The movie starts of well & keeps you guessing till the end. It also has some twists, but this movie doesn't deserve 10/10.
Why it's good: 1. To watch Vijay. If you're Vijay's fan, this is one of his best you can expect. 2. Story with twists, patriotism & Kajal 3. A good commercial story, though could've been better.
Why it's not best: 1. To watch Vijay!! One hero taking many!? - Unrealistic sometimes, he works on some hunches, he can recover from his broken arm within 10 minutes, can kill countless armed people, etc. 2,3,4.. Watch it, you'll realize. I don't want to reveal spoilers.
On the whole, a good tamil movie. But not a best thriller like "A Wednesday" as it is being hyped. This doesn't deserve to be in IMDb's top, having avg. 9 rating. It's worth watching once & don't expect it to be best as per the ratings. It's rated 9/10 or 10/10 by vijay's fans only.

First things first, Vijay has never been revered as a hero of the multiplex crowds.
For someone with terrific track record in the box office compared to all his peers, Vijay is subjected to needless, unfair and unruly criticism by a dedicated minority especially in the social networking space where calling yourself a fan of a good looking actor is seen as an added incentive to gain attention. Some budding small actors also join the bandwagon to use the good looking hero's name to gain popularity.
But wait!!!
Have the efforts of the dedicated minority and some cheap actors paid dividends? Have they been able to make any impact on Vijay's Box-office prowess?
The answer is a resounding NOOOOOO!!!!! The reason is, no matter what the social network says, Vijay is the most consistent and bankable star in the Tamil Industry for good part of last 15 years. Vijay has the largest fan following of all actors in his generation and truly is the Man of the Masses.
The Illayathalapthy is back with a resounding bang with Thuppakki!!!!
In what can be truly said as a resounding slam 'straight to the face' for all who undermined him, Vijay absolutely thrills in Thuppakki.
The movie is also a comeback of sorts for the director and A.R. Murugadoss has sketched a character that promises to turn both his and Vijay's career around. Thuppakki is all about the life of Major Jagdeesh and his encounter with a dreaded head of the sleeper cells network in Mumbai,Vidyut Jamaal.
Vijay enthralls in all areas of Action,Dialogue Delivery,Comedy and Dance and once again proves that @37 he is the fittest and the most energetic hero around. Vijay take a bow!!!!
The technical aspects of the movie w.r.t. Camera by Santhosh Sivan,Editing by Sreekar Prasad and Music by Harris Jayaraj are all top notch. Special mention should be made regarding the background score by Harris, World Class!!!!!
With Thuppakki's resounding success,Vijay has once again proved that he is second only to Rajnikanth with respect to fan following and market value. Thuppakki will always remain an important feather in Vijay's cap and a movie close to the heart for all this fans.
Surely, this is the first of many to come for the Ilayathalapathy and this movie has done its bit to stop the unfair treatment for Vijay in the social networking space. Vijay fans look a lot confident in facing up against unfair ridicule and criticism.
Ilayathalapathy Vijay is here to stay and rule!

What makes a good or even great action movie? There are websites to look this up, surely. But, what makes a good/great Tamil action movie? If we were to go by the popular Tamil movie reviewers and audiences (for 2012), Thuppakki (Gun) seems to the one, edging others out. I despair as prominent director A. R. Murugadoss dumbs down a that made me want to slit my wrists or moreover kill myself with a thuppakki that Vijay produces in the movie, as an option for the bad guys to take his own life.
There is a hero Jagdish (Vijay), a silly sidekick Balaji (Sathyan), a sillier heroine Nisha (Kajal Agarwal) and the villain/bad guy/terrorist (what else is new?) with a roundhouse kick that challenges that of Chuck Norris, Vidyut Jamwal (dude has no name; no, not akin to the Dollars trilogy, he's just a puppet terrorist, almost to the point of being cute) and some others who die and some who don't. Story? Hmmm, good guy defeats the bad guy, and in-between he manages to squeeze in a few duets and perform comedy because (SPOILERS!!!),
a. Terrorism is a light-hearted subject b. We all know that in the end, it's all going to be okay
Now, don't get me wrong, the film ain't half bad (no let me change the fraction; the film is 9.5/10 - bad), and it is not what people raved on and on and on about; sadly it is a tawdry affair that blocked up my sinus and other cavities. Hey Muslims, forget USA, it is India that shows that all Muslims are terrorists in their "philums". And, what's with censoring names of cities and ministers? Are the audience of India so stupid, that there'd have been riots if the names had not been censored? Well, the audience did make a hit out of this, so
Thuppakki has its moments and they are few (again, let me change the number to two; no more). But it was more a exploitative film which wanted us to jerk tears (is that a new term?) at the little Muslim kid, pointing to his dead father on the TV screen and had more plot holes than you can poke a stick at (intended). Vijay, at his nonchalant best, drags the movie (especially in the torture scenes, which by the way, are a hoot and a half), Kajal can't act if her life depended on it (there, someone had to say it) and the others are not so memorable with the exception of Vidyut Jamwal's roundhouse kick and Santosh Sivan's cinematography. Music is terrible (c'mon Harris Jeyaraj) and the rest, well, I can only say "meh". Here I would like to point out a prominent "Tamil phylum reviewer" who compared this garbage to Neethaane En Ponvasantham and favoured this mindless masala meandering of a movie over NEP. For me "Thuppakki" shot nothing but blanks. Oh, how I despair for you Tamil cinema
I'm waiting

The movie was not so good. Acting also not so good in the movie. The story and scenes in the movie itself not acceptable. Songs were not good but BGM and Theme were amazing. 1st half in the movie was somewhat good. Boring movie.
