In a world often dominated by empty blockbuster spectacles and CGI-laden epics, it's refreshing to encounter a film that dares to be small, savage, and stark. The Stoic is a testament to the power of a lean script, strong performances, and a brutal, unforgiving landscape.
One of the film's greatest strengths is its ability to achieve so much with so little. Despite a modest budget, The Stoic delivers a visually satisfying and immersive experience. The cinematography is excellent, capturing the raw beauty and unforgiving nature of the landscape. The mirror between the desolate wasteland and the characters creates a palpable sense of tension and isolation.
The film's lean script is another major asset. There's no excess baggage here, no unnecessary plot points or convoluted subplots. Every scene serves a purpose, driving the narrative forward and deepening our understanding of the characters. The dialogue is spare and direct, reflecting the harsh realities of the world they inhabit.
The performances are uniformly excellent. Everyone is equally impressive, providing depth and nuance to their roles.
But it's the film's unflinching mood that truly makes it stand out. The Stoic creates its own world, with its own rules and doesn't shy away from the harsh realities of that world. There are moments of violence that may not be for everyone - indeed, it's not a film for everyone - but they are never gratuitous. Instead, they serve to underscore the uncompromising nature of the narrative.
In conclusion, The Stoic is a gritty, uncompromising gem that deserves to be seen. It's a film that reminds us of the power of storytelling, the importance of a lean script, and shows what real professionals can do with a limited budget. It's a must-see for fans of independent cinema and those who appreciate a film that dares to be different from the bland mainstream.

Love this film! Brilliant story with a stellar cast. Scott Wright is incredible in his role as The Stoic, perfectly cast for this dark role. Highly recommend watching this chilling British film which will have you on the egde of your seat. The cold west of England morland gives a grim enclosed feel, making it feel very dark, which is actually why I am attracted to this film. It is totally different to the landscape we are used to here in America so it takes us to a different world. Definitely worth a watch, I enjoyed it immensely and I'm looking forward to seeing Scott Wright is other leading roles.

As soon as I heard the unmistakable cockney British accent of actor Jason Flemyng (*Guy Ritchie movies) I was intrigued! An impressive cast lineup with Bruce Payne (*Highlander, *Dungeons and Dragons), and Scott Wright playing a scarey vigilante-type action hero "The Stoic" plus a strong supporting cast. A gang of nervous trigger-happy mercenaries holed up together in a remote cottage slowly builds tension to create a feeling of impending doom designed to keep you right on the edge of your seats! Shot against bleak, grey, mist covered Welsh countryside in Winter - the visual vibe and sounds are very chilling. A well-executed low budget indie movie which delivers - a big thumbs up!

From the very start of the movie I was hooked a fantastic dark story line an amazing cast. The stoic himself was truly believable and at times menacing yet with compassion. I thought all of the cast were amazing and believable a totally new story line which is rare today. There are times when I was truly scared, yet there is humour too and also I cried but won't tell you anymore as it's a must watch and make your own mind up. Truly leaves you wanting more. The most real Movie I have seen in a long time simply wow.!! All of the actors bring their own personality to their parts which is real and believable there is something about the stoic himself that is mesmerising at times ,you never know when or what he is going to do next .
Loved it !!

Interesting concept with some good performances from the cast.
Action from the get go and a stable tempo, albeit a touch drawn out in parts. The movie has a greyscale look and a raw and edgy feel to it.
Whilst much of the movie is shot in one location, which can have its downsides it does seem to work in this instance.
The characters are well cast and The Stoic himself, played by Scott Wright is a mysterious and intriguing character - and as always a strong performance by Jason Flemyng.
The UK has a wealth of home-grown talent and we need to saw more of this.
Stong effort on what was probably a tight budget.

I thought it was a good English made film, with good intentions all round, although I could agree with some of the comments I have read, it certainly doesn't deserve the poor ratings given by others. Good cast and decent acting.
Edgy dark and filmed in the uk, I would imagine with a small budget, so based on that it is a good
Quality film, and worth a watch to support local actors directors, and all the people who work on these types of films.
I am a big fan of English films and thought it was just as good as some of the bigger budget films I have seen previously.
So give it a try and make your own minds up,

I really enjoyed this movie. You can tell there are budget limitations but i think this is an excellent effort and it's definitely worth a watch as the themes of stoicism are intriguing. Stand out performances from Scott Wright, Bruce Payne and Jason Flemyng, and also the cast as a whole. The locations are exceptional, i believe it was shot in north wales during the winter time which gives a really gritty feel to the piece. I do not agree with the 1 star ratings in the slightest and can not gather how you can perceive this film in that manner. Overall i really enjoyed this film and would definitely recommend giving it a try.
