The original Norwegian movie Breaking Surface (directed by Joachim Hedén) from 2020 is way better as this. The Norwegian movies was published just a couple of years ago, so what is the reason of making another movie with almost the same script? Anyway, The Dive is somewhat a mediocre movie without real shining moments and not much suspense, and some too much emotional space filler scenes. Breaking Surface on the contrary got more suspense and better production. Anyway, if you watched Breaking Surface you can skip The Dive, and if you are interested in the story of two sisters fighting death, I would recommend to watch the Norwegian movie.

Went into this movie knowing absolutely nothing about it except the poster said it was "this years fall." I loved that film so gave this one a chance and was pleasently surprised. Its one of those great movies that's limited to just a couple of characters stuck in one place but manages to grip you with its story. This especially could of gotten boring being underwater. But there's alot of going too and from the mainland and the main girl running around trying to save the day is great at acting genuinely petrified in the movie. There's also lots of arty visuals and it makes a nice change from all these 3 hour epics we get these days at only an hour and a half long.

This should've been a short film without the unnecessary and mostly pointless back-story. That way there would've been constant tension and suspense without the deflating sappy back-story, that ultimately was repetitive and bland and really had nothing to do with the dramatics. I felt the gals were well cast and performed great, and the underwater cinematography was done well. The Fix-a-flat canister product placement was entertaining, but they missed some opportune moments for humor with the can and after destroying the Toyota. Nevertheless, an ok one-time watch if there's nothing better to see.

Such a Nice Simple Story, a tiny bit more Backstory would of been nice, but still a Great Watch Nonetheless. Elements of the Film - 1. We have 2 Sisters, One Older, Wiser but Apathetic 😑 and the Other, Younger and Vivacious ⚡ 2. We have the Juxtaposition of The Land and the Sea. With the Younger Sister Going back and Forth to Safety (Land) and to the Danger Zone (Sea). But here's what's so good about this also, when the younger sister is on the (Land), She's safe but at the same time, she's in the Danger Zone because she's not able to Assist Her Sister in any way 😔. And When she's in the Danger Zone (Sea), They at Multiple Times have a Limited Amount of Breathable Air in Their Tanks. The Tension and Emotion was Excellent in Spots. 3. The Atmosphere and Sound Under the Sea. 4. The Core Theme of this Film is, quite Frankly, that the Older Sister became Apathetic about Life, She Saw that she Had Lost the Fire that her Younger Sister still Maintained. 5. There's some Beautiful Cinematography, there's a Particular Wide Shot of the Younger Sister running up towards this small Church House and it was such a Nice Sequence, the shot was Landscape and went on for a small time (around 50 Seconds) and again it showed how animated and energetic the younger sister was. 6. The Score was Beautiful and So Emotional in Several Moments, a brief Moment, when the May Hugs Drew and says "Let it go" and More Moments near the Very End in the Air Pocket and At the Very End, Such an Emotional Score. Overall, Quite a Heavy Watch.

In the ceaseless churn of Hollywood's remake machine, few things are as perplexing as the decision to rehash a film that was perfectly fine to begin with. Case in point, this recent German industry remake of a movie that is a mere three years old and already an award winner with a respectable 6.1 IMDB score, allthough . To term this endeavor as unnecessary would be an understatement; it borders on cinematic sacrilege. What strikes me immediately is the complete absence of any inventive or fresh ideas. The original had nuance, depth, and subtleties that gave it its award-winning status. This remake, however, seems to function on the Hollywood maxim of "if it ain't broke, let's break it anyway." The plot is watered down to its most basic elements, characters are flattened into one-dimensional caricatures, and any sense of artistic vision is overridden by commercial considerations. The acting is another arena where the remake falls flat. In the original, performances were tuned to capture the complexities of the human condition, providing a multifaceted portrayal that left a lasting impression. Here, it appears as though the ensemble is merely going through the motions, bereft of any emotional connection to their roles or the narrative at large. Then there's the question of why this remake even exists. Typically, remakes serve to update outdated social perspectives, or to leverage new technological advancements for an enhanced storytelling experience. This film does neither. It seems like a ploy to cash in on the original's success, offering nothing new but a tarnished mirror reflecting the better movie it could never be. In summary, this remake is a lesson in how not to pay homage to source material. It takes a beautiful, three-year-old, award-winning film and dilutes it into a worse-than-average movie-going experience. It's a textbook example of the film industry's increasing creative bankruptcy, prioritizing profit over artistic integrity. An utterly confounding endeavor that fails to justify its existence at every turn.
