The incessant soundtrack drowns out most of the dialogue. Otherwise, it might have been a better movie. I can't believe someone didn't catch this when mixing. The characters are all cute and believable, but the music just drones on and on and ruins the movie. Maybe someone will remix it so we can hear it. As for the rest of the review, this is just filler to hit my 500 character minimum. I had a normal life. Born and raised in a small town in Arkansas to two normal parents. Yes, I knew my parents, and I'm not ashamed tot admit it. My normal siblings all knew them too! So you can see, this paragraph is meaningless.

Luke Perry stops to help a stranded motorist on New Year's Eve and they get to talking about how back in his youth when his role is played by Alex Shaffer he goes out in search of his birth mother reputed to hang around a 24 hour diner called The Griddle House. When there Shaffer meets some interesting, interacts with some drama with other people there as the clock ticks the year away. Nothing really more to say. William Saroyan's great play The Time Of Your Life seems to have been the inspiration for this film. But in execution it falls woefully short. An interesting try though.

I do not understand the "over the top" criticism of this movie. So many movies are preachy and insulting high budget nonsense directed toward the adolescent minds that exist in all age groups. I do not think there is a movie that I could not critique in a negative way but in this movie I did like the acting and I did like the various story lines and I did like way the stories came together at the end. I liked the messaging. No matter who you are or what you've done, it is possible in a place you least expect and at a time you least expect to find a way to be a better person. This movie was filled with kind caring people that helped each other. How can that be criticized so harshly.

Jack (Luke Perry /Alex Shaffer) stops to help a stranger with car trouble and witnesses to him about his search for his birth mother. He knows she hangs out at the Griddle House. Here we discover some unique characters that are grossly sweet. Jack has three women who could be his mother as he asks questions about their life. Mae Bee (Charisma Carpenter) has a gift where she knows everybody's favorite meal which are all odd. The film has a "come to Jesus" goodness and feel to it without Bruce Marchiano harassing people. The acting and dialogue fell short of entertaining. The sound in the Jack/ Francis (Clare Kramer) parking lot was uneven with car background noise getting louder or softer depending on who was speaking. Amber Benson plays a prostitute, I think, as they could never say her occupation. Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.

Jack (Luke Perry as the older version, Alex Shaffer as the younger) helps a stranded motorist fix his car in a rural area of the South. As he works, Jack tells the gentleman the tale of "how he met his mother". When he was a teen, Alex. who was adopted, had a fight with his mother and drives off to see if he can find his birth mother. All he knows is that she hangs out at a nearby, 24 hour eatery, The Griddle House. Trying to slip in without much fanfare, Jack soon gets caught up in the kind and zany workers at the place. Maybee, er Maybelline (Charisma Carpenter) is sweet and attentive; she may be Jack's mother. Also possibilities include another waitress named Francis, who convinces Jack to order some hot cocoa, and a hooker named Tiny, who has stopped in for a breather before her "busy" New Year's Eve. As the crazy cook, Amos (Paul Rodriguez) asks Jack to punch in a song on the jukebox, the entire cooking crew does a dance. There is an older man who sits all day at one of the stools and a quiet busboy who wears a bow tie and is constantly cleaning. As the evening wears on, a police officer ushers in a shoplifter but chains him to the counter when he called out on a more important matter. As can be expected, this petty thief is angry and demeaning. Asking each of the possible ladies some sly questions, Jack thinks he has it figured out. But, does he? This slice of life film has a subdued strength and some really fine performances. Rodriquez is always a welcome hoot and Carpenter is loveliness itself. In truth. all of the actors do their parts quite nicely. Important as well are the themes, where forgiveness and kindness are the major take-aways of the day. In fact, this Griddle House is kind of a miracle worker for all those who enter in. Want to feel good about humanity after all? Order up The Griddle House.

Is this show for real? The acting is horrible. Everything about it is awful and boring.

This pitiful try at a comedy was at first disguised as a romcom ...pitiful

I have a genuine theory that every character in this film is a robot replicating a human being but not quite well enough. Something about these characters, the way they acted, spoke and the things they chose to do all just sat wrong with me and didn't feel human.

I don't understand the over-the-top negative reviews of this movie. It's as though the viewers were expecting a blockbuster, over-produced cinematic home run. Expectations are different for independent movies - not lower - but different. I expected and enjoyed the interwoven stories and characters that inhabited The Griddle House. It almost felt like I was watching a production at the local playhouse, where all the characters and actors were approachable and believable. The only thing that keeps me from rating this movie higher is the volume of the ambient music; it overshadowed much of the dialogue.
