If you are looking for a traditional bloody horror film with tons of kills and paper thin characters - this is not for you. I wasn't sure what to expect. But I was pleasantly surprised by a well told story and more of an adventure-thriller feel than a straight horror film. I love movies with a rich backstory and this movie has one centered around the La Brea Tar Pits. Look, this movie isn't perfect. Besides the lead roles of the father and son, the other characters are pretty forgettable. And some of the story setup can be a drag. But I'll take a movie that tries to infuse heart with adventure and some scares any day. It is sort of a National Treasure with a cool creature. Give it a shot. You'll be Googling the La Brea Tar Pits right after...

I miss fun adventure movies with laughs and scares and heart. Tar, with its indie film limitations and aspirations really delivers with fun, a cool story and a great cast. And I loved the legend about the Tar pits and even some animation. Not the type of movie you see today and that was a good thing. Actually left me wanting more. A rarity for my viewing and I could watch with my family too!

This is absolutely the most over-rated movie I have encountered in the 10+ ? years I have been using this site. Horrible script, tacky direction, etc. People MUST be getting really desperate for something to watch...

Awful, bad acting, bad jokes, bad FX, bad scripting... Nothing else, sorry for loving memory of mr. Greene.

This is so bad! I thought by the reviews it might be ok but wow no it's not. Bad story and some of the acting is terrible Don't believe the reviews!

Adventure, cool story, eye candy (for ladies and gents), and some very tense moments. What more do you want around Halloween? A jumpy thriller that brings back the OG creature movie. Was definitely worth it.

Times are pretty bleak- this movie took my hubby and I away from it all for a bit. Reminded me of some of the older creature films. Fun time, we enjoyed the adventure and a some good jumpy parts too!

This is a new age version of the old school "Creature from the Blue Lagoon" esque genre. Fun adventure through what lerks beneath the La Brea Tar Pits. Great cast, with some real scream queens in it. Overall fun film, definitely recommend.

Tar means 'teer' in dutch, wich is almost another word for weak. And there you have it. I was tricked into watching this movie by the good reviews. Those good reviews however, were made by people who, almost without exception, joined imdb in october 2020. The same month this movie premiered. 1+1=2. I feel cheated. In short: Movie isn't that good. I've seen worse. But most of the movies I see are way better.
