Definitely a Cult Classic! The spoof of the HOT 80's horror flicks were great! I definitely enjoyed the movie so much, I recorded it on VHS, bought the video, and won on E*bay the DVD! If U LOVE spoofs and Cult Classics, U will LOVE this one! Now, if ONLY I could find some horse head book ends! I will never look at egg plants, gum (non sugarless), paper clips, and rubber gloves the same! PS...Malford should definitely get that fixed! LOVE it! This is a movie ALL young teenagers should see before going to the Prom, The Big Dance, and now, the Big Funeral! LOL! How about the scene where...Oh wait, for those of U who haven't seen it, maybe I should not go on...just let U rent it for yourself! ANY good video store should carry it!

Part of me thinks that, if the ever-reputable Criterion Collection can put out a 2-disc special edition of crap like "Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas," they certainly could throw a bone to a sharp-witted parody like "Student Bodies," which nails the genre better than the 3 "Scream"s (which eventually went down the route of self-parody anyway) and the 4 (and counting) "Scary Movie"s. So why, then, has this cover-all-bases send-up been relegated to a word-of-mouth cult item since its 1981 release? Distributor Paramount, which hit paydirt with "Friday the 13th" the year before (and its sequels in the years following), likely saw "Bodies" as an opportunity to take a satirical jab at a genre that really only "began" with the breakout success of John Carpenter's "Halloween" (1978). The result? A film so ahead of its time that the audience didn't know what to make of it--relatively goreless and sex-free (our killer offs his teen victims BEFORE they get a chance to score), "Student Bodies" approaches an "Airplane!"-style level of pull-all-stops humor (albeit on a shoestring budget) that remains surprisingly tasteful, even in the midst of cracks about necrophilia and a farting corpse. The opening 15 minutes alone stuffs in references to "Halloween," "When a Stranger Calls," "The Prowler," and even Dario Argento's gialli (our killer's gloved hands figure heavily into the plot); the filmmakers superimpose a helpful "body count" tally plus other deliciously obvious mistakes the characters make (a door kept unlocked, for instance). I only have one major complaint about the film: even at a scant 86 minutes, it goes on for too long, halting to a crawl during a prom sequence that unwisely tries to build some suspense to accompany the humor (though I will give the climax credit for successfully managing to lampoon "Carrie," "Psycho," and even "The Tenant"). That being said, "Student Bodies" is a fine, funny horror lampoon, even more resonant in the fact that, despite its early placement in the slasher pantheon, it still manages to nail all the clichés that have afflicted the genre ever since.

Question:"Did you hang up?" Answer: "No I just said 'click'" This is just one of the hysterically funny lines in the very first horror-comedy ever made "Student Bodies"! This movie set the standard for future funny fear flicks like "Scary Movie" and it is hysterically funny. There are so many references to other movies in this one that at times it's hard to keep up. It's not just full of funny lines like "It was the killer, Chicken Lips!" but it is also full of funny visuals, like the teacher who erases the man's * from the drawing on the chalk board and says "This is totally ugly, unnecessary and gets in the way!" or the teacher who quiets her class by clapping her erasers together and creating a huge puff of chalk dust! The killer wears green rubber gloves and uses the most bizarre murder weapons in cinema history such as an eggplant, a paper clip and yes even a horse head bookend! In this film you will learn everything you ever wanted to know about horse head bookends! This is a must-see horror comedy that will have you laughing till you pee yourself!

Who would had ever known that this obscure little unknown horror comedy would be such a fun one to watch! This is a real enjoyable horror spoof, from the period before spoofs even became popular. The movie is so silly with its comedy that it becomes really hilarious to watch in parts. The movie is filled with some crazy but real likable characters and some really well written comical dialog, which perhaps made me laugh the most. It's strange watching this obviously low budget production from Paramount Pictures, with obviously not the most talented or experienced people involved, both in front as well as behind the camera. It actually turned out that the reason why this movie got made in the first place was because that at the time there was a writer's strike in Hollywood (yes, it's not just something of the present) and in order to still release some movies and gain some money, Paramount Pictures funded a couple of non-union films, of which this was one. So under any other normal circumstances this movie would had probably never been made. It really looks and feels like an amateur made film but this is obviously also part of the reason why this movie has grown into becoming such a cult-classic in certain circles over the years. It's a real silly comedy, made in the same style as some present day popular genre comedies. So yes in a way "Student Bodies" seems really ahead of its time. The movie features mostly simple humor to enjoy and the movie obviously isn't one to take serious in any way. The movie spoofs some horror classics in parts but "Student Bodies" can still mostly seen as an original production with a story of its own. Well story...it's not like it's anything too great written. The movie is kept simple at all times. Unfortunately the movie sort of starts 'loosing it' toward the end. It's a real shame, since to me it prevented this movie from being a true 'must-see' and it made it quite embarrassingly bad to watch when the story seems to be suddenly all over the place. The movie is filled with some crazy and really funny characters but of course the one that really stands out is Malvert the janitor, played by a guy only known as The Stick. It's an amazingly odd man who is very tall and a little over one hundred pounds, so you can imaging a bit how he looks like. He's incredibly sluggish and moves around like he's made out of elastic and has no bones in his body. No one knows who this guy is, or what is real name is or what he's doing this present day and time. The rest of the actors are also all big unknowns, with the exception of Richard Belzer, although he is never shown on screen, at least not his face (he plays the killer, known as The Breather, for the obvious reasons). He's a real cult actor due to his personality and the knowledge of his presence alone in this movie is already amusing. Despite not being brilliant I can still really recommend this movie and can insure you that it's a real hilarious one in a lot of parts. 7/10 http://bobafett1138.blogspot.com/

At Lamab High School, a vicious killer known as 'The Breather' is attacking young couples during sex. Although there are several shady characters at the school, all of whom could possibly be the killer, it is virginal student Toby (Kristen Riter) who becomes the prime suspect: according to the school psychiatrist, her traumatic childhood and subsequent repressed sexuality makes her the student 'most likely to kill'. The Wayans brothers made a mint out of their Scary Movie series, but it was Student Bodies—made almost twenty years before Keenen Ivory, Marlon and Shawn claimed the idea as their own—that first set the extremely low standard for desperately unfunny slasher spoofs. In fact, by comparison, Scary Movie looks like a work of genius. 86 minutes of completely puerile garbage, Student Bodies takes a promising concept and flushes it straight down the pan: the dreadful script is about as funny as a triple hernia, with several of the lamest 'jokes' repeated ad nauseum; the cast consists primarily of untalented unknowns with zero flair for comedy; and the direction, by Mickey Rose, is clumsy and predictable (strangely enough, Rose was happy to keep his name on the credits, and it was producer Michael Ritchie who wisely used the pseudonym 'Alan Smithee' in an effort to distance himself from the film). Those with a taste for the truly bizarre will probably get a kick out of 'The Stick', who plays Malvert, the school's gangly double-jointed janitor, and the sight of Riter in a tight, tarty 'Olivia-Newton-John-in-Grease' style prom outfit should appeal to most blokes (she's no Anna Faris, but she still looks pretty hot in that get-up), but with no gore, no nudity, and more importantly, absolutely no laughs, Student Bodies must go down as one of the weakest horror/comedies in the history of the genre.
