This film took me by surprise. When I went to the cinema to watch The Seasoning House, I didn't know what to expect. It was a British movie, the director's name was unfamiliar to me, the poster didn't gave me much clues except the critics seemed to like it, so basically I had no idea what I was in for. Boy was I surprised, 90 minutes well spent! The story is intriguing, based on real events that used to happen not so long ago somewhere in the Balkans, the acting is impeccable, and the cinematography is gold. This movie holds you firm in your seat as it changes gears several times throughout the story. I think it is going to be one of those movies where you either love it or hate it. Even though I am not really a horror fan, I found this movie very entertaining and would strongly recommend watching it. The horror critics seem to agree. The world is a cruel place… and The Seasoning House has windows through which you can see it.

Accents, accents…. why do casting directors always employ the actors who cannot put on an accent to put on an accent? By far the best voicing was carried out by Rosie Day; the mute girl at the centre of the movie….she didn't speak…Thumbs Up there! Russian, Eastern European, even some pronunciations came across as Asian "vot iz ziz" Just over two thirds of the way through the movie there was a subtle homage to "Behind Enemy Lines" (also set during the Balkans conflict) As Angel is escaping here pursuers she comes across a dumping ground for the dead, a bog of rotten and rotting corpses. She didn't quite do the "using the corpses as cover thing" as in BEL but deference was certainly paid. It is also reminded me a little of Hostel in a few ways; filming style, sexual violence, the chase and the locale. If you can manage to suspend belief and hide your muted laughter at the comical accents the movie is hard hitting, some say gritty, I don't agree with that, it is not particularly down to earth or raw. There are some unpleasant, though believable violent scenes, mostly in the first 40 minutes. The movie flits too easily in and out of past memories trying in vain to fill in the mounting gaps in the dialogue and plot. The locations are hazy as well, We can all safely assume from the accents attempted it is in Eastern Europe (Balkans conflicts). Nowhere is there any location, date or timeline given, which would have helped establish more creditability in the whole thing. The locations used in movie are clearly an old Army base/urban training ground with a faux housing estate and the odd washing line and car here and there. Watchable, but that's about it. 4/10

This film is altogether distasteful and gratuitous. Undoubtedly, there is ample evidence that hideous events occurred during the Balkan crises, however, this script merely uses the Balkans as a parasitical device. The film actually does not look especially like the area it portrays. The few wide shots portray buildings that resemble disused British council houses. The sexual violence is truly unpleasant and relentless - whilst the film makes no statement about morality. A film with a markedly similar background has already been made - 'The Land of Blood and Honey' - equally disturbing as 'TSH', it actively deals with the morality and consequences of the scenario. In essence, I found 'TSH' unpleasant and unnecessary, serving little purpose but to shock.

This movie was complete garbage. Who are the people that are rating this super high and what the hell is wrong with you?! The subject of the movie is already extensively dark and dreadful. But, when you add that with distasteful continuous violence and perversion the movie has to do much more to convince me that it's actually telling a STORY. This movie doesn't tell a story anyone ever needed to see. What exactly was the POINT of this movie? Men are animals? It's just a stupid movie I'm sorry. It's highly unlikely the main character, Angel, would have the role she had in this movie in real life. I couldn't wait for it to be over. Honestly let me recommend another movie if you really do enjoy violent or twisted movies, but that at least is a movie WORTH the watch. Martys was very, very good... Just make sure you see the 2008 & not 2015. You're welcome. Skip this crap.
