: 7/10

The new Black Panther seeks out Captain America to avenge his father's death by an evil alien, so General Fury assembles the Avengers to come along. This was my first sighting of Thor's power of precognition and of teleportation. What happened to the extras of ULTIMATE AVENGERS I? Pop-up trivia is one thing, but no subtitles at all? Also, the Black Panther's village has an uneasy juxtaposition of low-tech and high-tech; ah the wonders of vibranium. Still, the interaction between Captain America and Giant Man is fun, as is that between Cap and Black Widow. It has a nice scene of Tony Stark among his various Iron Man armors, including War Machine. I give it a lower score because it feels more like an advertisement for the Marvel Alliance video game, for Iron Man, and for Doctor Strange than a self-contained movie.

I just finished watching the movie (for the 2nd time in a row), and I'm planning on viewing it again. Probably one of my favorite movies of all time. Now a lot of people are comparing it with the first movie, so here are my thoughts on the comparison: 1. Action - there was a lot more action in this movie, and the action was more brutal (panther tearing up that super alien was sweet). But the quality of the action scenes in the first movie were better. In this movie, we get to see a lot of little skirmishes which showcase the abilities of each character, but there was no major battle scene like the hulk rumble we had in the first movie. The battle between panther and capt. America vs kleus (i know its spelled wrong) could have been a lot better if there weren't so many cuts. You had the impression you were viewing a comic strip (but it was still sweet coz it was so brutal). Thor wasn't given enough action in this film... although they did showcase a lot more of his other talents (like teleportation). and thor did save the most number of lives (saved the whole avengers team, saved pym, saved ironman). but i was really wanting to see him kick butt. Hulk didn't do anything... just slammed an alien or two. So between the 2 movies, i loved the action of the 1st more. 2. Story - the 2nd movie definitely had more story. We are given a flash back of capt's story; then given a background on t'challa (black panther); then there's the subtle love stories of pym-wasp, capt-widow, banner-betty. And we're also given a sneak preview into the armory of tony...and of course the hints of thor's prodigality with his father. There maybe some who wouldn't appreciate this kind of plots in a comic book film, but we're forgetting that this is only 1 film in 8, and it is necessary to build up the stories of each character to establish them. So, I actually liked this 2nd movie better, just for the fact that it had a thicker plot to it and could absorb you more in its story. I was just a bit disappointed with the action though... they should have added an entire 30 mins to the film just so they could give more emphasis to the fight scenes. The capt.a-panther-kleus could have been so much better and would have been the highlight of the movie. I hope the makers of this movie could read a couple of these posts, so they could do something and make the next movie a lot longer.
