The Good House follows Hildy Good, a prominent realtor in Wendover, a fictional coastal Massachusetts town resembling Gloucester. Hildy knows everyone in town, as she's lived here all her life with family and friends. She speaks directly to the audience by breaking the fourth wall to offer background information and gossip on the main characters. The town of Wendover feels very lived in by the end, due to how each well developed character is acted excellently. Hildy's struggle with alcoholism is incredibly believable because her relatable excuses and nonchalant internal voice is convincing. This is largely due to Sigourney Weaver's stellar performance as usual. As the film progresses, it passes through comedy, romance, drama, and finally suspense. I laughed, cried, felt on edge, and finally the ending warmed my heart.

To new heights with this dramedy..starts off kinda cute n sweet with some comedy light as it is and then the drama hits n she runs off to the finish.. I loved the movie n great to see her n Kevin act together.
Side note saw it was her birthday the other day, hard to believe she is 75.
Would love to see her get nominated for an Oscar for such a little known film n it looks like it has quietly gone to dvd blu ray.
She did a very good job with the storyline very tough subject to grasp when it finally falls in your lap out of nowhere but the result was overwhelming a bit sad for her at first. Go see it.

Before I continue: not that I'm some fan of it, but I quite like romance/drama movies. And even better, if spiced with moderate humor.
Ok, there's no doubt that S. Weaver and K. Kline are great actors -which also influenced my decision to watch The Good house.
Now, I can't really say if the whole movie is good or bad .. because my "patience" ended at 31st minute of watching it. You know, I made my personal rule: if movie doesn't "engage" me in first 20 minutes, then it just isn't worth my time -so far, this works very well for me. Ok, I gave it additional 10min's, because I hoped...
After I stopped watching it, I checked IMDb and see rating of 6.7 (which is good rating in my eyes). But then, I see only 715 people voted, and only 15 made a review. In short: this movie didn't really caught some attention.
First 31 minutes... story doesn't develop at all. There's only narrative (by S. Weaver) introduction of characters (so we know, "who is who") -a great way to have movie content, without telling anything. I mean an average movie is about 90 minutes long -so don't waste the time!
I'm probably not entitled to comment it, but my impression is, this movie was made for those, who dream (or can't forget) about their lost youth love... the possibility to spark again? I have nothing against such stories, though. It's just, this one starts very poor. Does it become better later? I really don't care anymore.

This is not an action movie by any sort but it's a very moving every day life kind of movie... Super acting...very real life ... Smart, funny, sad .... Sigourney Weaver was magnificent... This movie stuck with me for days. I only scored 9 out of 10 if only for the desire to see a bit more storyline ... But really, I was super engaged from beginning to end. Even my husband loved it! Kevin Kline's character was a perfect match for Sigourney's. The one scene at the end where he gets mad was so real... I can't say enough about the realness of this movie. I can't wait to watch it again. Definitely.

It's a drama set in a modern-day fictional town called Wendover, Massachusetts. It follows a somewhat functioning alcoholic 60ish realtor as she faces the reality of her declining business and family relationships.
Hildy Good (Sigourney Weaver) is a woman in denial about her drinking and its impact on her life after she's gone through one rehab. She still has a decent relationship with her ex, Scott (David Rasche), who left her for a man. Her daughters, Tess (Rebecca Henderson) and Emily (Molly Brown) have a more strained relationship with Hildy because of their childhood memories of her drinking.
Hildy also engages with a young married woman, Rebecca (Morena Baccarin), who is having an affair with the town's psychiatrist, Peter Newbold (Rob Delaney). Finally, as Hildy's world begins to crumble, she reconnects with Frank (Kevin Kline), her high school love, who is now the town's provider of garbage collection, substantial renovations, as well as fishing for lobsters.
This is Sigourney Weaver's movie. She is outstanding and has a good script with which to work. She is smart, clever, and humerous in dealing with her denial and frequently talks to the movie audience to explain herself. Kevin Kline is a good match. The rest of the characters are more forgettable as individuals but add texture to the context. Unfortunately, I thought the ending was too facile, detracting from the film's impact. I haven't read the book, so I don't know if the finishes match.

I would definitely recommend this film, it has real heart, it's funny, moving and it's like your talking to one of your friends,I loved the chemistry between Sigourney Weaver and Kevin Kline two of Hollywoods finest actors. Great performances all round. What can I say about Sigourney Weaver, she is truly amazing here in the lead role, she really makes us care about the character of Hildy Good and root for her! She deserves an Oscar Nomination for this performance. Great to see an actress of a certain age, still command the screen. Sigourney Weaver is outstanding. Watch this film and tell your friends, you won't be disappointed.

An old genre of drama has appeared, very well carried on the shoulders of sigourney weaver and kevin kline, a drama about a realtor at the gold coast of massachusets, her relations to alcoholism , and a story about family concerns, and most of all a strange story about love when becoming grey by age..i will not elaborate much about the plot...
other than mentioning the blased and relaxed acting by the cast, all of them manage the rule of their game, and i think mrs weaver delivers one of her best performances ever, dealing with a role like this which must be very difficult to act with such realism. Also a note on kevin kline...that man bewilders me of his goodlookingness. He was actually more grey and oldlookish back then when he did the eloquent acts of a cancersick architect in the film called''life as a house'' then he appears like 20 years later in this film ''the good house''. You were a clown 40 myears ago, but now youre a real superstar of mine.youre just eminent at the acting.
So hereby i'm sold as the mansions over there in new england, its a sharp and sober look toward addiction and its kin, a well made movie that will give you a wakeup call whatever the grumpy old man says...

I saw The Good House, starring Sigourney Weaver-the Ghostbusters movies, Dave; Kevin Kline-Beauty and the Beast_2017, Dave; Morena Baccarin-Gotham_tv, the Deadpool movies and David Rasche-Veep_tv, Men in Black 3.
This is a rom/com with a message in it about alcoholism. Sigourney plays a woman with 2 grown daughters that she supports financially, while also running a real estate business and fighting with other realtors. David plays her ex husband-he left her for another man-that still comes around for social gatherings and to visit with his daughters. Kevin plays Sigourney's old boyfriend that she is trying to reconnect with and Morena is a new resident to the town that becomes her friend. With all her problems, Sigourney tends to drink too much but refuses to admit she is an alcoholic. Her daughters and friends try an intervention but it's unsuccessful due to Sigourney thinking she has it under control. The movie also has Sigourney talking to the audience on occasions, which I found a little distracting.
It's rated R for language and sexual content-including partial nudity-and has a running time of 1 hour & 44 minutes.
It's not one that I would buy on DVD but my wife seemed to like it more than I did, so I guess it would be alright as a rental.

Ms. Weaver makes this role seem effortless. I totally related to her character.
I have to search diligently these days, to occasionally find a gem of a movie, and this one is one of those special few.
The acting, the story, the characters, the setting, the score, the camera work....everything, was authentic, beautifully and excellently executed.
The only tiny thought I had, which did not lesson my enjoyment, was why they didn't go with a more authentic Maine accent. No big deal.
A must see movie for those of us who are not entertained or much impressed with what is most popular of movie making these days.
