I admittedly gave this a 10 instead of a 9 to try and balance the rating out a tiny fraction more. I went into this movie knowing very little about it (Which I think makes for a better experience regardless. Knowing ratings and reviews and too much about the trailer taints how you're going to react.) and just thought it'd be a fun/dumb horror movie to watch, as me and my wife try and watch at least 5 new horror movies each week. I was very pleasantly surprised by this movie. The concept was usual, but unique in its own way and with interesting twists. The execution of the concept was solid - much better than I would expect with from a small movie like this. If you haven't seen this movie yet - I would stop reading reviews and watch it for yourself now before you learn too much about it. You might enjoy it like I did.

'The Charnel House' drew me into seeing it, with a cool poster, an intriguing idea and as someone with a general appreciation for horror. That it was low-budget, which from frequent personal experience is rarely a good sign due to that there are so many poor ones out there, made me though apprehensive. Found the film to be pretty weak with a lot more wrong than right. 'The Charnel House' is not great, or good, has a fair share of problems (fairly big ones too) and doesn't do enough with its potential, which was hardly small. There are however a few decent, even good, qualities in 'The Charnel House', at least it wasn't intelligence insulting or inept (unlike some films seen recently) though the potential was never lived up to. Lets start with the positives. The scenery is atmospheric, likewise with the very nice way it's shot. The music is suitably spooky and quirky and doesn't distract at all from the atmosphere, while not exactly enhancing it. 'The Charnel House' started off fairly spookily. However, the story does feel over-stretched and some of it feels vague, under-explained. The more 'The Charnel House' progressed, the duller, more predictable, more senseless and less scary it got, and too many characters are too sketchy and with nowhere near enough to make one want to endear to them. Making the film feel bland and forgettable with not enough heart put into it. Acting is never amateurish, there has been far worse acting before and since and at least they try with limited material and sketchy, dull and clichéd characters, but nobody is note-worthy. Dialogue can be stilted and rambling while the pace is uneven, dragging in a lot of the second half and never is it exciting. Found the supposedly shocking moments not surprising or scary and the supposedly creepy atmosphere dreary, due to the excessive obviousness and the lack of tension and suspense, and the end felt not much of a climax. In conclusion, pretty weak but not unwatchable. 3/10 Bethany Cox

Loved the premise of this movie, something different than the usual horror/supernatural flick. I thought the acting was excellent! And no, I don't know any actors or anyone else associated with this movie. I truly enjoyed it! Based on the ending my first thought was "I hope they make another"

Watched this on Netflix was a suggestion since I binged watched Smallville and Luke Cage and two of the actors from those show were in this movie. I thought the movie was good I watch it straight through unlike some of the other horrible cell phone camera looking movies on Netflix.

The "Horror" term ruined the movie. I also checked in to see a "horror" movie and that wasn't horror. But it is actually a very good movie, i liked everything in it, maybe 1.30 was a bit too long. The plot was interesting, the acting is OK, i enjoyed the movie, Suspense is a good word to describe it.. Its worth seeing

The Charnel House is indeed a different kind of horror movie. Especially when you compare it to most modern horror movies. It's a suspense/thriller that may seem to be a bit slow-paced but it actually just helps to build even a more thrilling outcome. The cast works amazingly. The chemistry they share is great, sometimes you'd almost forget they're actors. The way the cast works as a clockwork might be what makes this movie even more dramatic, as you feel they are humans. It's really one of the best things about the movie. I think it is a great movie, nicely made and put together so great it is scary. I recommend it if you're in for a experience that will get shivers running down your spine. It is a great experience.

The cast really did make this film worth seeing, if you like NETFLIX actors, you will see several in this movie. Cleveland has the history of great movie scenes and the building for the film is true to the current state of affairs in Cleveland flats. While I do love drama and skilled actors, the quality of the filming and music/sound was outstanding. The female cast were very easy on the eyes as they were perfect in every way. The male cast did a great job scaring the heck out of me! The young girl brought a human feel to the film but also was a little creepy Please go see the movie with someone because it is truly spooky PS: So Scary i didn't sleep much last night

I really didn't know what to expect going into this especially with low score but have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. This movie is GREAT! Great performances by all cast members. Erik Laray Harvey from "Luke Cage" is awesome in this along with Callum Blue who was phenomenal! What I liked about it was there wasn't the gratuitous gore and in your face bloody slasher stuff. It felt like a more polished sophisticated film that I hadn't seen in a long time. This movie is super suspenseful with some very creepy moments with a terrific twist in the end. If you like the suspense/thriller genre I would def recommend.

OK so this is my first movie review. I felt obligated to write it, and this is why.... This movie deserves MAYBE a 3 out of 10. After checking, all of the users who gave this movie rave reviews have only written one review ever, which was for this movie alone. Basically people that are probably associated with the creation of the movie that want to make it sound amazing, when it really just isn't. To be honest, this movie just had no substance. No suspense, no actual scary moments (I say this because horror is listed as the genre), no decent or interesting characters that you end up caring about at any point. Don't get fooled by the fake reviews, I would highly suggest not bothering with this one.

I'm usually not a fan of supernatural film. I was a little hesitant about going. expecting to spend the entire time hiding my eyes. The opening scenes came and went and one the characters did something that immediately got my attention and I was hooked. As the story unfolded I found myself trying to see where it was going. I did not expect where it started taking me. I give a lot of credit to the creative team that put the film together. I especially liked the kids in the film they handled themselves like pros. There was a special intensity from the young boy that appears throughout the film. He is truly an old soul. Bravo to the entire team. Henry G. Sanders
