I did not really know what to expect from this kid's flick and was pleasantly surprised. Don't let the term 'magical rabbit' turn you away from this film. It is not as hokey as it sounds. If you enjoy elements of mysticism à la "Da Vinci Code", or sci-fi à la "Contact", you will probably get a kick out of this film. Set in the here and now, it also throws in a bit what is scary about our government today. Toss in a wee bit of eye candy and wrap it up nicely at the end, and you have yourself a very satisfying movie experience. This 40-something kid found it exceptional.

Between all the dark and negative movies these days, this movie was really enjoyable for the family. A nice and simple to follow sci-fi story that is pleasant to watch even for the smaller ones in the family. No curse words, no dead bodies, no drugs... easy to enjoy.

I just saw this in a sneak peek this weekend. If you thought (like I did) that this was going to be a good fantasy/sci-fi for the kids - Don't Go! This is not a movie for the kids. Any kid 10 or under will be bored out of their mind. I can't believe that they would market this movie towards kids. In fact I'm not even sure what the demographic for this movie would be. If you are into the whole global warming/pollution/etc then wait until it is out on DVD. Otherwise don't even waste you time on this piece of junk. I was so disappointed that I even thought of asking for my money back. This was the first time I have gone to a movie in over a year and now I know why I just wait for the DVDs to come out.

I was really surprised that this movie only had a 6.7 rating. It is a really clever movie with a lot of novel ideas. The combination of different cultures all having a small role in a bigger picture was nothing new, but the way it was done was great I thought. The kids acting was pretty good, not as good as others have said, some of the acting, especially at the end, was not so believable. But overall the movie was great in my mind. Of course I knew nothing of the book and had not even seen a single review of the movie before I watched it, so that might have helped avoiding some of the other opinions. Then again I have never read Harry Potter and I love the movies, since I don't know what I am missing.

My comment's a little offbeat... In this day of strange localisation retitling, changing scripts, etc. I wonder, when they changed the s in Mimsy to a z, why they didn't change the title for the UK release. Simple reason is that Mimsy is slang in the UK for a lady's genitalia (no, I'm not saying this to be insulting - it's true). Although it's more regional, i.e. the North who use this slang word, I still cannot believe that the localisation team never realised what a glaring no-no this is. Strange...

No need to repeat the comments of everyone else. It is a very charming cautionary tale about the future of the Human race. Photography is beautiful with scenes of Seattle that is rarely seen. I wonder how many days it took to shoot this while waiting on clear days? I liked the movie very much and would have given it a higher rating if it the sound had been edited better and the disc had captions. I am hard of hearing and am sick to death of movies that have poorly edited sound. I.E. background music louder than the dialog. With the dialog being impossible to understand one would think that New Line would have made captions or subtitles available on the disc. My wife is not hard of hearing and had trouble understanding quite a bit of the dialog.

Delightful little fantasy/sci-fi movie with two precocious kids in the all dominating lead. Some fairly advanced teachers that definitely doesn't talk down to the children and a prototypical white upper middle class family complete with overworked dad, stay at home mom and happiness seemingly a given. The kids 11+6 I would guess, find a strange artifact on the beach and start developing skills and a sense of the world around them not usually found in kids these days :-) From there we get a look into Buddhism, nanotechnology, wormholes, a little environment lesson and other stuff not found in many family movies that are usually so stupid it would make you barf... If you can look past product placements that are rampant throughout, then this is one of the better family movies almost on par with E.T.
