The Keeper

As Steven Seagal is no longer in his prime, so is the character he portrays in The Keeper. Some things haven't changed of course, No matter what name he goes by, he is still the same butt kicking rogue he has always portrayed, with the facial expression of a Maori Head. The plot seems kind of pointless, but then again that is the least of worries in a Seagal film. He is recruited from California to help a wealthy ex-cop and an old friend who lives in Texas, and is in need of a body guard for his daughter. She has been kidnapped by some business rivals. The first question we ask is why, turn to Seagal. Strangely enough, the character asks that very question in one scene. The answer he gets makes little sense. So this is the first of a few things that needs to be fixed in The Keeper. There is also the matter of Seagal's acting, which was never very good to begin with, but now, at his present age of fifty something, is sounds like he is struggling to even get words out, let alone deliver lines. Unless you have a good speaker system, you may have to turn the volume way up to hear. the climax was okay, but the ending is terrible, almost non existent, another couple minutes would have been nice. Quite frankly though, I don't care that much. The fact that Seagal can still hold my attention despite the fact that he's losing it, must count for something. I still have many to see, but from those I have, I'd say this is about average, maybe a little less.

This is definitely his cheesiest movie to date. And for a Steven Seagal movie, that says a lot. To even compare this to "The Professional" or "Man on Fire" is a complete joke. Not even in the same school, let alone the same class. The budget couldn't have been more than a couple hundred bucks, and the acting was deplorable. I mean, Seagal's "acting" has always sucked. His furrowed brow, tough talking, best at everything kind of persona is a little tired now. But in this movie, he was the best actor. Sad isn't it? The amount of mistakes that were made in the editing is quite funny though. So if you have a couple of hours to waste, like I did (apparently), then watch it as a comedic action flick. I give it a two, only because Seagal still moves okay, for an old guy.

I've been a Steven Seagal fan for a while. Actually I really like old style action movies and Steven is one of the best actors in this genre. So I was very happy when I realized that The Keeper is out. I had to get my hands on it asap. Of course now a days you'll have to be afraid of what you'll get when you'll watch a Steven Seagal movie. The quality has dropped from the old days. I think everyone knows that. Well I watched this new and long waited Seagal film. I'll keep this comment short but first let me base my opinion. I think that there are many kind of good movies and one type is a good action. And by action I mean action. When I want to watch an action film I want action. That's it! Nowadays there are lots of so called "action films" but many times the makers have concentrated too heavily on the blot.... And what is that. A good action movie needs to be very very entertaining and those complicated blots are some times in the way... I think. When I wan't to see a good action film it really doesn't need to have a good blot. All it needs is an actor with charisma and some kick ass action in it! So... The Keeper. To keep it short. Delivers this. Seagal really is like in the old days. A kick ass ex cop with a personal charisma to blow up walls. And that's it. The fighting scenes are made quite nicely and they are nice and brutal enough. There could be more of them tough. The Keeper brings us a movie that suits very well for people like me. People who enjoy watching action movies with bones crunching and people getting beaten up by Steven Seagal! I really enjoyed this movie.. so 9/10

And so Steven Seagal continues his prolific career in straight-to-video product with THE KEEPER, another film completely indistinguishable from the dozens he's made since evacuating our cinema screens back in the 1990s. It's a completely serviceable movie that plays out as a string of action sequences well executed but completely unmemorable; there are scenes of Seagal fighting in hand-to-hand combat with bad guys, disarming bad guys and engaging in shoot-outs with bad guys. The plot is weak and the script limited; essentially, this is one of those action-star-as-bodyguard movies featuring our hero risking his life to save a young woman from the clutches of kidnappers. The good things? The film is ably directed and the fight sequences short, snappy and well-handled. Seagal is pretty poor, it has to be said, and there's still far too much distraction from his copious use of doubles (not content with a mere body double in the fight sequences, he now employs a hair double for back-of-the-head shots). Thankfully his voice is only dubbed in the opening scene, which is something. The unfamiliar supporting cast is very bland with the notable exception of Liezl Carstens, who I found quite smouldering as the sultry young damsel-in-distress; if ever an actress could pull off the unconvincing romantic scenes involving her and Seagal's character, it would be her.

