I enjoyed it more than i thought i would! Probably because i went in, expecting a total disaster! I'm happy that it wasn't but to be honest, this movie isn't THE BEST representation of Iranians, but it's a start! I see a lot of people talking about the first dance scene and how it's not an Iranian dance, but i think it was not supposed to be. I personally was more concerned about the architecture of houses in Iran in this film, but they made this film in the US, i guess it was as good as they could do it. Actors' performances were a little off, at least to me, but the casting, specifically the young versions of the main characters were right on! The story could do a little more grooming in my opinion; there were a lot of unnecessary things that they talked about and a lot more important things that they didn't. All in all, i am so happy that this movie was made, i think it's a start for the new generation of Iranian filmmakers to show the world what has had happened to us in the last 45 years, because they don't believe the things we say to them easily, they think we're making them up!

I expected more comedy scenes and some good laughs it had some fine representation of the Persian culture but the whole scenario was lame. The trailer spoiled the jokes and the movie was just a hurtful drama. I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected. I quite enjoyed this intergenerational story of an Iranian immigrant family trying to piece together their versions of the American dream and the misunderstandings that happen in between. It is essentially about the uneasy relationship between a mother and daughter; the rest of it often feels like informational dumps on Iranian culture (and heritage), but told through a lighter lens. Even in that regard, the film is fairly fun because it's either showing us vibrant frames, tackling a particular emotion, or making us chuckle. Some of it feels like flab, especially the scandal part of the mother's backstory, and it ideally should've gotten better treatment at the edit desk. It makes all the sense in the world to appreciate certain performances, especially those of Niousha Noor, Chiara Stella, and Layla Mohammadi. While the two distinct labor room scenes have their significance plotwise, I wondered if there was any other way to put the same emotional messaging across, without them feeling repetitive. The second one comes off a beautiful moment of reconciliation indeed, and that's one reason why I wouldn't dive too deep into it. Also, the fourth-wall-breaking moments go just a tad too far. Regardless of however you perceive all of it, there's some fun to be had!

There are so many beautiful surprises in this film. I enjoyed learning from a community that Americans can't travel to and explore. The set-design, colorful costume and delicious culinary arts are satisfying. From the trailer, I thought this film was going to be more comical similar to: My Big Fat Great Greek Wedding by Nia Vardalos. However, there was much more pain and struggle in this story. To me, this was more about the transformation of a loving, caring Persian family into an American nuclear family. There was some comedy in the story, but I would not identify this film in the comedy genre. This is a good romance drama.

Me and my family loved this film! As a first generation American with a big family and MANY interpersonal relationships that are informed by cultural influence and nuance, this really hit home. Without alienating anyone, Keshavarz managed to create space for SO many of us to see ourselves in the actors and the stories. Even as a male, I could understand and relate to the events and story as it describes the human experience with regard to family dynamics so well. Fun and funny AND poignant and emotional ALL with some fun throwbacks to the 80's. Excited to hear more from this director as it's clear her talent runs deep!

The writer may have been away from Iran for so long that she's forgotten the actual Iranian life. The movie is called The Persian Version, so I expected it to be relatable to the average Iranian immigrant, but it was not. The depiction of the family's life back in Iran is inaccurate, and the dancing scenes imitate Indian movies. The Iranian houses in the movie are not what typical Iranian houses look like. Their family of 9 is much larger than a classic Iranian family. Even the extent of their belief in religion and the savior did not reflect common religious Iranian beliefs. For all these reasons I felt a disconnect throughout the movie. The idea for the movie was great, but I wish they would've worked more on their writing and accuracy.

Recently watched the movie and I must say, it was an incredible experience. The storyline was gripping from start to finish, and the characters were well-developed and relatable. The Persian music was also a standout feature, perfectly complementing the various scenes and adding to the emotional impact of the story. The cinematography was also impressive, with beautiful visuals and stunning special effects that added to the overall impact of the movie. Overall, I would highly recommend this movie to anyone looking for a thrilling and entertaining cinematic experience. It has all the elements of a great movie - engaging story, talented cast, stunning visuals, and an impressive soundtrack. It's definitely one of the best movies I've seen this year.

I waited for almost six months for this film to be publicly released so I could watch it, and I confidently say it was the best movie made after the ominous 1978 Revolution. As an Iranian, while watching this film, I completely felt the culture, customs, and traditions of Iranians portrayed in the best way by the director. Even though the filming did not take place in Iran, the settings, costumes, and the way characters spoke were natural and excellent (which was expected due to the Iranian context). However, what really intrigued me was the precise depiction of the mother-daughter struggles that made the audience deeply empathize, alongside humorous scenes that intensified these emotions even more. In my opinion, the Iranian families' sense of humor was brilliantly captured in the movie, and the cinematography team and director portrayed scenes from the old era very close to reality. Truly, it was the best Iranian film made after the 1978 Revolution, and I never felt like I was watching an Iranian-American film because everything was distinctly Iranian. The actors were all superb, and the dance scene at the wedding was absolutely magnificent. The only flaw I noticed in this film was a few mass dance scenes that resembled Indian dances and didn't feel Iranian. However, overall, this movie rates above 9.5 compared to all Iranian films ever made. Its rating in the global cinema, in my opinion, could be between seven and a half to eight. Great job, Mrs. Kashavarz, well done! 💚"

How refreshing to see a film by Iranian-American Artists!!! I loved how the film spanned over three generations: from the small country village of the grandmother, to the American city of the newly arrived immigrant mother, and finally, the modern day American culture of the granddaughter. The film hits hard at first with a look at the youngest of the three females, whose lifestyle is difficult for her mother to swallow. Interestingly the grandmother, perhaps having grown more accepting and wiser over the years, has a closer connection to her granddaughter. As the story progresses, the youngest learns the background story of her mother, who it turns out, is probably the biggest heroine of the three, despite her stoic demeanor. The end of this movie had me in tears. It was a wonderful, moving narrative about culture, realized and unrealized dreams, fortitude, family, judgement, and most importantly, LOVE.
