This could have been good, but the poor acting, slow pace and rather strange script distracted from a meaningful message.
Message of the film = 8 stars
Execution and acting = 2 stars
Script = 2.

This is a movie that's a very amateurish production, with a silly script and some seriously terrible acting. The dialog just seems to be improvised and pointless. It besg the question, "Why are movies like this even made?"

Knowing & reading up on this Indie film I was aware of what to expect. Although it's not the the best film I've seen it rates high with it's message. Coming from a religious background, both my husband & I, i found that it hit home. Not only with the struggling of 'coming out' but also reconciling with the Church. Recently finding a place of worship that was 'inclusive' & discussed the deconstruction of the Bible instead of hearing the same old Blah Blah Blah that we've heard for years. This gave me hope & acceptance that 'God Loves Everyone'! The message in this movie is clear! I found it funny, serious, emotional and yes, sometimes trite. But again, the message of this movie was clear.

I was hesitant to watch this because of the low rating. But after reading reviews and a rant about how it's not a Christian movie I had to watch. It's an honest, funny, and heartfelt film. Worth seeing!

Thirty-five minutes into The Road to Edmund, I thought this was going to be another failed Christian road trip movie, along the lines of Extreme Days. The beginning was slow, awkward, forced, and self-conscious. But I kept watching, and something happened. It got good! Don't expect Hollywood polish and razzle-dazzle, but for an indie movie that's mostly conversations, it's quite good and very refreshing. I really wish I had been able to see this movie maybe forty years ago or so, when I was an adolescent dealing with these issues and my faith conflicts. Kudos to the writers!

This is supposedly a "low-budget" comedy. It is much more than that! And, it is not a "church" movie. But it is a movie that all Christians should take the time to watch. What starts out as kind of a quirky comedy becomes very spiritually thought-provoking and quite touching. It really addresses issues that the Evangelical Church community needs to seriously contemplate. Definitely time well-spent!

This film is less about Christianity and the Church and more about the process of deconstruction. I felt alone in my journey when I started deconstructing my faith in bible college. The church I worked at alienated me until finally giving me the ax when I told a high schooler that God loved him no matter who he likes. If it wasn't for people like Larry coming into my life I don't know how I would have made it! Everyone needs their Larry!

Tripp Fuller (Larry) in real life is an author, podcaster, and spokesperson for a progressive expression of Christianity. As such, the average evangelical is not going to warm to the Christianity presented in The Road to Edmond. Cleo (who names a guy that?) is a youth pastor who is suspended from his position for his acceptance of a young girl in his group who comes out as a lesbian. While trying to take a bike trip to process this, his bike is damaged when Larry runs it over with his van.
From there, it becomes somewhat of a buddy/journey film. Larry continues to go Socratic on Cleo in the course of the movie, and both Cleo and Larry reveal more about each other as the story continues.
This would be a good movie for a college-aged group to watch and I'd recommend it highly.
