"Best friends shouldn't have to make time for each other". Uh-oh, cray cray BFF alert. That's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the lack of magnanimity in 2023's The Pregnancy Promise. Heck, it seems everyone in this Lifetime-r is a little rattled if not perturbed. Resentful dads, alcoholic moms, self-prophetic female teens, snobby cheerleaders, mayors oh my!
Rounding out at just under 90 minutes and feeling like the ultimate whodunit when it comes social media shaming and Mayberry mayhem, The Pregnancy Promise is about two besties who make a pact to get preggo at the same time. The problem? Well one of them wanted to wait for early adulthood and the other um, didn't. Birth control switcheroo in flashback form perhaps? Maybe. You'll just have to On Demand it to find out.
Starring Macy Jacob, Amy Gamper, and Alexandra Swanbeck, "Promise" lives in a world where condoms obviously don't exist, high school-er(s) are abnormally catty, the courting process is futile, and "buns in the oven" just happen right out of thin air. Everything in "Promise", well it feels a little off-topic, swayed by plot mechanics, and convenient. Otherwise there'd be no movie legs to stand on.
That's not to say that The Pregnancy Promise doesn't have some effective moments because it does. You just have to get past the unwitting of it all. I mean if you're into the crux of creepy manipulation and suburbia purgatory via the Lifetime network, you'll get a full helping here. Not only is "Promise" about what it's about (check the title) but it's also a kidnapping/extortion pic too. High school aerial shots, easily steered character types, middling to theatrical acting, concluding antagonist revealing, it's so Lifetime! I just wish the journey here wasn't so expedient to get through. Breaches of "promise".

Lucy (Macy Jacob) is the secondary protagonist/redeemed villainess from the 2023 Lifetime film, The Pregnancy Promise (airdate May 11, 2023).
Lucy is the best friend of main protagonist Skye Simmons, with the film establishing that she spends a lot of time with the Simmons family, mainly to get away from her mother, Tracey. In addition, Lucy was also in a relationship with Skye's brother, Aaron Simmons, and it resulted in Lucy becoming pregnant with his child. Skye later became pregnant after a tryst with her boyfriend, Jake Dawson, leaving Lucy pleased that she and her best friend would be pregnant together. However, Skye would be subjected from cyberbullying and harassment at school, with Lucy suspecting the school's head cheerleader, Brooke, of being the culprit.
In a stunning surprise, Jake's search for the IP address behind the messages led to Skye discovering that the culprit behind the cyberbullying was none other than Lucy. A confrontation with Lucy at her house ended up revealing everything; Lucy had been focused on wanting to spend more time with Skye after their high school graduation, though Skye was planning to go off to college, while Tracey was forcing Lucy to go to work after graduation. After becoming pregnant herself, Lucy turned heel by sabotaging Skye's birth control pills, doing so by replacing them with her mother's pills, which resulted in Skye's pregnancy. In addition, Lucy sent the bullying messages as part of her twisted plan to increase their bond as pregnant teens.
Lucy confessed to the sabotage and the bullying messages, admitting to planning their pregnancies and voicing her desire to be with Skye, who later accused her of the harassment towards her family--which had been occurring throughout most of the film. Lucy denied harassing Skye's family, and despite their friendship suffering due to Lucy's revelation, it was repaired in the film's climax when Skye was suddenly abducted, and found Lucy tied up in the same place. The climax revealed that Tracey committed the abductions, as she had been planning to blackmail the Simmons family out of jealousy over Lucy's adoration for them, with Lucy revealing Tracey's heel turn to Skye. The fully redeemed Lucy, after being freed by Jake and Diane Simmons (along with Skye), confronted Tracey and managed to talk her down from attempting to kill Diane, and the film ended with Lucy giving birth to a baby girl, named Emma.

This movie is the best of its genre. It is really captivating and fun to watch. The depth of the characters is well thought through, especially that of Aaron. I really enjoyed watching and the ending!! Wow. You can watch this movie with your family and everyone will be sure to love it. It was a great length and I was never bored while watching. I was also not able to predict everything that was going to happen. There was a lot of mystery and plot twists that I didn't see coming. Though I would suggest that you don't watch the full trailer, it shows too much in my opinion. I definitely recommend checking this movie out.

There were more melodramatic confrontations in this film than would exist in a heated argument between a Democrat and a Republican. It was remarkable that the filmmakers were able to bring things around to a celebration of having babies.
Skye Simmons and her bestie Lucy make a promise to one another to become pregnant at the same time. And, almost instantly, both become pregnant! Most of the film is the highly charged drama of the harassment of Skye and her family members. The whodunnit side of the film is to guess who is doing the harassing.
It seemed inconceivable that Skye and Lucy would become the objects of derision at their high school. In an era where teen pregnancy is not that uncommon, the hazing that the two young women experienced at school stretched credibility.
There was a clear juxtaposition between the loving Simmons family and the neglect that young Lucy was receiving at home. Lucy's mother Tracey had a problem with alcohol, and it was not a healthy environment for Lucy. This helps to explain Lucy's fixation on bonding with her bestie in the dual pregnancies.
The film's denouement suggested that, thankfully, someone was finally getting the help that they needed. That made it possible for a grand welcoming of two little creatures into the world. The film was well photographed with an extremely competent cast. Every viewer will have a different favorite. Some may feel that the Skye is the limit. But I love Lucy.
