This film has stuck with me since watching it 2 days ago. I keep thinking how unique it was and that if only other movies could take a lesson here. Super does not try and be Oscar worthy or try and appeal to the mass market like some other reviewers have marked it down for. For this reason Super most likely will not be for everyone, but this is its defining feature! Instead of which we get a movie devoted to its audience. It stays true to itself throughout, unpredictable and highly enjoyable, plus a great Cast.
If I was to recommend a film to a friend or family member, I would most likely select Kick Ass over this title. However If you have watched Kick Ass(If not I would guess this movie probably is not for you) and are left asking for more than I would say, you MUST watch this film!
Super does what other movies cannot do - brilliantly. 8/10.

Frank Darbo (played by Rann Wilson) is down on his luck. He has a low- paying, no-upward-mobility job and his wife just ran off with a drug dealer. He transforms himself into Crimson Bolt, a superhero, though he has no special powers. He soon gains a sidekick: Libby (Ellen Page).
Good, ish. Very funny at times, but also filled with very graphic violence, which distracts from this. Also, message is a bit garbled: so vigilatism is OK, even for queue jumping? Plot is full of holes, but I guess this is a comedy. Still, reasonably entertaining.
Rainn Wilson is OK in the lead role. Ellen Page makes the movie, however: very funny, beautifiul and intelligent.

Super's premise it too goofy to be taken seriously, yet it tries so hard to be serious. It's a disturbing dark comedy that isn't very funny. It has a few interesting moments, but not enough to save this sinking ship. It's a waste of talent, in my opinion.

Super lays its cards on the table very early on. The film is about a loser. A loser in life and love and it is going to become even worse.
Guided by some religious vision and a sense of right or wrong. Frank Darbo decides to become a Superhero and goes searching for trouble armed with a wrench.
It deals with similar terrain as the film Kick Ass, that movie was mainstream, bigger budget and aimed at a wider audience.
Super is independent, more quirky and also more bleaker.
It blends, comedy, drama, tragedy and action. It also defies expectations. It might not always sustain its aims.
I found it was one of the more interesting films that came out that year.

There are two things that I don't understand.
Could someone please explain to me how acting talent the likes of Liv Tyler, Kevin Bacon, Nathan Fillion and Ellen Page could possibly end up in a poorly made, low-budget Rainn Wilson "comedy"? I'm sorry, but I didn't laugh at all. No disrespect intended, but there's no real comedy to be had in just creating graphically over the top scenes. That's not humour, sorry folks.
The other thing I don't understand, however, is how this "comedy" then proceeds to generate an average review rating of 7.5 out of 10 here on IMDb, across almost a thousand voters. What are you people smoking? I've seen movies twice as good as this score an IMDb rating of only half that.
I'm into the superhero movie craze as much as anyone right now, but quite how anyone can consider this a good movie escapes me completely.

It's not a kids movie, let's get that out of the way... This movie is meant for adults and actually fills a very small niche in the "adult comic-book heroes" catagory... There's plenty of movies that have "comic-book heroes" but they are ALL rated GA or TA... but Super is rated MA, and that's what makes the film unique. The ONLY other "comic-book heroes" movie aimed at adults that comes to mind is Kick-Ass 1/2 (which is very good btw).
So here's the facts: Super fills a void which is only also inhabited by Kick-Ass 1/2, and Super is actually a pretty good movie too. It's not the best movie on earth, but it scratches a very specific adult itch... and that makes Super very valuable.

I had seen this movie on netfix for a long time and never gave it a chance, because i just assumed it was another Kick Ass. It is not it's nothing like it and I would say it is much better, although they are hard to come pair because they are so different. I would say this movie is more comparable to God Bless America, than to Kick Ass. This move was great had me laughing out and parts and unable to believe what I just saw at others, It is very dark a lot darker that I was expecting. The acting is superb they could not have made better choice. I also thought the store was amazing. If you like well written dark comedies and superhero movies this is a must see.

Really I wasn't too into this movie until Ellen Page's character got more involved. It was pretty good at first but the humor centers around the main character being so ridiculous. It's basically a plot we've seen many times. Main character is a loser that has to get some confidence and.... well fill in the blank.
Maybe there's something wrong with me, but I was cracking up at the extreme violence and psychotic laughter from Boltie. Boltie makes the movie into the great comedy that it is.
This movie is somewhat like Defendor, but it's definitely more violent and less appropriate for kids.

I hate how their isn't more recognition for this film
One of the more unique crime fighting/superhero flicks I've ever seen
A more mature psychotic version of kick ass if your into that sort of thing
