OK, I admit I wanted to watch this because of Kelly MacDonald, who I think is incredibly sexy. Other than a few closeups of her face, that's it for her. This movie lost me from the beginning, then spun me around in circles just to make sure I didn't find my way out. Great....we're shifting time again...no warning...so you spend five minutes figuring out if this scene is before, after, during, in another dimension...??? NO chemistry between Cumberbatch and MacDonald. Sad. A lot of red herrings. The book about the boy named Fish....?? The new romance with the committee chick....? Why did Kelly disappear "I have to go away...."? (Just pregnancy? Why disappear? This isn't the 1900s...) The mysterious toss-off line the insane friend tells him---something along the lines of "I've done something really bad, you'll find out later..." What? Who knows? It's just one false lead after another, and of course none make any sense. If it makes any sense to you, you're a better man than I am. Where did it really go, in the end? I don't know, I really don't. Is this about some sort of mysticism or reincarnation? How could Cumberbatch appear as a boy to his pregnant mother? Who is the boy who appears then disappears on the subway? Cumberbatch? His friend? His imagination? No one of significance? Is the new baby a "replacement" for the lost girl? Is it the lost girl? God knows. the business about the PM and the report....what report? The report on the eduction system? Does anyone care? They don't seem to. What a mess. Where's the continuity girl when you need her?

I am surprised at the negative reviews for this work. I thought it was a wonderfully gentle film which explored the ineffable sadness of loss - of a friend, of childhood and of a child. This is about what happens after the crying and shouting has stopped. Life goes on regardless - something most of us have to face at some point. When you doubt your own belief and hope and when ghosts haunt your waking days... this is a film about losing a grip on what is 'normal'. I found this film very moving - I did not expect any resolution or for everything to be tied up neatly at the end. Instead we are given a glimpse of adults fighting off despair and trying to find some sense and meaning. It was very well written, accompanied by some beautiful music and filled with excellent camera work. The best TV film I have seen for some while.

This movie is hard to get into since it has many things going on. When the end came I thought that there was going to be a part two. There was not a part two-that was the movie in it's entirety. I did not like this movie. This is 90 minutes of my life that I will never get back.

I watched this movie, despite all the negative ratings and I am surprised. I think this is a very moving and well done piece. The acting was just "wow"! Has humanity benn so desensitized, that this story doesn't find more followers? I was very moved and this is definitely one of better productions lately. Thank you for making this film!

I admit I was afraid to watch this. I don't like formulaic movies with predictable characters and storylines. But, as a huge fan of Benedict Cumberbatch, I decided to trust in its worth. I was not disappointed. As a mother of 5 children, having lost one, I was a little on guard and told myself in advance of viewing--don't buy into anything... don't feel... don't fall apart. I was somewhat stoic but as the film progressed and I became attached to the main characters, instead of it causing MY pain of MY loss to well up, instead I felt the whole gamut of emotions of the characters, so realistically and unashamedly and believably portrayed. Don't try to text or work on your computer or do any distracting tasks--you will miss the astonishing beauty of the cinematography and the subtle nuances of the characters and settings--there are several scenes without audible words but these may speak even more loudly.

I had thought and hoped this was a series but found out tonight that yes, it was just the one program, and we're supposed to be happy with what we got. There were so many loose ends left. This could have gone so much further. Yes, we can work out what all the clues were and what it was all about but it would have been so much more satisfying to see "the rest", when it only just seemed to be getting going. I had only just persuaded my husband that it "had potential" and that we should watch the next episode, and then there wasn't one. A huge disappointment and a huge waste of Benedict Cumberbatch's time and talent. Really disappointed. I'd been hoping for a "Broadchurch-like" series with twists and turns and eventually a resolution. I guess with the "time" thing that couldn't logically happen but was really hoping for much, much more.

I love this movie; it is very beautifully written and performed. The music is my favorite part, really enjoy listening to it smooth in and out as the plot unfolds. Benedict's acting is as amazing as always, especially in the scene when he realised he mistook someone else's daughter as Kate, that kind of melancholy and heart-broken. I can't understand Charlie's part very well but I guess it is indicating that everyone has a child in their heart that they are searching for and love. I hope I can get more insights from the original book. :)

The lead actors were great, the storyline was terrible, it didn't directly reflect anything, there is no insight to what happened, who took her, nothing. It was difficult to watch after so much hype. There was so much potential for this movie, felt like it got cut off or stopped recording, not ended like it should have.

Spoilers: Your husband dresses like a young boy, builds forts in the woods and you blithely look out your window and ring a bell when supper is ready??? Your child disappears and you don't contact your wife immediately but wait until you're driven home by the police?? You apparently don't work but can afford an huge upscale flat or are we supposed to believe a children's book writer in this day and age can live off royalties??? Or an apparently friendless woman teaching a few hours a week and giving piano lessons can afford a killer stand alone cottage on a large Kent property?. Oh dear. I am someone who cries over diaper commercials but nothing in this contrived out of touch melodrama touched me in any way. Each character was an upper class white Brit - devoid of passion. Everyone said their lines appropriately but what was happening underneath?? Nothing. I kept on hoping it would get better. It didn't. When it ended in a barren hospital room with no monitoring equipment and a woman valiantly giving birth without aid of drugs, I wondered if this script had been written in the '50
