Okay, first off, this isn't a slowly flowing one as one would assume concerning the beginning. This film is exciting all the way through, although it lacks some more nerve wrecking scenes. Husband and wife having trouble getting over the death of their child. Oh, cliché, innit? Nope. Completely different from what you would expect. Masked robbers break into the house and try to kill the remnants of the family... Seen it, haven't you? Nope. Still entertaining, it can give more than an ordinary horror film. It has some jump-scares, but it doesn't give you as many goosebumps as some other vague lookalikes, but it is definitely better without it. It is a drama. If you're looking for butchery and blood, go and watch Wrong Turn. The plot twist at the end is refreshing, really great, I hope that they considered making a sequel out of it. I would be stoked if there would be a second film. Give it a go.

A couple who had recently lost a son finds themselves targeted by a group of unknown criminals who appear to be after not only them, but a girl that they saved by letting into their house after her car breaks down earlier. This reasonably well-acted tense horror film kept my interest through most of it's run time. I found myself enjoying it more than i expected to, everything was going well enough, But then the ending rears its ugly head and completely obliterates what good will I had for the film. Because of this I can't really bring myself to recommend it to anyone save the least discerning horror-phile amongst you. My Grade: D+

Awhile ago I realized that pouring through every movie I come across wasn't working for me. I was watching so much crap and turning most of it off and it was ruining one of my favourite hobbies. So I swore I wouldn't watch anymore obviously bad, unknown horror films. But Static read well so I decided to break my own rule. Thank goodness!! This was a total surprise!! It reminded me of The Strangers mixed with a little Stephen King and it was a solid thriller that was one of the better movies I have seen in the last couple of weeks. The film just does a fantastic job of getting under your skin and really creeping you out. Yes, it is probably a little bit predictable and has that air of the heroes going this way when they should go that but horror is a genre of predictability and there are few unique ideas left. Regardless, if you love horror then you love the tried and true recipe and this film works extremely well. In some respects I could have done without the ending (something other IMDb reviewers are complaining about) but it also worked well and I didn't see it coming, however, we have seen this ending time and time again and has sort of played out its shock value. But ignore that or accept it because it isn't a bad ending and it doesn't take away from the edge of your seat thrills leading up to it. Since his run on the hit show Heroes Milo Ventimiglia has done some bizarre indie flicks. I wasn't sure if this would be a bizarre turn for him but he is very good as the grieving father and husband who is also a writer trying to protect his wife. His character is decently developed and he makes a good lead for the film. He felt like a Stephen King character (and that is by no means a bad thing) and he carried it well. His wife is played by Sarah Shahi who also does a great job as the tortured mother dealing with the loss of their son. You will feel her emotions and her terror and she makes a decent scream queen. The chemistry between them is very good and convincing and both of them carry the film very well. Sarah Paxton (who I enjoy but she doesn't do a lot) has a mostly small role as the mysterious girl who ends up on their doorstep. She is very good and you immediately get a sense there is more to her and what she is doing there. Her character was used sparingly which made her more mysterious and added to the tension of the film. Newcomer Todd Levin flies in the face of my cardinal rule of not directing and writing your own material because he is a co-writer and directs this and I would guess that we will absolutely be seeing more from him very soon. He has a style and he does a lot with what was likely a very low budget. He uses the atmosphere, the isolated home, the countryside to instill a feeling of being trapped and hunted. There are even some genuinely real jump moments in the movie and some truly terrifying scenes involving our intruders in gas masks which made for some intense moments. The film's pacing was quite good especially for an indie movie although some of the more emotional scenes got almost over-dramatic. I imagine its hard not to overact when you're the focus of the film and there isn't a lot of special effects to carry the story. Still, a first rate indie thriller that absolutely should be checked out. I noticed this is also being released in 3D-Blu Ray and I hate 3D enough already but there is NOTHING in this movie that would be made better by 3D. I can't imagine why they would ever do that. But if it makes more people watch it than bonus to them. Do yourself a favour and check it out!! 8.5/10

