The Great Gatsby

An incredibly noisy mess of a film filled with nonsensical dialog, modern music that makes no sense in the setting and acting like out of cartoons. This director is all flash over substance, seems like he directed it on 10 hits of acid. Nothing original, nothing new about it. This is a film for simpletons and the weak minded. Dull beyond belief. Headache inducing. You will want to shoot yourself in the head after twenty minutes. I can't imagine anyone who actually liked this and have to give it a one star to counteract the 10 star reviews by people who most certainly don't know what good movies are about. Simply ruined Gatsby, the book was never like this, but anyone under 30 will think it's cool. Rap music? Really?

This doesn't happen often, but we left the cinema after 45 minutes; Irritated about the rape of Scott Fitzgerald's fantastic narrative. It wasn't only that the characters where unlikable (I couldn't feel a grain of the empathy I felt when I was reading the novel, and Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway is an awful cast), but the director thought it needed gang-rap during the lavish parties in the Gatsby mansion… gang-rap…? during the roaring 20's? That felt like if sir Lancelot would appear, mounted and in full attire, during the maze-scene of "the shining"; quite "Monty Pyton-ish" indeed… I advise all people whom are not 16yo girls (or feel like one) to avoid this movie. If you don't want to read the book, watch the 74 version.

what a great disappointment this movie was. a totally unrealistic and poorly directed movie i am a die-hard Leonardo fan but this was the worst movie i have seen him in. my wife and i have watched nearly ten thousand movies together over the years. we have only ever walked out of three movies. the great gatsby was the third. the camera shot changes were so fast they hurt the eyes and the whole movie was a cross between a poor melodrama and and a badly produced farce. after enduring one hour and ten minutes of overstimulation and a care less attitude from the actors, we decided to leave. for a movie that promised so much, it delivered very little. even the great Leonardo DiCaprio seemed disinterested in his part. he particularly appeared reluctant to deliver his lines when they included the words old sport.
