There is no doubt that this film was not intended to be an Oscar winner, but for what it is, i think the film was a success. We all know going into the film that it's a farce comedy meant to take you out of the real world and make you laugh, and that's exactly what the film did for me. I throughly enjoyed clicking my brain off for the duration of the film and simply relaxing and enjoying the humor. Harland was great as always. Also, considering that I myself am a something less than proficient surfer who nonetheless tries real hard and truly enjoys the sport for what it is (even though more often than not i'm falling off of my board), i think it was great and fun to watch the underdogs do the same. When you're out there on the ocean it's hard not to take the guff it gives you and get back out on the board, so watching anything surf related is rewarding when you can relate to it and laugh at it all the same. If you're looking for some relaxation and laughs, I recommend this movie!

Well, if you're a dedicated surfer this isn't the movie for you, so when my brother rented it and I saw the silly cover I wasn't too wild. But this little movie grew on me as it went along. The old couple were a kick with their 60s hippy lifestyle and their obsessive love for each other. Gross at times the way they slobbered on each other but funny. I liked the main boy and his relationship with the goth girl. It was actually a sweet thing and he helped bring her out of her shell. Some of the comedy I didn't get perhaps because I'm not American, but the surf bum was a laugher. My brother told his chums about some of his crazy lines. All in all I liked the film because it was weird in good ways. I had never seen characters like the hippies. I had to forget about my love for surfing and the real sport, but I guess this is a comedy and it's about smiling. I smiled.

If any one feels like laughing and then leaving the theater and laughing on the way home talking about your favorite parts, then going to work trying to retell the surfer dudes jokes, then this is a must see.This movie was part of the watery fantasy worlds we were all involved in this summer. {rescue} was the main theme and i laugh so hard when i saw this movie i was rescued from my life. For those 2 hours. I was at the beach in Costa Rica with beautiful women and sexy monkeys (Maui hi Maui hi) and the surfing lessons right out of an old California dreamworld. i am the biggest dreamer there is and still i am so innocent to the troubles of everyday life. but what is life anyway "A BIG OCEAN AND WE ARE ALL JUST RIDING THE WAVES AS THE WAVES THEN WE FALL BACK INTO THE OCEAN WE ARE ALL ONE AND LOVE IS OUR COMMON GROUND (NOT WAR) AND THERE IS A lot OF LOVE IN SURF SCHOOL"don't miss this adventure and leave feeling good

I curse the day that IMDb didn't put an option to be able to vote 0 for a film. Even 1 is far too much of an accolade for this steaming pile of horse manure The film is just plain terrible its like they took gross out clichéd clips of jokes from other films and ran them one after another on here. The acting is terrible and the gratuitous shots of dumb bimbos got tedious and repetitive. Don't watch this, even if your into all the topless or bikini clad girls. The films is just plain pathetic. This film has a laughable plot, has no comedy, and bad acting, in fact its a travesty it was ever made. I though I would never say this, but I'd rather watch a Uwe Boll movies instead of this.

The writing is horrible - even for a campy teen movie, it plain sucked. The acting was very bad, the direction was bad. I feel bad for the cast who probably worked for peanuts, to be portrayed in such a crappy film. I'm glad I was able to see it for free. Don't waste your $3 to rent, OR buy this - wait till it comes on Spike TV at 3am, that way you can sleep through most of it. Diane and Taylor have the only bright spot in the movie as a goofy couple, but it's not enough to carry this film. Frankly the only thing remotely worth seeing is the beach and scenery of Costa Rica. I give it a 1 simply out of pity, and because a negative option wasn't available.

it's interesting to note that teens, college kids reviewing here - view movies - as nothing more than a 'bunch of stuck together bits'. minds seem unable to think in terms of a integrated 'whole'. cant believe i'm even taking time to write how excruciatingly awful unfunny boring clichéd this unspeakable thing was, the movie studio allowing him to make it must have been because they wanted to see him as the assistant manager at a taco bell not writing producing movies - that is the only possible explanation with something this bad one must not have many friends to clue you in before it too late 'hey this is bad bad bad' 7th graders on you tube have better writing skills. i'm demanding my rental fee be waived on principle when i sheepishly have to walk this turkey of all turkeys in. i wonder if class action suits might be possible against the studio and producer for foisting this on unsuspecting consumers as a 'comedy'. the supreme court surely would assess this as 'cruel and unusual punishment' even for multiple victim murders. studio dweebs out there - how in the name of creation does something this BAD get produced?! That is what i'd like to know. BTW, the manager at my Blockbuster consented to waive the rental charge..and added she's heard that from EVERYONE.

when it just feels good to watch a movie not so full of stuff about guns and death it was a thrill to watch. it was so much fun i love the lead actor and when he does the mel Gibson thing woo tell me more how can it be only one when is part 2 coming out what happen to the monkey its just somethings i got to know in my life where is the monkey man he was so cool and and his monkey girlfriend i think that when u find real love in your heart the sun never sets and you can dream of the great moments life will give us and when i started to want more they gave me more breast yes breast i love them and those girls was blessed and thats from god he likes beauty and laughter and thats surf school

I didn't think I'd like this movie. I'm not the American Pie kinda girl. We live in Phoenix and it was playing at the Harkins nearby and the guys looked hot. Well...now we're Surf School groupies. This is a really good movie. It's funny and it's got a good heart. Since we saw it we've been going online and checking out all the stuff on Ryan Carnes, who plays the bad surfer guy. He's a hottie from Desperate Housewives (he plays the gay son's lover). Ryan is sooooo hot in this movie. So is the main guy who was on that North Shore show. The main guy's body is pretty perfect. He plays a sweet jock. I liked this movie better than American Pie because it's not so sexual. It's got a nice love story. There's some singing too, which wasn't even creepy. The main girl has a great voice. Surf School is cool.
