this is nothing i expected i watched it because it looked funny in the trailers. But when i watched it i kept waiting for the funny part which never came. This movie has good morals but no comedy. But if you are fans of sad movies then you will like this movie but if you want to watch it because you think it's going to be funny then don't watch this. This movie is not for kids it's more for the adults that want something sad to watch. IF a kid watches it they will go to sleep in half an hour. I am not saying it's boring but it's just tooooooooo sad for my likings. But either way it's a good one time watch if you want to teach someone of forgiveness, not changing the nature and there one more that there is a hero in everything small and big.

The story-line of this cartoon is so weak that it required a narrator. I found it boring and the use of the voices of the many name-brand actors and actresses couldn't save it. It's just another rodent-tale that has been done better elsewhere.

I went to this movie with my two little kids (2 and 4) thinking it would be a good kids movie. The advertisements showed it being a fun filled movie. However, the movie was very dark and scary with the rats, and especially at the end where they are going to eat the princess.....NOT good for kids. The trailers all made you think there might be some humor in the movie, however, there is none. I would not recommend this movie for kids. I don't know why these types of kids movies cannot include some humor. How tough can it be to add humor that a kids would like to an animated movie? I can't remember the last time I've seen a good kids movie that made my kids enjoy it and it was funny. Some of the old cartoons beat out these new expensive movies.

Before watching the movie, I read the book. The book was awesome; very well-written, engaging, and fulfilling. The movie follows the book's plot, for the most part. However, the illustrations/animation of the movie are really bad. The mice are adorable; but the human faces are very ugly. I got an eerie feeling watching this movie, just due to the way the humans were animated. Their faces were way too elongated and they just scared me. An unfortunate situation where a great story is ruined by the ugly animations.
Aside from the animations, this movie did not turn out to be very engaging. It seems to be very dull and boring, for the most part. I did not mind the dark themes of the movie and violence, because that is just part of the story. These themes actually enhance the movie. The lessons learnt are very good, but it is not that fun to watch. Maybe little kids will like it more than older ones.

This was very entertaining. The artwork was great and the detail was good. I wish I could be like Despereaux. His character is strong and willing to go help others. It has a good message that shows how what you do affects others.
The vegetable man does bother me, I wish that part could have been left out. I don't like the need to get help from a "being".
I would have liked to have gotten more information on why the father had to give up his baby girl.
I liked the story of the rat that got into a bad situation and almost let it destroy him. However, he realized that good was better than evil.

The movie was totally Boring and no Fun. The graphics was not good and the storyline was not good at all. First, I don't know that there are differences between Rat and Mouse but after seeing this movie I understood that there are differences between Rat and Mouse. It was a dry movie and there was no comedy or entertainment. I think I wasted my time to watch this movie. That cat scene was good and the last scene was not bad. I like the man who is made up of vegetables. When, I Was watching this movie, I was yawning because it was so boring. I wish the creators of "The Tale of Despereaux" will do better when they make another movie.

In the 4th grade we had to read the book this movie was based off of. It was pretty good. I'd highly recommend reading it. We then had to watch the movie. It was pretty bad. It wasn't terrible or incompetent, it was just kinda boring. Nothing was executed very well. The story veered off from the book and just became kinda dumb. The animation wasn't very good and I was bored. From what I can tell, I'm not the only kid who was bored watching this movie. There are plenty of other movies that you could be showing your kid - like Ratatoing - that are better than that movie. (To anyone who has heard of that movie, I hope you know that I am joking. Parents, show your kids Ratatouille because its adorable and well written. In no circumstances should you support the people who made Ratatoing.)

This film is interesting as far as animated films go, based on several storybooks with interlinked subplots. This leads to a muddled plot that juggles too many ideas, settings and characters but it does make the film quite distinct. The titular Despereaux, the fearless mouse, appears only after a very long introduction. Mig's purpose in the story is not established for a long time and initially seems like a mindless diversion. The rat world in the dungeon is also introduced long before the story has anything to do with it. Although the message of the film is good (forgiveness is more powerful than hatred), it's watered down by a strange resolution wherein the main conflict of the film is nonsensically resolved by the hero accidentally ringing a bell - which anyone could have done.
