First: I really enjoyed this movie. I love sci-fy and when it gets to be combined with a story of fully dynamic characters that show the heart of being what we would call human is deeper than being a homo sapien. An engaging plot riddled with surprising moments that showed me where I have room to grow in expanding my own understanding of how our differences are much less important that our similarities. Second: This is one of those movies that can best be appreciated by someone who enjoys the trailer. The movie is as advertised and from the heart. If you want to hold it to the public lens of what most people think is good then continue to read reviews written by people paid to write them for that general public. If you are less interested in an Oscar nomination and more interested in a store that speaks in your heart, then you probably shouldn't care about the TomatoMeter so much. Enjoy it if you thought you would before you looked up it's rating, you still will.

While I agree that the book was better (big fan of it!!!) I have to say the movie was really good. Saoirse Ronan's acting was amazing along with Max Iron's and Jake Abel's. The plot was good and wasn't as predictable as most science fiction movies/ books out there today. Even if you don't go see the movie at the cinemas, get it out of the movie store! You will not regret it. I do wish Ian was a lot hotter though! In the book he sounded amazing! I did wish they added some more scenes from the book though. :D I am generally not a fan of Stephanie Meyer (especially after Twilight!) but my sister told me to read the book and I'm kind of obsessed... I hope Stephanie will write more decent books. By the way, what is with the Seekers dressing in white? In the book they were wearing black... what is the point of the change?

It can be old but it is still good movie , it focused on deferent type alien race and deferent kind of invasion, not the typical plot that contain alien gunships and wars . this film provide true difference wtch we required in this decade i think this movie deserves more .

This movie is designed for a specific group of people, tween to teenage girls. If you're looking for a bad ass, action packed movie with an ass kicking female protagonist, this IS NOT it. That's the only reason I went to see this, because the trailer actually looked pretty good. Save yourself some money and just watch the trailer, I would rate that a 7/8. The biggest dilemma in the whole movie is whether she should kiss someone or not. You can completely see the Bella in her. So if you're a guy or girl that likes intellectual, action movies where romanticism comes second, don't see this movie. It's a complete waste of time and money, designed for teenage girls during that time of the month.

I wonder who makes these low reviews - clearly not Sci Fi fans as this film is a wonderful contribution to the genre. This is a beautiful creative film based on a great and book by Stephenie Meyer with a very unique on the alien issue. The adaptation is a very worthy one with the actors portrayals blending nicely with the book characters. A talented young cast are complimented by charismatic veterans. The cinematography is superb and the imagination in production superior. Overall a wonderful memorable experience.