When you look into horror, found footage, suspense or supernatural genre the list is long around the world there are many films based on concepts we have heard & watched on our screens so what makes this film static different well i have a different opinion on that. I guarantee that after watching this film you will feel felt different i did & anyone else who will see this will agree that these not so famous films are in fact much better & greater then those so called big budget movies Hollywood waste the money on those usual scream & shriek with a big action star in them like Bruce Willis or a female damsel in distress along with a annoying kid we have seen a billion times before now those large studios ran out of scripts so they do either a reboot, remake or keep rehashing the same idea on repeat mode why just because for some cash not for the sake of good story or execution of the project. A lot of people & critics didn't get this film at all because either they didn't pay attention or are not used to long dialog based & deep suspense atmospheric films. Static 2012 looks like no other film in the starting things go crazy the couple is in trouble no one to help etc but the climax will stun you i mean isn't it crazy that you are watching a completely predictable movie that even a kid can tell what will happen in next scene & suddenly the genre switches on from thriller to supernatural mode. The Plot:a couple lives in a house far away from the city they have lost their child one night a visitor Rachel knocks on their door saying some men are out there in gas masks & they are coming this way but soon the men with gas masks enter the house they drag Rachel away while the couple fear & hide thinking what will happen to them. From start to near last 8 minutes before the ending the film is hide & seek between the couple & the men in masks, the couple actually figures it out that why these people entered their house as they have located their safe house from which the gang was operating. The good part starts when the dialog between Jonathan Dade & his wife Addie Dade starts again after a long silence they start talking about their dead son they start to blame each other for his death. The character of Rachel is connect to this because she understood them well then the couple themselves,i have to give a spoiler here i usually don;t give one in my reviews but here it's a exception i believe it is need because i don't want anyone to miss out on this hidden masterpiece. The couple are ghosts & those gang members are paranormal investigators lead by Rachel who successfully confront the ghost couple at their house only make them realize that the death of their son was a mistake so they can forgive each other & move on from this world to eternal life heaven in peace. Why did i tell the whole story is because it is simply well told film with a powerful based script & narrative filled with great acting display by everyone big stars like Sara Paxton & Sarah Shahi did a wonderful job Milo Ventimiglia as the male lead actor was amazing. Just imagine if John Woo made a horror or supernatural film it would have been like this all go slow in the start in the middle things don't seem to make sense but in the end its awesomeness this is what static is all about,i love every film with Sara Paxton in it i became a long hardcore fan of her since Aquamarine i have to say this lady is very talented & chooses great scripts regards to her from a Pakistani fan. Overall forget the haters & critics Static 2012 is a heavily underrated film filled with surprises at every moment i loved it hats off to the director & whole team for making this low budget gem of a film my rating is 8/10:Highly Recommended

All I knew about "Static" prior to sitting down to watch it was that it was a horror movie. I didn't know who was starring in it, nor did I know what the plot of the movie was. A life-long fan of the horror genre, I needed little encouragement to sit down to watch "Static". This was one of the most dull, boring and slow paced movies that I have seen in a long, long time. Actually, the storyline was so unfathomably boring and pointless that it was a serious struggle to keep my attention span on the movie. I was tempted to give up numerous times along the way. And at the 51 minute marker into the movie, then I had enough and tossed the towel in the ring. The movie was so pointless and completely boring; a waste of time actually comes to mind if having to describe it. So very little happened throughout the 51 minutes of the ordeal that I managed to sit through. The characters in "Static" were every bit as the title of the movie; static. They were lacking depth and proper personalities. And it was characters that were generic and cardboard cut-outs essentially, and you just don't connect with the characters at any time throughout the course of the movie. It should be said that the acting performances were actually adequate, although the actors and actresses had nothing, absolutely nothing to work with in terms of storyline, script and direction. Along with a very ridiculous story, then the bogeymen that made their appearances in the house were just laughable and proved to be as far from scary or menacing as they could have been. So it just didn't work for setting the mood of the movie. You just couldn't take them seriously. I have no intention of returning to finish watching "Static", because it just isn't worth the time or effort. Actually, watching actual static on the screen might have proved to be more entertaining that what director Todd Levin presented with this 2012 horror movie.

