I found that this movie was actually very well done. I am so sick of seeing movies with people's eyeballs hanging out (ahem) and chopping off limbs just for the simple point of not having anything else to do. I am also sick of seeing * and sex every second scene in the film - I am a female. I see * every single day. There is no reason for people to walk around with no tops on. This movie took place in Brazil where it's at least imaginable with the * beaches, etc. It's not like other movies that take place in the States or wherever when they show girls waltzing around * in change rooms or some other such nonsense. Moving on, this movie was made very well (in my opinion) and kept my interest the whole time. The way the characters were portrayed made you feel for them rather than just wishing the movie would hurry up so you could watch them die a la Paris Hilton in House of Wax. Sure, the movie may have been a bit predictable but name a movie that isn't? And it wasn't as if you could tell what was going to happen every second of the film (at least, I couldn't) and I really feel like the movie went along at a good pace and the action was timed perfectly. I recommend this movie for those of you who are tired of seeing the same old, same old. Don't get me wrong - I'm a big fan of the gore and all that stuff, but it was a nice change to see a movie without it.

A group of backpacking tourists are vacationing in Brazil. Their bus breaks down and they're greeted by some very unpleasant locals. Even though the acting wasn't up to par and the story was trite, unoriginal, and cliché, there was a few scenes that work for this movie. The Underwater cavern being the most obvious standout. I also really liked that the ending didn't go the extremely over-done route of leaving it open for a sequel (which is,by the way, the MOST overused idea in all of Horrordom) The movie doesn't stand up to multiple viewings at all. But it was a suitably enough rainy day time-waster. Not as bad as it you'd think. My Grade: C Eye Candy: Lucy Ramos shows T&A; and Beau Garrett gets topless

This may well be the worst movie I've seen this year. The first hour is excruciatingly boring. There is one cool scene where they used some great visual effects, but that's about it. I found it very hard to follow the plot. It seemed for a long time like nothing at all was going to happen. I was so desperate for action, that I started making it up in my imagination. When they finally do touch on the plot for 15 minutes, it's so watered down that you can't even enjoy what little action is there. The last half hour is nearly unwatchable. It reminded me of Hostel is some ways. But at least Hostel managed to be somewhat entertaining by the end. In short, don't waste your money...unless you're a fan of really boring, terrible movies.

Awesome! Warning: SOME LIGHT SPOILERS, BUT KEPT TO A MINIMUM Opens fun with some good thrills and partying in a remote Brazilian town, then slowly starts to shift tone. The audience gets to meet the bad guy long before the leads do, not to give anything away but he takes out one of his own guys in one of the nastier kills I've seen lately - actually, I saw nastier in Saw III, but this was more real so it is nastier to me. Our leads arrive at the evil doctor's house and we then see one of the most protracted blood and gore scenes that have seen the inside of a movie theater in awhile. A few of the good guys escape the doctor and his goons in a very tense and gory but somewhat uninventive escape sequence as far as the deaths go (except for a scene with a sickle chopping into a guy's foot from below). They make their way to a river which starts to flow underground. As they swim into the underground river, the water levels start to fill entire cave and there is one of coolest underwater chases that I've ever seen. They are sucking air out of tiny air pockets in the top of the caves to keep going. Don't know exactly how they shot this. Another cool bloody fight and death where a guy impales on a pointed rock hanging from the roof of the cave when he comes up for air. The survivors meet up in an underground cave where the river ends and are chased down but the bad doctor and his henchmen. Cool ending which I won't give away the details but you do get to see the doctors brains. This is a very cool movie - combination of the gore of a Saw or Hostel with great action chase sequences and awesome scenery and photography. 9/10

