This is one of my favorite movies. It wasn't predictable, which is what I enjoyed the most. You have a great cast, including Stephen King himself. I'm surprised this movie didn't have a bigger rating. It's definitely underrated in my opinion.

i don't under stand why this movie has such a low rating because its one of my favorite movies its really good like plus anything that has anything to do with Stephen king should at least have a seven well all in all i really enjoyed this film and i bet u will two this definitely isn't Stephen's kings best work but its still good and better then a five rating and if u don't like this movie there's something wrong with you sorry but its just to good for anyone not to like you all should see this movie its very good and i still don't under stand the low rating but its from people comparing it to the book the book was geart but so was the movie even though it doesn't have every little detail that was in the book

This movie was absolutely terrible. I can't believe I paid to see it in the theatre. I wouldn't watch it on free cable t.v. I'm surprised that Joe Magtena even made it. Do not waste your time with this movie.

I'd have to say that THINNER is the worst movie known to the IMDB and public viewing for that matter, as is can barely call itself a thriller/horror the only thing that rattled me in the film is how someone can be so repulsively OVERWEIGHT! Although that can't even be classed as scary since the fat wasnt even believable! For a 1996 movie which was an odd 7yrs ago with technology nearing its peak this movie still embodied fake blood, bad makeup and poor special effects. I found movies such as Rosemary's Baby, the Omen, Carrie and Psycho scary which were made years and years ago if this trash i.e. "thinner" is what we have to expect for modern day films be very afraid! I'm warning - you watch this movie if you are starting an EFFECTIVE diet plan. -10000000\10

Welcome to KingLand! Please note that you are parked in Dopey 96. First stop is Phony Baloneyland, where a gypsy camp is set up in the townsquare! Cockfights, fun and fortune-telling for all! Bring the kiddies! Uh oh! Watch the Gypsy King's old-as-dirt daughter go back for her coat for no apparent reason! Ten points! Hit her! Now we're deep into KingLand where curses are complimentary and spread around like margarine on dry toast. Follow our Tubby hero as he waddles about and then wearily wanes to nill. Be careful, though, when Gypsy King turns to Betty Crocker! Blood pudding? Feh! Try the yummy strawberry pie! Now we're cooking with gas! Sorry to wrap up so quick but gather your personal belongings, take small children firmly by the hair and hope for better times at KingLand.

The plot of The Thinner is decidedly thin. And gross. An obese lawyer drives over the Gypsy woman, and the Gypsy curse causes him to lose and lose weight... to the bone. OK, Gypsy curses should be entertaining, but the weight-losing gone bad? Nope. Except Stephen King thinks so. And Michael McDowell, other horror author and the screenwriter of this abysmal film, does so, too. The lawyer is not only criminally irresponsible, he is fat too, haha! The Thinner is like an immature piece of crap for a person who moans how he/she has never seen anything so disgusting than fatness. Hey, I can only say: Well, look at the mirror.

This isn't a terrible movie, it's just not that good either. Decidedly average with a ridiculous premise, corny dialogue and some below par acting. The lead actor is the worst culprit. No offence to the guy but he's not leading man material. The special effects designed to make him look obese are very dated and just make him look unrealistic and almost like a cartoon character. The other characters are complete clichés, from the evil gypsies with magic in their veins to a psychotic Mob boss. This would have worked better as a 30 minute Tales From The Crypt episode. It's not interesting enough or good enough for a movie.

Obese Billy Halleck, on the receiving end of a bit of how's-your-father while driving, runs down a gypsy woman, and finds himself on the receiving end of a curse whereby the weight falls off him for no reason: he has to try to find a way to get the curse taken away before the weight loss kills him. The first of Stephen King's books to be published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, Thinner is a pacey suspense story with mild horror/supernatural elements and no frills. The film adaptation is faithful to the book and workmanlike enough, but it is fair to say that, like the book, it does little beyond telling an enjoyable but unexceptional story with efficiency. The fat costumes and prosthetics are well done but, inevitably, they aren't wholly convincing.
