Okay, I know this is a horror movie and they don't end well, I get that. It's what my wife and I only agree on. I'm super-hero movies and science fiction while she's true life drama and an avid Lifetime watcher where the man is always the bad guy. We meet halfway in horror. ANYWAY...like I said, I get that horror movies end horribly, but at least some of them have a way where our hero's research what is happening to them and they find some arcane way to fight back. I sincerely hope you're not looking for that in this film...'cause it's not there. I find at the end that I've just watched a Kobayashi Maru. In nerd talk, and yes, I'm a huge nerd...it means that this was a no-win scenario. People in this movie had no chance. I'm just watching this movie now in 2021. Don't know how I missed this one. It was good, but it's a one time watch, I'm afraid. Peace.

they was not a great movie.very little suspense,or even tension.the plot was kind of bizarre, even for a horror movie.the creature effects weren't terribly impressive, and the creatures themselves didn't inspire any fear.there was however one bright spot.that was laura reagan, who played the main character, julia.i thought she was pretty impressive at being at first scared and then terrified.the rest of the actors/ characters were pretty much forgettable.i do have to admit there was one scene toward the end of the movie, where i jumped.otherwise,i spent most of the time trying to stifle my yawning instinct.this was not the worst movie i've ever seen,by any stretch.it was however, less than good. 3* out of 10 only because of the believability of laura reagan

When i watched it 15 years ago, i just loved it, great horror title. I watched it several times after also, as it happens on all horror titles, watching same movie may not be same effect each time but it is just enough to make audience on the edge of their chair at first time.. Wes Craven at his best, no wonder why it is so compelling... It is really hard to understand this low ranking of the title, perhaps its because many people cannot really connect anymore to their younger self to address the emotional level of this movie. You cant really enjoy this movie if only what you like is heck&slash zombie horrors or gross entertainment... This movie is simple fear and you are gonna get it right or you are not at all... don't watch it with biased comments, just watch it... You might just love it, not because of the comments here but because you really would do... 9/10

They isn't a horror film for fans of horror who like gratitious gore and is more of a plot-thought provoking film where if you ever did suffer from the mental disorder known as Night Terrors as i did as a young child then this movie will strike a chord within you and leave chills running up and down your spine. If you never had horrific nightmares as a kid then it probably won't do much for you as the acting really isn't that great and I really didn't feel that sympathetic towards any of the adult charachters once They got them. They afterwards spooked the living crap out of me as for several weeks now I've had to close my closet door before i go to sleep as I have visions of the very well executed They monsters in the back of my mind.Definatley rent the DVD as the alternate ending offers more of an explanation as to what They is but it also takes away from the horror movie aspect of the film and makes it a film in just psychlogical terror instead. *** out of *****

Nineteen years ago, young Billy Parks was taken by a mysterious force in his bedroom. In the present, Julia Lund (Laura Regan) is working towards her masters degree in psychology. Paul Loomis (Marc Blucas) is her boyfriend. She meets childhood friend Billy who claims that they were marked as children and warns her about the dark. He then shoots himself in front of her. This thing is devastatingly slow. There is no tension whatsoever. The story is stripped down to basically nothing. It doesn't maintain any creepiness. As a horror, there is nothing to be afraid of in this. The jump scares are really telegraphed. Laura Regan screams but that's all. The "Wes Craven presents" is the first warning. Essentially, it means that Wes collected a paycheck but otherwise has little to do with the filmmaking.

Well-crafted thriller that plays upon night terrors and the old "monster in the closet" legend. An ambitious, sensible young psychology student is occasionally frightened by memories of old childhood nightmares. She, along with a group of strangers, eventually come together believing they were all traumatized and "tagged" as children by mysterious night demons, the very same demons who may be returning to complete some ominous, unfinished business. Occasionally spooky thriller holds your interest the way it should, but it never really tops its effective opening sequence, or gets informative enough to be really satisfying. **