I never go to the movies, but I decided to take a couple of friends to see this. I had heard somewhere (forgive my forgetfulness regarding the source) that Turistas was a scarier and better movie than Hostel. These two friends of mine saw Hostel and loved it; I was not impressed with Hostel. So I thought we might all like Turistas. This movie develops so slowly that I was dying waiting for something to happen. And it wasn't like the "good" kind of waiting, where everything that is happening leads up to thrills and chills and becomes a very important part of the plot. The plot of the movie could have been done so much better. Turistas is nothing close to Hostel (which again, I was not impressed with). There are no scary parts whatsoever. The nudity in the movie is sparse and simple (so if you are looking for or expecting more than that you will be disappointed). I was so embarrassed to have suggested this movie to my friends. I feel like it was an absolute waste of time and money (and unlike others here, I only spent 5.75). It isn't even a movie worth saying "at least I've seen it." If you think Turistas is a good film, I really think you haven't seen much of anything that is actually good.

It is not a surprise that director John Stockwell (Crazy/Beautiful and Blue Crush)would be the creator of Fox Atomics first distribution Turistas. Slammed with tanned bodies, and topless television actresses, Turistas brings a new low to the Horror genre that seems to be an easy money-maker these days. The plot, about some tourists who get robbed on a paradise beach, and are then used for organ donations, does seem interesting on paper, but thanks to Stockwell's incompetent direction this low-bro catered adventure leads nowhere quick. Among the eight or so tourists that get trapped in this third world torture scenario, none of which deliver noteworthy nor engaging performances, most of them get killed so quickly we forget they were part of the caiparinia loving bunch to begin with. Much of the film has the fast-paced choppy editing, attributed to its lack of competency, lending to some of its unwatchable traits. No doubt, there is a huge demographic that will eat this film up, especially between the ages of twelve and seventeen. Others, looking for the Hostel-like imagery, putting the premise aside, will be greatly disappointed. There are a limited amount of shocking, bloody scenes, only making Turistas more of a teen film, as the on screen deaths become less, almost as if they ran out of funds half way through the production. Turistas definitely does not live up to the hype and extensive marketing campaign that has lead up to its release. Unfortunately it seems once Hollywood sees a decent idea, they steal it, gear it toward an easy to please demographic and then make it look glossy, forgetting all about the substance along the way. I wonder what other country they will pick next to be the subject of Hollywood's torturing tactics. Towards the end of the film, Stockwell does somewhat redeem Brazil's dignity, that was lost all throughout , despite the films on screen excuse being the white man's colonization of the Portuguese speaking country. Overall, Turistas is a forgettable attempt at making a rigid franchise. Fox Atomic has allot of work to do, before they decide to revisit this terrain.

I saw this movie despite it's bad rating, and I must say that it wasn't at all bad. Good production values, great soundtrack and a somewhat believable story. I think a lot of people would've found it better had they not expected a horror movie. Sure there's blood and guts in it, but it's more of an adventure-movie in the sense that the good-guys, bad-guys ratio evens things up. What it does lack however is a satisfying ending and a subplot that would given an added depth to the characters. I still think it deserves a 5 rating as it's different than most movies, it doesn't follow the standard 'stupid-people walking straight into doom' recipe. It's beautifully shot at locations that I'd love to see in real life. It did get a notch or two higher for the effort. If the last 15 minutes of it had been a bit more scary and gruesome I'd definitely would've given it a 6 or a 7. If you are after a Texas Chainsaw-kind of deal you are most likely looking in the wrong direction, but if you are not, then this might tickle the fright in you just enough for it to be worth renting.

I agree with McGreysFan, this film is much better than you would expect. It is not a horror it is a thriller and I suspect that the reason it has been rated so low is that the people voting on it are of the 18-24 demographic. this is a good thriller, not a slash and splatter horror, which I am not in to really because they are always a bunch of dumb teens running around and screaming. Terrible acting with no real story. This film had good acting, a good story and I enjoyed it, I almost didn't watch it because I was put off by the IMDb rating of it. One thing though, the English guy Finn I think his name was, man did he do my head in, I am English and I found him incredibly annoying. As a comparison I would say this film was much better than Hostel which I would give a 2 this I would rate as a five. It was an adult film. A decent thriller with which I was pleasantly surprised.
