I don't like remakes which serve no purpose save a hope at a few dollars. I have only seen half the movie. I caught the very end with Richard Farnsworth (Tom Horn 1980) playing the friendly old cowboy who gets the Doc & the Mrs into Mexico. in the original, Slim Pickens (Tom Horn) played this role and with a little more dialogue.

Violent . Shooting is the least of it. It's a B grade production. Too many bad things happen. It's exhausting. Alec and his wife are good actors. There is a humorous moment though. They end up in a garbage dump and after all that they are perfectly neat and clean and their clothes are all perfect. Ha ha ha. My favorite character was the kind gentleGentleman in the last scene.

This is not a review... I just wanted to post a comment on another review which rated this remake as better than the original, based on Kim Basinger's performance - which - according to the reviewer, was far superior to Ali Mcgraw's performance in the original. Although McGraw's performance was subdued and submissive, I find it hard to believe Basinger is better, and extremely difficult to believe that someone could out-direct Sam Peckinpah in a film such as this. But at the same time I am also intrigued. The original is one of my favorite movies of all time, so now I am curious to see this re-make. I do like the cast, but would find it hard to compare these actors to those in the original. Sally Struthers was priceless, just for instance. Guess I'll look for a used copy of this remake.

In the 1972 original Thompson's classic book was ruinously adapted for the silverscreen. This remake manages to be even worse. If it was possible I would give this movie a negative rating. The remake's worst sin is that now the book will never be properly made into a movie. The problem of both versions is that a highly original story was transformed into a typical Hollywood schlock 'star vehicle'. Read the book or see the Grifters or the Wild Bunch

I cannot see why filmmakers remade this movie. The 1972 movie with McQueen and McGraw is almost a classic. Steve McQueen was an outstanding actor and Baldwin is only an inadequate actor. He has no passion in his play. Also the action in the original "Getaway" was fantastic. But the remake has no action! It is almost boring despite the fact that the film-making in 1972 was more difficult than in 1994. I don't understand the way that Baldwin imprisoned from Mexico. I think this is a mistake in the story. So i think that there was no need to remake it, or if they decided to remake a classic, they must choose an excellent actor for the first role, like Johnny Depp or Brad Pitt...

As a general rule I tend not to like remakes. But for me a least this remake of the Sam Peckinpah early 70s film actually surpasses the original. After watching both versions back to back I found the flow and pacing to be much better compared to the original. I have a great respect for Sam Peckinpah's work and I love Steve McQueen and Ali MacGraw. But I found the pacing to be a little too slow for my taste. There were numerous scenes that I think could have cut out because they didn't move the story along. Alec Baldwin is not one of my favorite actors, but he is well cast in film. Kim Bassinger is comparable to Ali MacGraw. And, for my money, James Woods easily outshines Ben Johnson. Michael Mansen and the rest the cast fill there roles nicely. There's even an early performance from Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Overall a much better watch!

This Roger Donaldson's rendition of Peckinpah's & Hill's cult movie let me unsatisfied at all. No comparison with the original, nor the direction (average enough) neither the acting: good casting but... forget Baldwin's and Basinger's performances. Too hairish Baldwin, too curly blondish Basinger! Mr. McQueen didn't need all those hairs to be a "real Man", and Ms. McGraw was so charming with her magnetic expression... That said and coming back to this Mr. Donaldson's remake, the other character actors are well casted and convincing: Marsden, a real "macho", and Wood (the "bad bad bad" guy) above all . Cinematography is in the average. If you don't have anything better to do...

Baldwin & Basinger are pretty slick in this film and I enjoyed the dynamic between Michael Madsen's character and his hostages. It's not a complicated film but what it does, it does well, and there's a decent amount of softcore female nudity to for us boys to enjoy hehe. Talking about sleaze, shout out to James Woods' performance too as the nasty gangster/businessman boss.

This movie is a remake of the 1972 film, which was, in turn, based on a horrendously stupid book by Jim Thompson. In the original, Steve McQueen saved the day, as did Walter Hill with his screenwriting. A lot of reviews bashed this film, but I really enjoyed it. The heat between Basinger and Baldwin is raw and believable - better than McQueen and MacGraw. James Woods absolutely nails the Benyon character, too. I also preferred Mark Isham's music in this film to that of the original. Watch both of them and decide for yourself ! You won't be disappointed !
