Excellent film. The main character is an interesting representation of a determined individual who doesn't stray from his mission, despite all the obstacles and interpersonal complications thrown his way. This makes UFO an encouraging movie for me.

This movie tackles a subject that is usually not taken very seriously in film. It's quite rare to make an actual movie about Aliens that is taken seriously and that the majority really want to watch. Due to the advertising push i dont see many people knowing this movie exists, so this may be no exception. This movie focuses on a somewhat young Savant (Derek Echevaro) who has a brilliant mind for mathematics. He becomes obsessed with a local UFO sighting and tries to work out whether or not the UFO was trying to communicate with people on earth. This is the first time I've seen Alex Sharp acting and I can tell he is very talented, he handled the lead in this movie very well and bolstered by strong supporting actress Ella Purnell. Overall as clever and somewhat interesting as the movie is, it is lacking in actual suspense and memorable parts to the story. Approach with caution, fans of Alex Sharp and mathematics will really enjoy this movie, but many will find it hard to stay interested. I must add, I find it a touch cliche that Gillian Anderson (of X Files) plays a significant role in this movie about contact with aliens. It lasts around 85 minutes and is worth a go if you have nothing else planned for the next hour and 25 minutes

A mathematical sci-fi about an intelligent college student who reads about a UFO incident try to use his math skills to investigate and explain the sighting. Simple as the plot sounds, the execution is quite complicated as it focusing mainly on the mathematical approach at the expense of the dramatic and the sci-fi approach. The idea is interesting yet the execution falls short relying only on the mathematical portion of the plot, I believe if UFO was written in a more equivalent way to balance both key elements of the script, the drama and the science behind the drama, it'd have had a more satisfying outcome.

I wanted to like this film but there was so little to like. I found it boring, unengaging and self important. Who is that interested in maths anyway? I thought that having Gillian Anderson in a key role would guarantee a decent sci if theme. But no this was a turgid mess of teenage nerd angst and paranoia.

Well for something that had great actors involved you'd want for more, instead you are left going wtf plenty. The lead character, well you don't truly understand his obsession, what they do show you, well it's similar to mine and your thinking, but I don't act like a dick. As for acting, hmmmm, well the lead itself should stick to the stage, Anderson, Strathairn and Purnell all woefully under used, lord knows what direction they were given.

Starting from the name of the movie, you will feel that there's a lot of thinking and philosophy behind it. And by the way, you have to Google "UFO" to find its meaning. The movie starts with a lot of written explanations about some mathematical theories and hypothesis, it's kinda elongated and would perfer if it's done in more cinematic way other than the lectures way. Then the events start with the appearance of a weird thing above an airport then it shows how the government, people, media and our main characters -who are university students- react to that incident. Then the events split into two lines, one of the students and their tries to solve the mystery behind the seeing, the other line is with FBI people investigating the incident. The movie has a very sharp way of explaining everything, so you will not be left with unasnwered questions. The actors are fitting well but no one is remarkable, some of them are just there to fill up the space. And the subcontractors are not fitting and some of them hiding a laugh which is annoying. The movie has a good photography, a lot of airport and planes scenes, you will not get the chance to see what appeared in the sky so no space for visual effects here. The problem is with the angles of the camera, the camera moves and the color editing which gives you the feeling of low budget movie. There's a relationship between low budget movies with good idea and high budget movies with bad idea, both of them will not be liked by a lot of people and it's a little bit risky because you will categorize the fans and watchers as this movie is not for everyone. I have a problem with that kind of movies that use mathematical theories and mysterious numbers as you will not understand what is being told nor you will be able to verify that the information given are correct. And this movie has a lot of that element. Finally, it's below the average movie that is hard to be categorized, because it has no drama nor action and a very little amount of thrill just enough to keep you watching it, you can easily get bored here if you don't like the idea from the beginning.

Nice one and a half hour well acted film. Don't expect aliens and full on action, but a nicely paced well written story that aims to make you question things. Very enjoyable.

The movie is slow paced, but full of intrigue. It leads you to understand what it takes to report something like this to a world that has become so skeptical and anti UFO. People that can't think past their left thumb seem to be what is called normal these days. And the ending, I will not give it away, gives way to the probability of a sequel. Hoping that is the case. Well done writer, actors, directors on a great movie.

This movie ultimately looks and feels like a pretty good student film, it has a pretty interesting story at it's core, and is made on a low budget, it also has some fine acting in it, but at the end of the day, it delivers little i would call cinema worthy. Now i didn't see it in a cinema, but still, a movie is a movie. This film kind of feels like an episode of a TV show, in it's editing and it's camera work. It's a movie that is made almost entirely on autopilot it seems, it delivers a formula you have seen hundreds of times before, it delivers very few surprises outside the plot itself which could go anywhere to be honest. And that is what saves this film, that i didn't know exactly where the main story would take me, and this raised the suspense, so i was never bored watching this, at least not much. But Gillian Anderson and David Strathairn has way too little to work with here, it almost feels like they are in this to either cash in on some easy job, or to maybe support an up and coming director, because they are both fine actors, and in this film, you couldn't tell if you had never seen them before. It's a decent end of the day film, it keeps your attention for the most part, but it wants to be something more, but there just isn't enough money involved to take it to the next level, so it tries to just stay on the ground, tries to keep things small, though ultimately the story itself is HUGE, so it sort of clashes a bit. So a decent afternoon flick you can watch while having some food or just feeling bored. Not a bad movie, but nothing special either. 6/10 - Fair
