A very slow, ponderous and frustrating movie. 3 amateurs trying to perform a very complex mission. No surprise they fail. The script tries to create drama and pathos but it largely just annoys.
It took soooo long to get to the plot twist. OMG....
Every scene could be edited by at least 25%.
That said, ok performances but not sure you need to watch the whole thing.

It definitely took a while to get going but when it did it was very enjoyable. It's definitely not good enough to be pushing the 8s and 9s but I enjoyed too much for it to be a 6 so a 7 it is. The fight at the ending proper annoyed me. She milked that stab with the scissors too much. She could've easily picked up the scissors before him and shanked his ass. The dude was like 1000 years old, the fight was literally in slow motion. Other then that very enjoyable film.

Not much I can say about this movie except that it drags on a bit and is disguised as a spy thriller but is really just a disturbing drama. The acting is great all around, and there's a little twist that totally took me by surprise. Not something I'd watch again, but it definitely deserves above a 6.

I was fortunate enough to see this at a film fest and have to say it was definitely the best movie I saw! The storyline keeps you on the edge of your seat, and at the end I just kept thinking "Please don't be over, please don't be over". . . I felt so connected to the story I didn't want it to end.
Jessica Chastain may not currently be a recognizable name, but my assessment is that she will be soon. Her performance was captivating. Her scenes in the Doctor's office chilled me to the bone! Adding the indisputable talent of her counterpart Helen Mirren into the mix is the perfect cocktail. Definitely a girls kick a** experience! The Debt weaves together many layers, (as any movie worth watching should do!). Action, suspense, romance, beauty and conflict - a movie I'll be dragging all my girlfriends to.

As always, Helen Mirren shines as an Israeli agent forced to come to grips with a lie that she and others perpetrated some 30 years before. As the younger Mirren, Jessica Chastain, certainly an upcoming actress shows her mettle.
These agents were sent in by Israel to apprehend a notice Nazi concentration camp doctor who experimented on the victims. No, we're not talking about Dr. Mengele. Their plan goes terribly awry and the doctor escapes. The three concoct a story that he is dead.
Of course, after 30 years, the three find out that the evil doctor is alive in Asia. The effort falls on Mirren to get him.
This is a story of trust and ultimate reality with having to tell the truth. There are tragic consequences.

The biggest mistake in this movie was the casting for the part of the Stephen Gold character! Was nobody over at Acme Central Casting that day? Was no one clever enough to see that Ciarán Hinds and Marton Csokas look alike and both should have been the older-younger versions of Stephen Gold, instead of Tom Wilkinson and Sam Worthington!? Someone sure was out to lunch that day, wow. Oh well.