Am a huge fan of Seagal, my father and I are both huge fans of him and we both love his movies. I also seen some of his new movies some are bad some are good, but this one is the worst one of all! This movies is waste of money and time! Seagal you own me 94.min of my time! This movie of yours is real disappointment!! This is Keoni Waxman's movie and is really awful! He's other movie's A Dangerous Man and Hunt To Kill are one of his best one so far,but this on is a big disappointment for all Seagal fans! When the movie begins it supposed to be an awesome action movie with a great story line. After Roland Sallinger an L.A. cop nearly gets killed by his greedy partner Trevor and then goes to hospital. His partner Trevor shows up and try to kill Sallinger and get's killed by Sallinger himself in my story Trevor shouldn't showed up in Hospital to kill Sallinger, he should gave out his statement what happened: quit the force after his partner was shot and wounded and would have flies with the money he stole from drug dealers. Sallinger recovers his attack after one year later his being forced to retire for medical reasons and get's contact from his best friend he flees to San Antonio, Texas,after being asked for his help to work as a bodyguard for the daughter of a wealthy businessman his best friend. When mobsters set up and kidnap Nikita, Roland goes after them and find's out that his ex greedy partner works for a big shot mobster like Cross. After he run out of money he started working for big shot's like Cross. At the end of the movie it supposed to be a great showdown between mobsters and Trevor like on some car yard during daylight but no! Sallinger should get his revenge and justice on Trevor for betraying him , but no! Then Nikita's boyfriend "Mason Silver" what is his story? He supposed be a great boxer but, instead he was a chicken and mean selfish person whole entire movie. He was a drug addicted and he treated Nikita low. He lied that he loved her, when he didn't he set her up and betrayed her, mostly because of his greed for money. At the end of the movie he should die, Seagal should kill him but he didn't! The real Nikita's boyfriend Mason should might be a loser, but he should show his boxing skills and been a Seagal's sidekick! Not some retarded loser!! Then what's was wrong with this music in this picture? Some dumb Mexican awful old music. The story was in America not Mexico! This movie is really awful. So am giving this movie 1 out of 10. Watch: Today You Die and A Dangerous Man instead stay away from this movie. Oh and one last thing: the acting was bad, the dialog was bad and the fighting scene were awful bad. Seegal you disappointed me in your Aikido style.

Were you expecting Casablanca? I have read people saying it's preposterous to compare this movie to Man on Fire, but since the plot lines are very similar... bodyguard getting his charge back from kidnappers... I don't think it's too far of a stretch. If anyone is looking for a movie to watch that does not require a lot of thought and you are willing to suspend reality for a couple of hours, this movie is for you... if you are looking for the next The Godfather or Schindler's List... this movie is not what you are looking for. I think some people take themselves WAY too seriously on here... Just for the record, Seagal may be getting on in years, but his movies are still fun and entertaining.

Steven Seagal has made several crappy movies in the past years, but with this movie, he makes his ultimate come back. All the fight scenes are done by himself and the story of the movie is better than a common Seagal movie. The acting work of every actor in this movie is pretty decent and sometimes even great! That's not what you would expect of a common Seagal film. If you liked the movies: Driven to Kill (a.k.a. Ruslan), Urban Justice and Pistol Whipped, you should certainly give this movie a try. 9 out of 10 stars.

There was nothing of much interest on TV a couple of nights ago so I stumbled onto this one. I used to like Steven Seagal when he still made "real" movies so I thought, what the heck, let's watch it. I cannot say that my hopes were high though. After he started to spew out direct to DVD movies he have made some real crap ones. I have to say that I was somewhat positively surprised. Sure it is not exactly Oscars material but it is a decent enough TV-movie and Seagal was pretty okay in playing the fairly silent but deadly ex-commando, or in this case ex-cop, that I personally want to see him as. Some people complain that he doesn't care and that he mumbles his dialog. I cannot say that I agree. He played his role as I would have expected. His silent manner, low voice and absence of emotions and outbreaks is what I hope for when I watch a Seagal movie. Also, the fighting in this movie was fairly okay compared to some of his movies where he seemed to be so out of shape that he just stood around and flapped his arms. The story? Well pretty standard meh TV-quality bad guy tries to muscle in and extort the good guy. Good guy has daughter. Good guy's daughter gets kidnapped. The hero moves in and saves the day. Nothing really innovative and fantastic but good enough to serve as an excuse for some on-screen action and reasonably well implemented. Not really a bad movie. Of course not really anything more than you would expect from a direct to DVD movie but not bad either and, as I said, way better than some of the crap Seagal have produced.

I just saw the Keeper and I agree with may of the reviews here that this is one of Steve's better pictures of the last few years. Having said that, I must also observe that those who disparage the acting of Seagal and his co-stars would not know good acting if it walked up and bit them.......Granted he is not a great actor, maybe not even a good one, but he is a decent actor capable of displaying and selling humor when it is called for. THAT is a sign of an actor who knows what he is doing.....as the old actor said on his death bed "Dying is easy, it's comedy that's hard."....and truer words were never spoken. All of those in this picture who delivered lines did so on an acceptable level...Academy Award performances they are not, but if you think this is bad acting....you have not been around much.

From about 2002 to 2005 Seagal was really not very good at picking movies. Or maybe those he made were the only ones offered to him. Lately though, his pictures are getting better and better with each one. The last ones like Against the Dark, Kill Switch and Driven to kill were all pretty good movies. This latest one might have even made it into theaters if Seagal Movies didn't retain a certain distrust from the audience. As for the Plot: Seagal plays a Cop who is betrayed and shot by his partner, but survives. Soon after he is discharged from the force due to medical complications. Moments after getting the dismissal notice he receives a Call from an old friend of his who is now a rich property owner in Texas begging him to help him out with a big security problem. His daughter was recently the victim of a kidnapping attempt and he begs Seagal to look after her. Of course the noble knight can't refuse a plea from an old friend. Well long story short he travels there fights a lot of bad guys, kills a bunch of them and the whole process of doing so looks really great. Of course this Movie can't keep up with $100 Million Productions but it can easily keep up with such movies as "War" or the "Transporter"-Movies. For Seagal Fans this should be a no brainer and for fans of decent action flicks you might wanna try it.
