I am in absolute disbelief that there is a single soul on earth who enjoyed this absolutely wretched movie. What in the hell went bump in the night? What are they talking about!?

NY Times review: "...film adaptation...acquires a supernatural sheen..." and mentions a "haunted house."
IMDB: "As darkness falls...mysterious things start to go bump in the night..."
Showtime: "Eerie things things go bump in the night..."
So sue me if I expected a...horror film! I've never seen such misleading reviews.
But...getting past that, this very small film is almost anti-supernatural, so realistic are the themes and performances. Very awkward moments of family dysfunction. Repression on steroids. And often, genuinely affecting.
One of the best films among the many I've seen this year and, sadly, not the kind we see much of anymore. Slow, minimalistic, artsy. Something to be thankful for indeed.

I was looking forward to this. I was expecting to see something thought provoking, perhaps insightful, hopefully intriguing and definitely interesting and yet none of those things occur. Well, it is a bit interesting to begin with, but it leads to absolutely nothing other than realistic dialogue about a terribly depressing family that ends with no resolve at all. By far the most interesting entity in this dreary thing is the old NYC apartment that it takes place in. I give credit.to.writer/director Karam for his direction of what almost seems like it's going to turn into a really creep horror film, but sadly it does not do that either. The cast is accomplished, but all surprisingly lack interest as well. The atmosphere is the star here.

This movie has all of the ingredients of a great horror or mystery. But it I just don't know how to categorize this film. Great performances from the cast, the set is brilliant but absolutely nothing happens. It is just dialogue and all of the scary noises and clever camera work result in nothing. I will not give it bad score because the cast is great, but it is a waste of my time.

I'm all for going against the "mainstream" every once in awhile if it's good. I can appreciate movies that some refer to as (thought provoking) Indie films. That's cool, but this ain't it. Maybe I'm not "gettin" it, but good god is this one hell of a bore. All I can say is bring a pillow.

The director deliberately keeps us at a distance from the characters. We watch seemingly every scene from the opposite end of a hallway or from the next room. It's almost as if the director just didn't want to bother shooting any coverage. Every scene is just a single (badly framed) master shot. The dialogue is difficult to hear. And very little happens. Maybe this works as a play. It doesn't work as a movie. And the filming style certainly didn't help.

Horribly slow, drab, dark film about nothing. Halfway through I gave up as I was literally falling asleep. Read other reviews and it looks like I didn't miss a thing. Maybe I'll try and finish it later and update my review, but I'm betting I won't have to.

I was expecting something different. Maybe something big to happen but it was just slow paced family drama to the end. I feel like there should have been more of a spooky factor to it to make it more interesting. Like maybe there is no lady upstairs O_o Also, I don't know why people are whining about Amy when I feel she barely had any time in the movie or was such a presence to even remember her. And that person commenting on her weight "I hope this doesn't sound mean". Grow up. It's not that hard to think of a more substantial insult other than "hurr durr fat person". But these reviews are about the movie, right?
