There are movies that may have lost from the get go. Can you imagine any other movie .. like the Exorcist? I mean I know I can't. And yet I give this an 8 rating? I know sounds too crazy to be true. But it is because this really low budget attempt is not another copycat. It does things differently and it does them quite well in my humble opinion. And that is not an easy feat ... actually while you should be able to see certain things coming, I would like to believe that the movie still has a few surprises up its sleeves. It also is very well shot and the tension is there from start to finish ... the ending maybe slacking a little bit ... still more than just a good effort! And very well played to by everyone involved!

All this movie needed was another pass on the script. The twist at the end is really cool but you can see it coming from a mile away. The writer/director needed to work on the script to hide it more so it wasn't so obvious. Had they done this properly it would have raised this movie up a bunch of notches. It's not really scary though it has some great creepy atmosphere going on. Some of the visuals are great, particularly the demon with all those faces and the creepy gyrating woman. But overall not horrible. It doesn't deserve such low scores.

Joel Clarke (Robert Kazinsky) part-time mechanic, dad, widower, and schizophrenic sees things. He believes his son is possessed. Father Lambert Bowman (Peter Jason and not Malcolm McDowell) recently released from jail is going to perform it. The characters and dialogue were not well written. The twist could have had an early clue. This is just another me-too exorcism film that lacks the special effects that make them memorable. Has Tatum O'Neal hit bottom yet? Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.

Boring. Why still such movies? Three stars, and i'm being generous.

The movie starts out with all the right stuff, it had good atmosphere and decent enough acting, other than some fairly 2-dimensional supporting characters, but it was watchable. It had some creepy parts, but none of them are necessarily very scary. so it was a little weak on the horror. There's mystery as to what is actually going on, and some subterfuge throughout, but the foreshadowing was a little too obvious, leaving the end to kind of fall flat, instead of being surprising or shocking, which left me a little unsatisfied. Overall, it was a good movie. I've seen much worse in the horror genre, but not something I'd watch again, or suggest to others as more than popcorn flick.

I bought this movie after having scene that scary ass trailer and the awesome poster. I wasn't disappointed, well maybe a little. It's the story of a single father played by a sexy Robert Kazinski of Hot Pursuit. Strange things begin happening in the house especially the appearance of a dope ass monster. And than his son begins to transform and can possibly be possessed. It's a familiar story. Its obviously limited budget wise but there's lots of cool touches especially the appreciated and impressive practical effects. There's also a somewhat surprising twist that is quite intriguing. All in all it's a familiar but decent watch that merits a light reccomendation, especially considering it's 4.99 to buy on Amazon streaming now. 3.25/5

When I picked up "The Assent", I hadn't even heard about it before. I was immediately intrigued by the movie's cover/poster, but sort of reluctant about it being another demonic possession movie - as they usually tend to be rather bland and laughable for the most part. Still, it being a horror movie, and being a movie I hadn't already seen, I of course found myself sitting down to watch it. Initially I wasn't overly keen on the storyline, but writer and director Pearry Reginald Teo quickly managed to win me over. And truth be told, this is definitely one of the most enjoyable and memorable demonic possession movies I have seen in a long, long time. What works for the movie is the dark atmosphere it has, and the visceral visual assault on the screen whenever the demonic entity was showing itself. That blurred 3D optical effect definitely added to the movie, and I must admit that I liked that effect. But the movie had a very solid storyline which starts out slow, but quickly progress and becomes an aggressive in-your-face type of storyline. Again, this was something I rather enjoyed. And not to mention the creature design - well, demon design. Wow, that was just amazing, I loved that, because it definitely felt otherworldly while vaguely humanoid and familiar. Thumbs up to the props department and special effects department for their accomplishments in "The Assent". I will say that the storyline is sort of dormant creepy; it is the type of story that gets under your skin and will stick with you long after the movie has ended. So I must applaud writer and director Pearry Reginald Teo on this movie. Robert Kazinsky carried the movie quite phenomenally with his performance. And it was nice to see Peter Jason in the movie, because he was nicely cast as well. It was a shame, though, that Florence Faivre wasn't given more screen time, because she could have spruced up the movie quite a bit if she was given the chance. If you enjoy a good old fashioned demonic possession movie, and have grown weary of the endless supply of less than mediocre movies in the genre, then you should definitely give "The Assent" a chance. My rating for "The Assent" is a seven out of ten stars. I was fully and wholeheartedly entertained by this movie, and it was such a nice surprise of a movie for me.

I was entertained with curiosity, which is why I watch quite a few movies which received low reviews... Will this movie grab my interest ? I won't know unless I give it a shot..I basically choose to watch based on my attraction to the story line not by other opinions..so I ad my 2 cents over other ratings. Which at times are pretty spot on! First the acting is over emphasized trying to hard to be convincing....predictable outcomes of scenes .The Father's art is a give away to the invitation to evil however his disorder was quite obvious to be an atheist a open door to any form of evil. The ending explanation narrative was not needed..The Father's early diagnosis was an introduction to the events that unfolded. I watched to the end only out of curiosity ..a 4 rating for keeping my attention...

A very confusing story. There is a twist, and it's rubbish.

Found this at Walmart and took a chance. Regrets. I know some people are dramatic with writing reviews but I can't believe this. How does a movie like this get made so poorly and have a decent budget behind it? It has no pace, not a single good actor, and no story. It doesn't make sense at all lol
