Hopkins hasn't been this interesting in years, while Kidman's amazing portrayal is merely the latest in her current winning streak.

Like so many artsy fartsy I want you to watch this for it's slow paced crap movie, this film subscribes to the idea that any old bs that you feed up to a pseudo intellectual audience will be absorbed in the same way that any action crap flick that you feed to the opposite dimension will work. This film is DULL. DULL DULL DULL. Anthony Hopkins and Nicole Kidman can't save this yawn and ED Harris delivers a stereotype of a Mr Criminal ex-lover/bf/husband despite labouring the opposite. This is rubbish disguised thinly as art. Thank god for Twin Peaks!

Quite an interesting movie. Anyone not from the '40s, '50s, or '60s probably can't relate to the degree of prejudice that existed at that time. Silk was the first "jew" admitted to a classics professorship -- imagine if he had lived the life of a black man! He wouldn't have been hired, and the school wouldn't have seen the improvement he brought to it. All the characters do great jobs in their roles. Nicole Kidmann continues to be one of the best actresses around, and Anthony Hopkins does a superb job. Who cares about the accent. This is the kind of movie that a group can watch and then sit around for hours to discuss. Wonderful job!

I don't get the bad reviews. I think this is a very touching story, tought provoking and beautifuly shot. Nicole Kidman and Wentworth Miller did a great job, stood out from the rest and carried the movie in my opinion (ofcourse Hopkins is a legend). It's not an action movie, the pace is a bit slower but somehow kept me glued to the screen. The only downfall for me is that at the end the entire movie somehow felt a bit rushed, i think if they added just a few more scenes it would have been perfect. Definitely worth a watch, i do not regret the minutes spent. 8/10 from me

This story was packaged as a Nicole Kidman movie. The television previews and the movie's box cover show nothing but Nicole Kidman. While this movie had to do with a life long secret, the issue of race and identity, the studio advertised the movie as something of a seductive and thriller like story with Nicole Kidman as the seductive woman. The studios failed to promote Hopkins and Harris for being apart of the story. While Gary Sinise was the narrative and a strong supporting character the movie, he too was not mentioned. The Human Stain is a bad title for what was a good movie. The story, the acting, the setting and the actors were great. The title alone puts a different taste in people's mouths when deciding what kind of movie they want to go see. When people think of a Human Stain, don't get me wrong, but don't most people think about a stain in there pants? With a better title, I believe this movie could have been nominated for an Academy Award for best picture.

I missed this during it's theatrical release, writing it off as some lame attempt at a good movie. I was sorely mistaken. True, this film is not perfect but it is a good movie. Hopkins plays Coleman, a Classics professor who quits his job and loses his wife and Kidman is Faunia, his troubled, much younger love interest. The unlikely paring of these two characters makes you wonder what they see in each other but as the story unfolds and we learn more about both of their lives, we begin to see that they connect in a very deep, meaningful way. They both share some very heartbreaking histories which allow them to communicate and understand each other in a way no one else can. This is an amazing film with some gorgeous cinematography and some really outstanding acting - a truly great paring of two outstanding actors. 9/10 for an outstanding, touching film
