The Pyramid is a refreshing take for horror movies because there hasn't been any "mummy horror-movie" since the late 50s, however, the movie was painful to watch. Why is it? No character development that resulted to viewers not caring about the characters since all the characters suffer from making idiotic and bad decisions that obviously resulted to their death! Even the trailer gives away too much because if you've seen the trailer, you've already seen the whole movie.
The CGI was horrible though it was forgivable, but to be honest, the movie could've really been better because it had an interesting premise. But even though I'm a fan of FOUND-FOOTAGE HORROR MOVIES, I was really disappointed because I thought that I was gonna like it since it felt like "As Above, So Below" which I really loved.
FINAL VERDICT: Not worth your time. 3/10. Better watch "As Above, So Below"

Dose anybody even remember this movie or is it just me, it's probably just me as nobody has brought up this movie after it's release and for very good reasons.
The story is about a U.S. archaeologists uncover a pyramid buried deep beneath the Egyptian desert. But as they explore deeper and deeper into the tomb, they become hopelessly lost in its dark catacombs and passages. Anxious for daylight, they try to escape - but they are not alone.
6% on RT, 24% on Metacritic, 5.1 on IMDb and the movie also flopped big time at the box office, yep this isn't going to be sit and watch and man I wasn't wrong because The Pyramid has to be the most painful horror movies to date.
Now is the movie scary? no actually the movie is rather dull and extremely boring. I think the reason the movie didn't build up to anything scary is because the writing felt lazy and the movies atmosphere was creepy or under the skin chilling, it was just flat out there and it wasn't effective enough to be scary. If you want a better horror movie with chilling atmosphere and a real build up then watch The Badadook, at least that movie got it right than this garbage film.
The directing, the acting, the way the movie is shot is all awful just awful. I couldn't find a single good thing in this movie, it was plan bad.

If movies like "The Ruin" and "Descent" appeal to you, you'll probably like this. The storyline isn't quite as top notch (not bad) as those I've mentioned but it was well filmed and acted. If we had had just maybe one more side plot going to keep me more engaged, I may have rated it higher but nevertheless it is a lot better than many other horror movies. It feels on par with another flick that released recently "As above, so Below". I'd rate both films about the same. I liked both of them and they both held my attention. There is something about crawling into some dark and incredibly old place where you face some potentially ancient evil that holds my attention. I'm of fan of these movies. If this subject appeals to you you'll probably enjoy watching it.

When making a horror movie you should always consider the history of all horror movies that have come before...if you don't..you'll make a bad movie and it will flop...One of the first things if are your characters annoying..the britsh accent on the camera guy drove me nuts,he sounded like a cartoon...the female reported was clearly British doing an American accent...why not just be British..? it works..Over the paceing was rushed made lines confusing first sign you in a bad movie....But it had some genuine scary moments and an interesting story line..Not to mention Ashley Hinshaw..whos worth watching in anything bad or good but thats me...this movie will likely flop and will make a good redbox movie night...when you get the green light to make a movie..consider all the horror films that came before you,the successful ones and the flops...and make a better movie

