Great message, great theme, great movie! At a time when the country is down, this movie provides the inspiration of faith - faith in God and faith in our common man, and provides insights int the moral high ground, which is so desperately needed in today's society. Some critics would endeavor to apply some sort of anal-retentive logic, which, if otherwise applied to any current Hollywood movie, would deem them absurd, at best. This movie effuses the smell of ambrosial roses when compared to the wreaking odor of the garbage that currently comes out of Hollywood. Many critics miss the striking symbolism and moral overtones involved in this movie, and they fail to elucidate on the natural emotive response that the audience is sure to feel during this wonderful drama.

First, this is a family move that is very enjoyable. The acting, filming, etc are very good. The story line keeps you engaged and there is enough plot twist to be pleasing at the end.
The rest may be seen as a spoile:
However, seeing Max Lucado as being the writer of the book and having a hand in this it was dissapointing that the show promots, even in the end, supestition as something to believe in and trust over the Lord Jesus the Christ which one would think this movie would be about.

This movie was excellent! Sure, its a Christmas movie, but it is definitely one for everyone to see. I can't express in words how great this movie was. Its a great movie for the whole family to watch together, and its a movie that I'm sure will become a classic movie to watch every year around Christmastime.
The 'critics' scores seem extremely low on this movie, but just take a day to head out to the movies to see this one, and you will be glad you did. I think some of the critics are trying to be "politically correct" in giving a lower score to this movie only because its a true Christmas movie. I am telling you this is a great movie for everyone and anyone!

This film is a mess of undirected ideas. It tries to capture some kind of classic Christmas feeling, but completely misses. Giving credit where it's due, the costumes and location filming are quite nice.
Beyond those niceties, the film falls apart. The story is a mess, the moral message unclear. For a film that is trying to put the heart back into Christmas this is a soul-less mess that will not endear itself to any casual viewer.
BUT THE REAL REASON I WANTED TO REVIEW THIS ===========================================
The first few pages of IMDb reviews are filled with glowing 10/10 reviews by "people" who have never reviewed anything else on IMDb. Most of them praise this movie for bringing back the true Christian spirit of Christmas.
Pages of 10/10 reviews for a movie that clearly isn't good by any standard. Is that your message for Christmas? That it's OK to lie and deceive other people, as long as it results in conning them into handing over a few more bucks to see your movie.
I'm not a Christian, but that seems immoral to me.

If you like inspiring, hope-filled Christmas movies, then you'll definitely want to see "The Christmas Candle." I was pleasantly surprised at how well the movie was made. It would definitely hold up to any mainstream movie in its genre. The acting was great overall, the costumes were beautiful and it was easy to get drawn into the story. I also really like how they introduced Susan Boyle's character. The characters in the movie deal with real, relatable hardships and disappointments as they all secretly hope for a Christmas miracle. This movie celebrates communities coming together, faith and the true meaning of Christmas. It leaves you with the warm, uplifted feeling you hope to have after watching a Christmas movie.

I love Christian movies because they are Christian movies. However, this story is so compelling I think I would love it even if it was secular. The music fits well, grabs your attention, the scenery is beautiful, the actors for the most part were experienced and therefore, very good. I enjoyed the story and the way it was presented, starting with the history and then fast-forwarding to modern time and there was more than one story running through it. It just makes you pause and think and I identified with many of the characters as far as how I believe and how my faith works itself out. All in all, very good film. It should be a classic, in my opinion.

This movie is a must-see heart-warming quality movie this holiday. It tells of an old English village's tradition and how vibrant hope becomes contagious, as doubts are addressed and worked out. In effect, the community learns to look outside their problems, embrace community, and renew hope. This movie features Susan Boyle's delicate and angelic voice, and despite her green acting, it was a sweet touch.
It's cruel for reviewers to rate this movie so low as this IS a great film. Yes it may be a "cutesie" Christmas movie, but defiantly not cheesy! Perhaps the content is the primary offense for those rating anything below a 5. I imagine the criteria for anything lower than a 5 would be spotty acting, horrible editing, music and a pathetic, non- entertaining plot.
Everything from the lighting, screen writing and flow is solid. I suggest seeing this movie for yourself. No doubt placing first time actors on the screen can alter its ratings, but I don't see how some justify their "1/10" or even "4/10" ratings. Although it doesn't have a complete 3-D sensory overload, ground-breaking techniques or Oscar-winning performances by all cast, it is great movie.
I appreciate that Hans Matheson and Samantha Barks characters flesh out deep pains, and express their doubts. There are beautiful twists in the movie, and despite the "religious" message, hope itself is a breath of fresh air. So, just for the sheer psychological, emotional and mental benefits this is a great movie to see during this season (studies prove that even the idea of hope itself can promote healing and happiness http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/11/health/hope-healing-enayati/).
I've rated this movie at a 10, as despite it being a niche, genre holiday movie, it contains all aspects needed to entertain, encourage and inspire viewers with the "Christmas spirit". This is a kid-friendly movie and good traditional movie, that I hope becomes a classic. It disappoints me that viewers critiques is so low, therefore I rated this the highest possible as there must be a true balance to all those posting "1/10". I encourage you to see the Christmas Candle to judge for yourself.

I went to watch this movie knowing it was a tale about hope, inspiration and people. I was not disappointed, enjoyed the characters and message from beginning to end. It is the absolute opposite from zombies, explosions, murder and mayhem, and is all the better for it. Not sure if the movie is true to every historical aspect of the time portrayed, but that is not the point. While the audience was small, there were applause at the end, and some folks wiping their eyes and not rushing to get out of the theater. Beware the onion ninjas when watching. Watch this movie with an appreciation for the human spirit and faith, you will not be disappointed and wish we had more movies like this to watch instead of the normal trashy Hollywood fare.
