Not a bad movie that flew under the radar to waste 90 minutes of your day. It won't leave you with that not being able to get those 90 minutes back feeling. If you can't decide on anything else this is a good indecision movie to watch. John C Reilly never disappoints. Good cast with some surprise cameo from Jason Bateman who steals the scene during the employee team building. Just watch it. Decent movie. No award winning but as stated a decent way to waste 90 minutes.
For any old school Bears fans keep an eye out for Shaun Gayle's non-speaking cameo.
One thing this movie did was accurately portray Chicago as it actually is which is an unmanageable, crime riddled dump of a city that coddles, caters and rewards it's criminals.

This movie doesn't have much going for it. I wouldn't consider it entertaining. However it's one of those movies you leave on whenever you choose to lay in bed early on a Sunday and you're not paying too much attention. Has some surprising actors in it for the quality. Makes you want to know what happens at the end. But other than that......yeah....it's not a couch movie. It's a lay in bed not paying 100% attention lazy day type of movie movie.

Slow.......................Slow............ the film is very slow....... I love these sort of films usually, easy watching comedies. But I found myself forwarding through it as its so boring, I have not seen the whole film yet, but quite frankly, not overly bothered...hence writing this whilst it is on in the background! Whilst watching I noticed a fly on the ceiling, I actually found it more entertaining! Need I say no more! Such a shame as both lead actors in previous films they have starred in are great!! Right.... time to watch/fast forward through the rest of the film, I have sat through an hour of it, might swell see the rest! humph....

Seann Scott is Doug Stauber, a down on his luck middle management of a slack grocery store. When Richard Wehlner, (John C. Reilly) arrives just in time for a new grocery location to open, the two characters compete for "The Promotion." The characters are supposed to be lacking backbone, but halfway through the movie I kept thinking to myself, why do I care about these characters? There's nothing to them other than their lack of confidence. The comedy was sporadic but occasional funny. The last act seemed to run out of steam and just end. Overall it's passable but not much more.

I saw this movie last night. I expect more from Sean William Scott's comedies. This isn't one of his best. Not a bad movie with a few laughs, but i think i only need to see it once. The storyline is different to any other movie i have seen. The movie almost gets out of first gear, but not quite. Its definitely not as funny as some of his other movies such as American Pie and Welcome to the Jungle. I have been use to hilariously great movies from SWS, i hope this backwards step isn't going to be an ongoing feature of his films. Next on my hit list to see is Balls Out. I am not sure what to expect now. The Promotion is good viewing, but not vital viewing.

There was just enough comedy to keep me watching.
Keep in mind that this is an older comedy, so if you are expecting someone to put their balls on someone's drum set, this movie is a bit tamer than that.

There most be a lot of comedy on the cutting room floor because there ain't none in this painfully dull comedy.

This movie has quality comedy actors - John C Reilly, Jason Bateman, and Jenna Fisher - in their prime. So why did they agree to such a dismal script? I'm convinced this was made while the cast was held hostage.
Disjointed and lacking in any form of story arc, a cishet white male expects to be rewarded with a promotion for not resolving the community conflict under his direct jurisdiction. He appears to have the minor revelation that he isn't perfect and may have been at fault for some negative interactions, which is apparently enough for a triumphant finish. Minor characters with unique personality are sidelined in favour of rambling voiceovers and repetitive scenes. Ultimately a massive waste of time and talent.

Is this a comedy or a drama? Neither, it fails as both.
It is poorly edited which means that its 85 minute running time was 20 minutes too long. The lead characters are unsympathetic (just like many of the other characters). The acting is poor. (Was that supposed to be a Canadian accent? Or worse, a Quebec accent?) There's so much contrived dialogue that when good dialogue comes around, you're too irritated to appreciate it. The same goes for the laughs: not much is funny anymore when you're mad at yourself for not stopping the movie earlier.
I did laugh a couple times, but the movie was overall a painful experience. Good premise, poor execution.
