Plenty of action in this film. Very enjoyable. At first when I saw this film, The Sweeney were gang members, however I have since learned well today hahaha, that they are an elite Police Force. Jack(Winstone) and George(Drew) and co are called into action. I didn't get the plot at first. So that's a negative. The Opening scene is a robbery. So I thought they were the robbers, but it so happens that they are an Elite Police Force as I said earlier. Then they are then told that there's to be a big hiest in a "Non- traditional high street bank". One member of the police force is killed and hence a battle ensues. Jack is stripped of his Police Badge, and sent to prison. Its up to sexy George to break him out or at the very least to prove his innocence. So a great movie, however plot very lost. So my guess is that you'd have to have seen the TV Series. hahaha. So overall enjoyed it emmenesley. Very good. Highly recommended. Loyalty is a key player in the film.

This was so over the top, it was almost funny, but came across as ridiculous. I do like the 'all action nonsense' genre, as long as it's not too stupid. This crosses the line into the peoples republic of cockney 'too stupid' I recall the original series was at least plausible (ish) but this goes into a rather weird parody of 'cockney villains and tough cockney coppers, innit mate" Rather a waste of some talented actors Watch once if you're bored or need a laugh 6/10

So, what you do is you take the most dull, formulaic cop story. Then, you name the main characters after those in the a classic 70s TV show and you claim it's the film version of the show. Frankly, it's a clichéd storyline which has been done a thousand times before and is not even remotely typical of the type of plots used in the original TV series. It's a shame - a good film version of The Sweeney could probably be done, but this isn't it. Ray Winstone gives his usual good performance, but you can see he finds it impossible to really bring any depth to the character - particularly the poorly conceived romance angle (which seems to be there purely for the "now it's personal" angle later).

(47%) Taking a TV series that is 1970's to a tee and recreating it in a modern setting hasn't really worked here, as beyond the title this is hardly anything like the TV programme. The show was mainly about cops pushing their power to breaking point to get the job done and reaping the consequence afterwards, even if they were indeed successful. While here it's about the more clear cut elements from the show like shoot outs and car chases as the interesting ideas of the show play second fiddle to sub "Heat" style action. So forget the Sweeney tag on as it is a gimmick, and just try to enjoy this low-budget cop show for what it's worth.

A movie about Scotland Yard's Flying Squad set in the 21st century should have been awesome. Imagine a well-written, gritty story about London's criminal underbelly and the crack police squad fighting dirty to bring them down. Well, this is not that film. This is essentially a sub-par geezer film that just happened to used the same title and character names as an iconic 70 series. There the resemblance ends, so you won't be at a disadvantage if you haven't seen the TV show. Not quite sure why the writers did that, but if they kept the drinks coaster they wrote the storyline out on, it may hold the answer there. Ray Winstone plays Ray Winstone very well (as usual). The rest of the cast were pretty innocuous. If you want lots of glossy bang-crash-wallop, you'll probably get your money's worth. But if you're looking for a thought-provoking plot, sharp dialogue and a well-drawn cast of characters, this may not be the film for you.

To call this film The Sweeney does an injustice to John Thaw and Dennis Waterman. I found Ray Winstone's Jack Reagan repulsive. This movie lacked just about everything the TV series had.

Winstone trying to look athletic AND sexy, a twelve year old playing Carter who sounds like he's on Mogadon and reading from a bad translation of the script, and zero originality. Apart from that... Dreadful acting, unrealistic action scenes (hint: bullets keep on flying after they miss a target), an elderly man who is a fatal attraction for a much younger woman and dialogue out of the bottom drawer. A colleague and I always used to joke when in a works vehicle, trotting out all the old Sweeney catchphrases, and even though everything 'cockerney' simply leaves me cold I quite enjoyed the original. It was helped by the fact that there were people working on it with skill, talent and originality. All I can say to the makers of this film is "Shat it, you slaaags!"

The 1970s hard as nails series was a classic - well acted and cynical But this just doesn't offer anything apart from a mandatory car chase - grunting and bemused actors wondering what on Earth they're in. Basically we're the Sweeney son but we haven't got a script. Lock all involved up immediately.

The only reason I lasted so long, and im only 40 mins in watching this mince , is my dog has fallen asleep between my legs and the remote control is on the other couch. Plot ,acting ,storyline and script is as bad as the apples and pears lovely jubbly Cockney rhyming used throughout. God I wish I had longer arms.

I was brought to this movie by my recent Ray Winstone binge. I will compare some parts of this movie, with no spoilers, to other movies, but only in the most flattering light. Influenced, I think. Ripoff, no. As I said before, I have been binging Ray Winstone lately. And his performances are impressive. This is no exception. This is also the first time I have seen Hayley Atwell outside of The Avengers saga. She's got some chops. Paul Anderson didn't get as much screen time as I would have liked. Damian Lewis' role was also smaller than I would prefer. The big gun battle evoked memories of Heat with Pacino and DeNucklehead. And some of the soundtrack and cinematography reminded me of Nolan's Batman Trilogy. I feel like the pacing was really sharp. It had good, not great twists. It's more than solid watch. See this movie.
