This film is everything that it promises to be, and in most cases it does a very good job. There is something familiar for all viewers, whether it be the "Fist Full of Dollars" references, or the "Django" references, or the Kurosawa inspired story. The script is weak at points, but it's a western, and writing a script for a crew that has one native English speaker (Quentin Tarantino) and having them pull it off as well as they did is a feat. I came out of the movie thinking that I could watch it again and like it. If you watched it and were disappointed, you probably watched it in the wrong mindset, it was a great ode to all men without names.

At every turn, another expected unexpected event springs fourth to entertain and amuse. For those of us who have seen Django, this movie will support your prejudices while allowing you to enjoy the fabulous cinematography, costumes, acting and scenery. The plot is barely enough to keep one interested although the movie, as a whole, is grossly entertaining. White vs Red, last man standing, evil vs evil with a tinge of good barely surfacing gives this movie a turn from the usual pap so often seen in cinema. Miike pulled out the stops for this one giving us enough blood and guts to wonder what was coming next while allowing for his own unique style to peek through. While not for everyone, this belongs in the midnight movie genre, suitable for those of us who enjoy something off of the beaten path.

Tarantino shows up for the first 5 minutes. I mean must I add more? This is a really fun watch, so watch it and see if you like it.

This movie has been a pivotal point in my life of recreational drug use. I now realize that I should double my dosage of adderall, and cut my pot smoking in half.
I would like to issue a warning to all pot smokers: this film is rated QT (Quentin Tarantino). Your brain may explode.
I must also give warning to non-pot smokers: leave the pot smokers alone. Go to bed now, because you will not get it. If you need something at the store, go now. If you want to watch, inhale some of this. That a girl. now kick back, relax, and enjoy the show.
I don't see nuthin' wrong, with a little.....

Delightful surprise. Makes the western genre feel exotic. One of my favorites

Obviously, this film is not for everyone. It is quite a postmodern movie with lots of background meanings. There are hidden connections not only to the movies "Sukiyaki" is a remake of, but also to the ancient Japanese "Heike Monogatari" (The Tale of the Heike) and even Shakespeare's "Henry VI". So, this work could be compared to the Japanese poetic genre "haikai no renga", а comic though quite emotional poem. This movie is not a deep philosophical opus, it is quite light and easy to watch, though it is for "those, who know". I am quite sure "Sukiyaki" will take a deserved place in the connoisseurs' movie library like some other "experimental" movies (i.e. "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead").

So silly, too silly. Why wasn't this shot in Japanese? Is the market just too thick to read subtitles. Unfortunately, there is a diaspora that truly believe Tarantino was sent from heaven to make films. He wasn't, and nor is his favourite Japanese director. Miike. QTs cameo in this dross might as well have included a Benny Hill impression. It merited it.
The film takes style over substance to a mumbling, camp Japonica level of pure cretinism. Bad haircuts taken from the 90's trendy Battle Royale edgy Japanese teen set. Oh dear. Had to mute after 20 mins, to avoid anymore Japlish. If it was in subtitles, it may just have been tolerable in a cartoonish, who really cares what I'm watching way. Silly, stupid and, let's face it, dull and boring.

This is what movies should be... A mix of whatever grasps the writers creative soul and splashes it on the backdrop in a red streak of blood. Seriously this movie is not for the average. It's very out there and has very heavy accents. If you don't mind such things and seek to find somethin which is a true art piece then you have found it. A perfect blend of the old and new, of east and west. A mashing of the old Kurosawa films with the spaghetti western remakes we in North America are so fond of. If you are a fan of Asian cinema you'll find that every character is so perfectly what you expect and then some (Im not gonna bother with spoilers cuz it plays it out for itself). I am so inspired by this film I'm gonna hunt down the original Django. I highly advise this for art house film lovers (as well as Tarantino fans). Best movie I've seen in a long while. Enjoy!

This movie was good, if you actually watched it instead of being the overzealous cliché'd college film student who doesn't know anything but to kiss his or her owns ass, then hail to ya, since your ego speaks louder then words, for one this flick believe it or not is a prequel, second its from takashi miike, the only guy who makes obscure flicks that sometimes are bad but hell you don't see much of his type of movies, if you hated this flick so much then go watch something from uwe boll iam sure you two could cosy up and degrade more soon to be cult classics, as for those of you who enjoyed this flick or curious to see it then don't let these film "cretiques" who judge flicks they haven't even seen just read about, and talk nothing but negative comments on how bad the flick is then why even comment on it, i mean really if you complain so much about how a film flows, then i dare ya, to make your own. thank you