I won't say this is completely awful, as the acting is somewhat decent, but that's about it. A couple have lost their son. A young woman knocks at their door, followed by sinister people wearing strange gas masks. The motives of those folks remain unclear right till the end, when the movie makers cheat their audience with the most clichéd cheat of a plot-twist ever. Is that a spoiler now? I'm not sure. I guess, to those who know what I'm talking about, it won't be a secret at about ten minutes into the movie, anyway. On top of all that, look at the couple's last name. Bruhahaha. See where this is going? Yes, you guessed right. Extremely popular movies with great casts have succeeded in pulling this off, with the greatest names in the business attached to them. In comparison, this feels like the ambitious work of film students in their first semester. It's like they just haven't seen enough movies yet to know that every fan of the horror genre will see right through it. Then there's the question of why the husband needed to be a writer, why the invaders had to wear gas masks, and why they put a fracking chandelier up in the woods. Unresolved subplots - bad writing. The only reason I watched it till the end, only skipping a third of it along the way, was because I still hoped - against my own judgment - that it might turn out better this time. That, and I was sick in bed and had nothing else to do anyway.

I am a huge fan of Sara Paxton and that's pretty much the only reason why a watched STATIC. I hate to say it, but this movie is lame. It's not suspenseful and scary the way a mystery thriller should be. It's more like a drama with some light thriller elements. Why this movie is tagged "horror" on IMDb is beyond me. Also, the movie poster is VERY misleading. I expected something completely different judging from that poster. Something like RAMPAGE (2009) or THE TALL MAN (2012) or whatever. Also, Sara Paxton only has a small amount of screen time, which is a shame because she is a great actress when given something to work with. Anyways, the plot of STATIC is quickly told: Jonathan Dade (Milo Ventimiglia), a novelist, and his wife Addie (Sarah Shahi) live in a large house in the middle of nowhere. We soon learn that their three-year-old son died in an accident some time ago and that they are having a hard time to forgive themselves and move on. One night, a strange woman named Rachel (Sara Paxton) comes knocking on their front door saying that her car broke down and that she was being followed by strange figures wearing gas masks. Jonathan and Addie are so kind to take her in for the night. Some time later, intruders come to the house and take Rachel away. Then they come after Jonathan and Addie... The plot doesn't offer much. For the better part of an hour, you basically see Jonathan and Addie fleeing from largely invisible intruders wearing freaky gas masks and hoodies. The couple run from one room of their house to the other, hear some noises, argue a bit, then go to the next room and do the same. Then they leave the house, run into the garden, then into the garage, then into the forest, and back to the house again. During all that running, they hardly make any contact with their intruders. You can figure that it gets boring pretty soon. The movie only gets relatively interesting about ten minutes before the credits start rolling. When it is revealed at the end that Jonathan and Addie are ghosts, my initial thought was that we have seen endings like that so many times since THE SIXTH SENSE (1999), it's not really original anymore. The good twist comes a little bit later when you realize that Rachel and her crew are something like ghost hunters who clean haunted houses from spirits that won't leave. That is a pretty clever ending, I give the movie that, but other than the enjoyable ending, STATIC just doesn't offer much. I'm sorry to say.

After watching the trailer for this film I can't say I was super excited to see it. It looked very predictable and very similar to many other films. But I decided to give it a shot anyways and I am very happy that I did. The film doesn't exactly move at the fastest pace ever, but that seemed to work perfectly here. The story was set up nicely and some of the parts that were a little slow actually help to develop the characters a lot. I honestly do not a have a whole bunch to say about this film, its hard to say really anything without spoiling it. All I can say is that its very much worth watching and pretty damn original. 8/10

This title was a great all-around title. The acting was good. Direction was good. Sound was absolutely phenomenal listening in 7.1, possibly the best mixing I've ever heard. Loved the sound for SURE. Cinematography was great. Everything else was 7/10 or better including casting etc. The plot was highly original and refreshing. I found the pacing and ending to be perfect despite what a few other reviewers thought. The thing I thought was fantastic was that we've seen movies like this so many times, but not from the perspective of the paranormal entities. The fact that it is not revealed until the end makes it feel like the masked men/women are the paranormal entities when in reality it's the other way around. I thought that flipping the perspectives like that was what made this movie so brilliant and created the illusion of originality and freshness. I'd like to see this concept applied to other genres/types of films/plots. I think the results could be absolutely brilliant in just a few generic plots I can think of off the top of my head. Well, needless to say I enjoyed this film a lot. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good thriller/sci-fi/paranormal flick. J