The Pyramid is a simple horror film that I never had high hopes for. Frankly, it was a film I didn't know much about a week before release. After watching a trailer, I thought it was good enough for a ticket. Then again I rarely miss the chance to watch a horror movie in theaters. The end result was a big mistake on my part. While there is a story here, the way it plays out is boring and there aren't any good scares in this film. The jump scare tactic is extreme in this film, which is another awful aspect. The following is my review of The Pyramid.
The film was written by Daniel Meersand and Nick Simon. Both worked on the 2010 thriller, Removal. With Simon having done a recent home video film with Bryan Cranston called Cold Comes the Night. The film follows a team of archaeologists as they search for and accidentally have to go inside a lost pyramid. As they get inside, the events take place that lead to bad happenings. The story is fairly simple, and one that has been molded from other stories like it. I can't say I hate the idea of the story, however the way it was executed by the director just wasn't good. The characters aren't that well written or developed either, but in a film like this, those aspects tend to be left out. Some development is required, but in this film it is more lousy than normal for a film in this genre. The writers deliver a good intended idea for this film, but by the end of the film, it has wrapped into a giant mess.
The film was directed by Grégory Levasseur who has never directed a film before. He did however help write the remake of The Hills Have Eyes back in 2006, and more recently wrote the film Maniac which is also a remake. For his first effort directing, the film doesn't look bad, but there are some found footage elements in this film. While the entire film is not your typical found footage, a great deal of it is, and most films in this sub-genre aren't good at all. As I mentioned above, this film is heavy with the jump scares and loud noise scares, which weren't much different. This aspect of the film hits hard towards the end of the film, and makes it almost unbearable. The acting lead by the most well known of all the actors Denis O'Hare, is typical for a film like this. Nothing great, and generally bad. However, O'Hare delivers a good performance and adds some nice comic relief here and there. The actors generally gel fairly well together, which helps the film in that regard. Overall though, Levasseur delivers a below average film, that is all but a found footage film.
The film was composed by Nima Fakhrara who has recently scored The Signal and The Courier. So, he generally composes direct to home video movies or very low budget films. I cannot honestly say the score in this film is bad. The score starts out dull and nothing special, but as the films picks up towards the end, it adds some nice depth. There are some good pieces of music in this film. While his effort is not perfect, I did generally like the score of this film.
While the entire film is not a waste, there are some good aspects, most viewers won't really enjoy this mess of a film. Hardcore horror genre fans like myself will try and see this film in the theaters if they can, but the general audience should probably stay away from this film, at least until home video.

While watching The Pyramid it become very clear that James Buckley can not on any earth play a dramatic role and I found it extremely funny to watch him try. This film was meant to be scary apart from the fact I found myself laughing at everything Jay Buckleys character said (I don't know if he was intended to be funny or not) I really didn't find this film that scary at all I expected it to more jumpy I found I only jumped around three times and for anyone who has seen as above so below it is very much similar to that which I didn't find very scary at all either. In The Pyramid you don't really get to know the characters that well to feel the emotion which is sort of a waste. I expected more of Denis O'hare but found him to be lifeless and not really come across likable in his portrayal of his character. Over all it's an OK film not anything special just something to watch.

In times of turbulence and confusion in Egypt, an American team of archaeologists is digging a three-side pyramid in the desert. The engineer Zahir (Amir K) sends his robot to explore the interior while the archaeologists Nora (Ashley Hinshaw) and her father Holden (Denis O'Hare); the video producer Sunni (Christa Nicola); and the cameraman Fitzie (James Buckley) record and analyze the image. However they have to leave the site due to the political instability but out of blue, the expensive robot vanishes inside the pyramid. Amir K convinces Corporal Shadid (Faycal Attougui) to give two hours for them to seek out the robot. When they are in the interior, the floor collapses and they fall 30 m down. Soon they learn that the place is a maze full of traps and a creature is hunting them down. Will they succeed to escape?
"The Pyramid" is a disappointing horror movie. The story is silly and unoriginal and does not hold the attention of the viewer. The performances are not convincing but acceptable, but the plot fails since the characters are not well developed and non-likable. The lighting and camera are very poor. The special effects are reasonable for a low- budget movie. My vote is four.

This is probably one the most underrated horror flicks in years.
Yes, there are many "found footage" or "shaking camera" movies, but none like this one. I mean, we have a bunch of ghosts and things like that in these movies. Spooky pyramids and ancient Egyptian mummies, yes, of course, the horror movie industry is full of those since the black & white era.
But this flick is not about that. I did not read any reviews or information about this movie before watching it and I must say I did not see it coming. A real life Anubis walking around and doing his routine trapped inside the pyramid? Hey! That's amazing! It's very original and entertaining!
You might bash the poor CGI or other filming issues, but, come on, it's one of the most fun to watch and atmospheric horrors in years!
Highly recommended for Ancient Egyptian horror fans!
