Only Ed Wood's "Glen or Glenda" is worse than this. This is bad, very bad. Anyone who thinks this is good has something wrong with them or is Kevin Williams (or both). The movie is laughable in some places and just plain bad elewhere. The three teen leads are all terrible and Hellen Mirren isn't good either. The film takes an entirely unrealistic, improbable circumstance and tries to make a movie about. With all the evil things Mrs. Tingle has done why hasn't she been fired, or killed before these * kidnap her. (SPOILER) after all that happens, after they kidnap her, almost kill her, and make real idiots of themselves. "The Exorcist" scene is the WORST SCENE OF ALL TIME. 0 stars out of 10

The reviews led me to believe this movie was horrendous. It's no great shakes, but it's not that bad. The plot is interesting (high school students tying up a mean old b**** of a teacher who's trying to ruin their lives), but writer/director Williamson doesn't let it go all out. He seems to be afraid to exploit the idea for all it's worth. Also there are HUGE gaps in logic (the teenagers unburden all their deep feelings to a teacher they have tied up and Mrs. Tingle is tied up for a day or two and never has to use the bathroom?) and the humor in the film doesn't really work. What keeps the film watchable is that it moves VERY quickly (it's just under 90 minutes) and the cast is pretty good. The best is Mirren as Mrs. Tingle. She's always been a good actress (she managed to make it through "Caligula" with her dignity intact), and she is obviously enjoying herself immensely. It's worth seeing just for her performance. So no great shakes, but no disaster either.

For everyone who said that this movie sucked, I have to tell you. The unedited version was probably scarier. There are several scenes in the trailer that were cut out (probably to get a PG-13 rating) that would have made the film scarier. In one scene in the trailer, Mrs. Tingle tries to stab Leigh Ann, but misses and almost gets Luke. I think that if they released a Director's Cut, you would like the movie more. ***hint, hint***
On the other hand, I liked the movie. It wasn't a good horror, but I thought it was funny as hell. It does have one part that made me jump out of my seat. It wasn't scary, it was just a shock. The story is well written, with the exception of the ending, and the actors did a great job of making the characters work. All in all I gave this movie an 8.
If you want to see a funny movie with a good plot, and a few scares, Rent Teaching Mrs. Tingle. And if they ever have a director's cut, Rent that as well. It will be scarier than the original.

I really loved "Teaching Mrs. Tingle"! It was really fun, and I liked it a lot. Katie Holmes was really good as the school's valedictorian, and Barry Watson and Marisa Caughlin were equally good as the best friends. Helen Mirren was really great, and a little frightening as the evil Mrs. Tingle who wants her students to fail.
Leigh Anne (Holmes) is the smartest girl in school, but is found with Mrs. Tingle's final. Tingle is happy to find this, because she wants all students to fail. Leigh Anne is actually innocent... But to persuade Tingle not to expel the three, they go to her house, and things get more fun and twisted from there.
The best and funniest scene in this movie is Marisa doing an impersonation from the "Exorcist". It made my eyes water!
Overall, this movie is very suspenseful, a little scary and totally funny! This movie rocked!
My rating: 10 out of 10

I went into this with an open mind because the advanced word on this movie was not good. I like Kevin Williamson's work. This movie either went through some reshoots or they couldn't decide on the tone for the movie. One minute it was Black Comedy aka Heathers and then the next they were playing Rock and it was like a Teen comedy. Which one did they want.Seems like they couldn't decide. I would have loved the movie if it continued to Stay Dark but it didn't. It's like they wanted to appeal to different crowds.
The best thing about the movie was Helen Mirren. Wow! What a great performance in a Bad movie. Too bad she didn't have better material but she did redeem the movie from being Really bad.

Teaching Ms. Tingle is a movie that you really can't cheer for except when the acting is done well. The plot is stupid, the characters are stupid, and the whole movie itself is rather pointless. This movie is out there. Ms. Tingle is a nightmare, but I really don't think anyone has really had a teacher so downright evil. She would simply be fired for complaints by students and teachers. Anyways, the only real action in this movie is the sex scene with Katie Holmes. She is visually stunning, but the rest of the movie fails. It just couldn't deliver where it needed to. Better luck next time.

Teaching Mrs Tingle was without a doubt one of the most dissapointing horror movies I have seen. The fair acting makes up for the dismal plot, with predictable consequences. Some of the movie is good but most of it is rubbish and cliched.
The reference to The Exorcist was ok but could have been done better, and Mirren could have been more evil. Kevin William could do better than this mess, after all he did make all three Scream movies.
Most of the people in this movie are miscast and other people could do a better job. Here are some people who would suit perfectly:
Mrs Tingle: Miranda Richardson who played Mrs Tweedy in Chicken Run Luke: Mario Lopez Leigh Ann: Neve Campbell
I think that if they were to do Teaching Mrs Tingle 2 then they should change the director and the cast.
Overall a bad horror movie 4/10
good points: it lasts 90 minutes bad points: predictable ending, bad acting, poor script, barely a horror

Judging from the reviews of many others who have commented, you would think that this movie is one of worst of all times-but, it is far from that. This movie is not trying to be a classic, it is just a simple, entertaining movie. Good performances from the cast(especially Marisa Coughlin). If I had paid eight dollars to watch this one at the movie theater, then I would probably be disappointed, but as a rental, it was good. Give this one a 7 out of 10 stars.

This film has a lot to offer in terms of entertainment, mostly, as many have noted, because of the performance of Helen Mirren as Ms Tingle. Her musings on life when abducted, referencing the great literature of the past, are exciting, and informative.
Katie Holmes and the other younger performers are all solid as well.
Where the film goes wrong is at the end. Perhaps if Ms Tingle HAD killed a student accidentally, then the young abductors would have been let off the hook, but since she did NOT really kill anyone, it seems clear she could've still filed charges against the students for kidnapping, for which there was ample forensic evidence.
Still, for the great lines given Helen Mirren, and her interaction with the younger students, in a teaching role, the movie is unique and entertaining.
