I know there are a lot of us out there that claim overall movie fandom and to me, it's not measured by how many movies you own or how many you've seen. In most cases, it's what a movie invokes after you watch it. After seeing the trailer and being overly anxious, I finally watched "The Revenant" and to say it blew my mind would be an understatement. To pigeon hole it as just a horror/comedy doesn't really do it justice either. D. Kerry Prior has taken a great concept and through the superb storytelling and visual aesthetics has brought this terrific movie full circle. The end really justifies all that the characters would be put through. You really buy into actors Chris Wylde and David Anders as friends and the conversations feel very real. I have been telling everyone I know about this movie because I think it is one that can be enjoyed across genres and needs to be seen.

This film released previously more than 6yrs ago. Why again? This movie isn't funny or doesn't have strong storyline. To me it's a combination of zombie and Dracula. Why hero killed his girlfriend? Why he came back to life? Why he couldn't drink animal blood? Why he killed his best friend? Why the movie ended suddenly? What the director's try to portray isn't clear.
I'm from Bangladesh I've seen it already. Then why u guys bother to see it.
If u don't have anything to do then only it is preferable. Otherwise waste of time.

What fun for any horror lover. I must say I am truly surprised! Most other horror/comedy flicks are absolute dreck and not worth the time. But this brought back memories of An American Werewolf in London, and Evil Dead II without being a ripoff. Not bad company for this writer/director/producer. I can't wait to see what he does next, as well as the two male leads who were absolutely, hilariously brilliant! And I've seen some comments here that some thought the ending was probably not the smartest thing to do, but when has the military thoroughly thought out the ramifications of their tactics such as invading Iraq, which turned out not to have WMDs, just being the first blunder and the ingenious setup for the plot. I personally thought the ending was perfect. A soldier who at the beginning is so morally conscientious it gets him killed, becomes the perfect killing machine at the end which comes full circle. The anti war/gun mentality is deftly embedded. The script is witty, ironic, and very, very funny with a balanced dose of pathos thrown in for good measure which made the characters much more believable and human. Overall great entertainment for those of us who love this deliciously twisted genre when it's done right. Two thumbs way up!!

I caught The Revenant at a horror film festival in the UK late last year and to my amazement it surprised the living hell out of me.
*To be honest I have to state that for the £15 i spent on going to the festival I would have spent that alone to watch, buy or download a copy of this movie its great...
It's zombie flick meet vampire flick meets cops and robbers! (so to speak) I myself and the audience where in fits of laughter throughout the movie and where still talking about it for days / weeks to come.
I don't want to give any spoilers away but I will just advise people thinking about going to see this to not think, JUST DO! and for the love of god enjoy it! :)
For fans of: Zombies, Vampires, Sex, Blood, Guns and over the top stupidity.
*I just hope this gets an actual screening in the UK and doesn't just go straight to DVD!*

I was provoked by all the positive reviews on here of this film to write my own review.
reading review titles like " A cult classic " really gets into my nerves, this movie was really boring, badly acted and silly.
the plot was very shallow, and had no goal or target, no meaning. the concept itself was ridiculous and silly, a zombie vigilante, who comes back from the dead to kill bad people and eat them !! just didn't work.
Acting was mediocre, and the pace was slow and boring. I started to fast forward the film just to see how this garbage ended ? i was curious if it had a certain goal in the end, but nothing !!
take my advice on this one, and stay away from this movie.

Despite winning a lot of awards at various festivals (check out the wiki page for the impressive full list), The Revenant was frustratingly not given a proper release for far too long.
It deserves to become a cult classic (in the best sense of the phrase) though as it's a very intelligently written new take on the zombie genre, something with a lot of genuinely fascinating ideas which are explored beautifully. Ultimately a horror film with a comedic edge, it has a lot of fun with it's concept, whilst still managing to pull off some truly horrible scenes. Yet it's also got a very strong emotional core, and certain moments are surprisingly tender and touching.
I won't say much more as part of the fun is seeing how the film develops, but ultimately I loved this and would really recommend it to any film fan - and not just those in to horror films.

Alright just to let it be known I'm not a frequent poster on IMDb BUT I absolutely had to exclaim how good this film is. I would def say its Boondock Saints with zombie like protagonists but its much more than that. Its got humor, gore, the ending is AMAZING and when a guy's living head is laying there trying to talk they have the most imaginative way of being able to understand what he's trying to say (my favorite part of the movie and you'll agree when you watch this!). If you've been gnawing at the bit to see this movie I can tell you you can find it on the net but for the love of god if you CAN buy it DO IT! Films like this really need your support! My rating for this movie is 9/10 The only reason I knocked it down a point is because of one of the actress' acting or lack there of. Shes a friend of the main characters and her acting skills are pretty horrific everyone else in the film are pretty convincing.
WATCH IT, BUY IT, RECOMMEND IT, POST IT, LINK IT, LIVE IT, BREATHE IT AND FOR GOD SAKES AT LEAST GIVE IT A CHANCE!

In Basra, Iraq, the American soldier Bart Gregory (David Anders) is ambushed and murdered by the locals. On the night after his funeral, he awakes in his grave and goes to the house of his best friend, the pothead Joey Luebner (Chris Wylde), who does not understand in what Bart has turned into. They unsuccessfully go to a hospital and at dawn, Bart faints and Joey calls his friend, the nurse Mathilda (Jacy King) to help him. They realize that Bart is a revenant, a combination of zombie and vampire, since he needs to drink blood to hold and recover the decomposition of his body. They decide to kill thieves, drug dealers and rapists to get their blood, drugs, weapons and money and they are called Vigilante Gunslingers by the press. One night, Joey is deadly wounded by a criminal and Bart turns him into a revenant. But when Bart's girlfriend Janet (Louise Griffiths) convinces him to turn her into a revenant, the friendship of Joey and Bart is affected.
"The Revenant" is an overrated, unpleasant, unfunny and not scary comedy. The movie is too long and the lead characters are unpleasant and gross. Most of the situations are neither funny as a comedy nor scary as horror. The hype around this movie can not be reasonably explained, unless the director has many friends. My vote is four.

It's sad to see a film with a fairly original concept executed so horribly. so many good idea's wasted on a half baked buddy 'comedy'. David Anders performance as Bart was very well done, as was Louise Griffiths as Janet. However Chris Wylde's performance as joey was extremely weak, frustrating and unnecessary. I felt his character let down the film the most. The effects were shockingly good in parts for the budget and its fair to say the ending of the film was refreshingly powerful. Overall though the film seemed fairly disconnected, the comedy and the drama didn't flow very well and the film just kind of Left me thinking how good it could have been if different directions were taken.
